the new season of sesame street. we'll have what they're having on this friday, september 4th. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> sesame street characters the same again. >> talking about when "harry met sally." >> that's going to be interesting. coming up later. that's going to be good too. we begin with the county clerk in kentucky now standing her ground against same-sex marriage from behind bars. >> kim davis has been jailed indefinitely for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. the judge offered to release her if she promised not to interfere as licensed are issued today, but she opted to stay in jail. here's more from abc's alex perez. >> reporter: the showdown ending in jail. the county clerk led away, cheers and boos from the crowd. at issue, kim davis' refusal to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, insisting in testimony, quote, my conscience will not allow me. >> she's been ordered to stay there until she's willing to change her mind, until she's willing to change her conscience

about what that belief is. >> reporter: davis can resign, but if she doesn't and refuses to comply, the federal judge who ruled her in contempt can keep her in custody as long as she stands her ground. the controversial clerk at odds with the june supreme court ruling making marriage a right nationwide. >> under whose authority? >> under god's authority. i simply told you all i'm willing to face my consequences as you all will face your consequences when it comes time for judgment. >> we don't have consequences. i don't believe -- >> not everybody believes what you believe. >> that's your choice. >> reporter: that couple among those suing the clerk. >> she is not above the law. that's where we are. >> reporter: but the judge saying davis' good faith belief is simply not a viable defense. >> if you can't do your job, resign. >> reporter: others rallying behind davis. >> today we come to stand for god and support our county clerk. >> reporter: the flash point issue reverberating on the campaign trail. several g.o.p. candidates speaking out. >> i think it's absurd to put

someone in jail for exercising their religious liberty. >> reporter: former governor mike huckabee tweeting we must end the criminalization of christianity. #i'm with kim. in court, five of six deputy clerks agreed to comply with the law and could begin issuing marriage licenses as early as friday. alex perez, abc news, ashland, kentucky. >> meanwhile, investigators outside chicago are loping a videotape from a homeowner's security an system will provide clues in the shooting of a veteran police officer, charles gliniewicz. a massive manhunt turned up nothing so far. police recovered a gun at the scene but won't say whether it was the officer's weapon. >> two men are dead after a small plane crashed on the suburban southern california driveway. one was a flight instructor. the other a student pilot. two vehicles in the driveway and the roof of the house next door damaged. the house is on the takeoff route from a nearby small airport. the flight school says it has never had an accident in almost 50 years of operation.

vice president joe biden summed up his thinking on a presidential run during a q & a session in atlanta last night saying, "the honest to god answer is, i just don't know." he's concerned if he and his family can handle a run. biden says he's still weighing whether they have the emotional energy for another campaign especially after deing with the death of their son beau. donald trump appeared to have what the "new york times" is describing as his sarah palin moment during an interview. among the gaffes he seemed not to know the major differences between hamas and hezbollah. earlier in the day amid much fanfare he signed a loyalty pledge. abc's tom llamas has more. >> i have signed the pledge. >> reporter: donald trump saying what so many republican leaders wanted to hear. >> i will be totally pledging my allegiance to the republican party and the conservative principles for which it stands. >> reporter: gop chairman reince

priebus ducking into trump tower. no other candidate getting this type of personal attention. rival jeb bush mocking the whole affair tweeting out this photo, voted republican since 1972, and on the trail in new hampshire needling trump by speaking spanish. >> so here i am. a candidate for president of the united states, believing we should campaign with our arms wide open. >> reporter: trump saying bush should set an example by speaking english. >> can you clarify your comments, what you said about jeb bush? >> well, i think that when you get right down to it we're a nation that speaks english and i think while we're in this nation we should be speaking english. >> reporter: jeb bush says trump will tear the party apart. a new poll shows trump stronger than ever with 30% of the vote. tom llamas, abc news, new york. refugees from the middle east are still streaming into hungary this morning hoping to make their way into western europe.

