maryland corrections officials. we are still waiting to hear back from them. right now, we are at a staging area in riverdale. for hours, we have been following this caravan of maryland state police and prince george's county officials. local, state, and federal officials searching for this man. his name is james alexander noris junior -- norris, jr. years been in trouble for , decades with the law. he pleaded guilty to rape and assault. authorities say, at one point, he was a prison inmate. in 2010, he was guilty for not registering as a sex offender. officials say he is now assigned to a state hospital. this afternoon, he walked away during a court-ordered home visit in nearby hypo.

-- hyattsville. we tracked down authorities and saw them near a walmart searching for him. we followed the caravan and the bloodhound four hours -- for hours. at this point, they have not found noris -- norris. they believe he could be dangerous and if you spot him, you are urged to call 911 immediately. jonathan: thanks. a big day tomorrow for one of d. c.'s smallest new additions, this adorable panda cub. it still needs to get some hair. we will find out whether or not this will fellow is a boy or a girl. the mother gave birth to twins and the smaller cub died yesterday. the surviving cub is in very good physical health. if you are away from your tv, stick with abc 7.

this came hours after muriel bowser announced a new plan to combat violence in the district. more on the shooting and why the mayor's new plan has people protesting. she had a hard time announcing that plan today. timee did have a very hard getting all the details out. police are still hunting for the suspect in that shooting. earlier today, a brazen gunbattle on the streets of d.c. all of this coming the same day the mayor tried to roll out a new plan to fight crime. helicopter overhead, police officers and k-9 units on the ground, searching for a shooter. gunfire erupted around 3:00 p.m., leaving one man wounded. it happened near the archdiocese. full in this quiet community just do not know what to make of it.

as loved ones prepared to lay them to rest, flags are flying half-staff. all departments have lower their flags in honor of those three lines lost -- lives lost. the three victims were all part of a specially trained unit called the hotshots. they were sent in first to assess the size and smoke of the wildfire and the fire turned on them. right now, people in south florida are getting ready from -- for a possible hit from a tropical storm. people spent the day stocking up on food and whatever supplies they could get their hands on. erika could reach florida by monday. the storm is now in the caribbean. four people have been killed there. 20 others are missing. a storm like that is heading towards the florida area, not messing around. reports have it

the brooklyn area, you are looking at about 55 degrees. an update on tropical storm erika, continuing its movement at 15 miles per hour. 58 up to -- gusts up to miles per hour. this is the cone of uncertainty, where it might make landfall. it could arrive on the coast of eastern florida and sway up a little bit towards the north and have an impact on our area late next week. a lot can change between now and then. here we are thursday night and this is not until monday evening. so a good ways to go. we have seen this track further and further to the east. that could -- excuse me, towards the west. that could continue as we head towards the next couple of days. the futurecast shows a nice day for tomorrow.
