will be able to be married today. more from abc's marcy gonzales. >> reporter: cheering, and outrage outside of this federal courthouse in kentucky. strong reactions to a judge finding a county clerk in contempt of court. putting her behind bars for this. >> we're not issuing marriage licenses. you can appeal. >> since the supreme court's june ruling in support of same sex marriage, kim davis has repeatedly turned away gay couples refusing to issue any marriage licenses testifying that her conscience will not allow it. >> under whose authority are you not issuing licenses. >> god's authority. >> reporter: davis who has been married four times maintained in court while her past may not be perfect, she is entitled to her religious freedom. >> kim davis is prepared for consequences because the other consequences she would not want

to risk, and that is being unfaithful to god. >> the aclu filed the motion saying while she has a right to her religious beliefs she is obligated to follow the law, the group requiring her pay a fine but the judge taking it further, ordering her to stay in federal custody till she agrees to issue marriage licenses. >> we do not want to see that. we're sad it came to it, and again, the judge did his job by following laws. >> reporter: the judge explaining his belief that this is the only way to make sure davis complies. her legal team responding to the ruling saying this is not the america the founders envisioned. marcy gonzales, abc news, new york. marcy, thank you. police are searching for the suspect in a shooting at sacramento city college that left one student dead. the two other victims are also students, one is in critical condition. police say four people were arguing and one of them pulled out a gun and shot the others. at one point, the college was on

lockdown. but it's all clear now. it's unknown if the shooter is also a student at the school. prosecutors in south carolina say they'll seek the death penalty for the suspect in the charleston church shootings. dylan roof faces nine counts of murder in state court and charged with federal hate crimes. in recommending the death penalty, the prosecutor said some krimts are so heinous they require the most serious punishment the state can give. >> services will be held monday for the illinois police lieutenant found shot to death. investigate rds say video from a homeowner's security system could provide crucial clues what happened to the officer. gio benitez reports. >> detectives following new leads in the dramatic search for the three men police believe killed lieutenant joe gliniewicz saying they've obtained crucial new video. >> we have retrieved as late at last night what we believe to be some significant video. >> reporter: that video coming from a house near the area where the 52-year-old officer was shot

and found dead. the lieutenant was shot way down there, and in his last recorded call, he said he was chasing two white men and one black man. they could he have come running across this field over these railroad tracks and right into the view of a home cam la right in this neighborhood. >> there is a good probability they are still somewhere in the area. tensions are high here. a woman made a false report she saw two men running. helicopters were launched and 140 officers scoured the area. this as gliniewicz's widow delivers an emotional message to the community. >> joe was my best friend and my world, my hero. he will truly be missed by all of us. >> reporter: gio benitez, abc news, fofl lake, illinois. >> one attack on a police officer near boston turned out to be a hoax. the officer himself accused of making the thing up. the 24-year-old rookie in massachusetts claimed a gunman fired shots into his cruiser before it crashed and burst into flames.

police say the officer fired into his own car. the incident triggered a manhunt, shut down schools, put the town on lock down. he has been fired and facing criminal charges. it's official. donald trump promised not to run as a third party candidate. in new york on thursday, amid much fanfare, the billionaire signed a loitty pledge. during the first debate, trump was the only candidate not to make the pledge. the front-runner now says he will support whoever wins the nomination. >> so i will be totally pledging my allegiance to the republican party and the conservative principles for which it stands and we will go out and we will fight hard and we will win. later in the day, trump stumbled through an interview with a conservative talk show host when asked about the qods force in iran, he mistook them for the krufrds and didn't seem to know the major differences between hamas and hezbollah.