after a two-day standoff at the main rail station in budapest, hundreds were allowed to board trains heading to refugee camps. there's sharp disagreement among european leaders how to handle the growing crisis. president obama is playing host today to king salman of saudi arabia hoping to offer reassurances about the nuclear deal with iran. the meeting comes as the pentagon finalizes a $1 billion arms agreement with the saudis for their fight against the islamic state in yemen but the deal would require congressional approval. if you're taking the train this labor day weekend, expect to see beefed up security. the more visible security follows last month's faced terror attack on a train. homeland security chief jeh johnson says operation rail safe has been around for years. johnson says the nation's trains are safe and in fact, he takes amtrak home to new jersey often. that security in train stations is being handled by the tsa. the agency is under fire for airport screeners who are groping passengers. abc's david kerley asked the head of the tsa, does the agency need to do a better job of

screening itself. >> reporter: in a video, a female officer on scene manipulates a scanning machine so that travelers a male tsa officer found attractive would be sent to him. he's seen inappropriately according to the tsa patting down male passengers at least 10 cases over several months. the two denver officers fired in march but not prosecuted. just last week a tsa supervisor at laguardia airport alledgedly fondles a young woman, that officer also fired also facing charges. all leading some to wonder if it sa may have to examine the way it screens screeners. the head of the tsa says employees are held to the highest standards. >> reporter: do these cases suggest you have to change the way you screen to hire officers? >> i think what it suggests is that occasionally you have some bad apples in your employment. >> reporter: it's not just tsa officers. look at this in san francisco. that is a civilian wearing a blue shirt posing as a security officer calling over two

different women taking them into a small room for patdowns. 12 minutes go by. finally one of the real officers from the private security company knocks on the door. the man is arrested. but he too is never prosecuted because neither of the women filed reports. that company covenant says it the tsa and san francisco airport took corrective action. more broadly the tsa is saying zero tolerance and more training should cut the number of incidents. david kerley, reagan washington airport. bizarre interruption of a u.s. open tennis match in new york. a drone crashed into seats and broke into pieces upon landing. the match was briefly stopped as police examined the drone. one of the players says she heard the drone fly by. wasn't sure what it was. no one was injured. police are sti investigating. it was truly frightening a scene here as jack sock collapsed during the fourth set of his match. witnesses say his eyes rolled back in his head.

finally got going, well, not too many offensive fireworks. new england driving for the go ahead touch down but as you saw he was sacked and they lost. neither team ended up scoring. giants win, 12-9. it's now all systems go for the patriots to open defense of their super bowl title with brady in the lineup. the nfl is appealing yesterday's ruling but isn't seeking an emergency stay. >> that means that brady can play while the appeals process moves forward. abc's ryan smith has covered the deflategate story from the start. >> reporter: superstar quarterback tom brady back in the game. the super bowl winner's four-game suspension overturned, thrown out by a federal judge a week before the new england patriots' first regular season game. judge richard berman took aim at the way the nfl handled the controversy, saying commissioner roger goodell denied the star requested access to key files and witnesses and saying the quarterback didn't have notice of his potential punishment for his alleged role in deflate-gate.

but the judge, not resolving one critical aspect of deflate-gate, not addressing whether brady actually knew about or encouraged football tampering. >> if you're a patriots fan, you love brady and you're cheering today. if you're around the rest of the country, you're wondering, hey, did a cheater just get away with this >> reporter: the reactions pouring in. teammate rob gronkowski tweeting, "let's go!" brady's players union claiming victory, saying goodell doesn't have the authority to be unfair, arbitrary and misleading. but the nfl appealing to protect the integrity of the game. the nfl's appeal won't stop him from playing in their first regular season game right here this time next week. ryan smith, abc news, foxborough, massachusetts. >> and you were very bold. you put brady in your fantasy football picks. >> yeah. because even at the worst, he would still be able to play the other 12 games even if the suspension was upheld. he's so valuable, it would still have been worth it.
