hospital after a crash involving a ride-on bus and s.u.v. in montgomery county. the vehicles hit each other at old town road near the beltway at 9:00 this morning. three people were taken to the hospital. at least one had serious injuries. all of the lanes as far as traffic are now reopened. we are still waiting for word to what happened to the crane working along interstate 395 in the district. our cameras caught the video. it didn't go all the over but quite a bit. near the massachusetts avenue exit this morning. we will let you know as soon as we learn the new information agent what would ald how they got it back up. alison: today marks one year since we first learned that two children in montgomery county were missing. >> it has been one year since sarah and jacob vanished from the home. the mother kathryn has been implicated with the kids' disappearance. to date she has refused to tell investigators what she allegedly did with the children. well, today, family members held a press conference where

they told us what has the most -- has them the most frustrated. they told us about the upcoming search to find the children. join us for abc7 news at 5:00 and 6:00. jonathan: new develop in the the wrongful death of freddie gray. the family will get $6.5 million from the city of baltimore. this has followed weeks of negotiation and still has to be approved by the board of estimates. the six police officers will be tried separately for the april 12 arrest. we have more on the settlement at 5:00. alison: the three teenagers accused of killing a fourth at a bus stop last friday were in court today. northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg was in the courtroom for today's hearing. jeff: following the murder of 17-year-old danny last friday morning in sterling, loudoun county investigators work deep in the might to find the three men they say are responsible for the crime. in court today, 20-year-old henry vasquez and 18-year-old

juan selia. both arraigned on charges of being accessories to the killing. and with possession of a firearm while in the country illegally. also facing a judge this morning is a 17-year-old male, juvenile whose name is not released. accused of pulling the trigger. charged with second-degree murder. prosecutors plan to try the teen as an adult. authorities say the sophomore at park view high was shot twice in the back while on his way to a school bus stop near his home. he later died at inova fairfax hospital. the victim and the suspects all knew one another. while the motive is still unclear they are looking into whether the shooting was gang-related. is this gang-related, sir? >> no, no. jeff: definitively you're saying it's not? this man who did not want to give his name but has known juan for years says his friend is innocent. >> they arrested the wrong people. jeff: the exception of a few questions for the judge neither of the suspects had much to say in court today.

is that a dramatic start to day. 220 students forced to evacuate the dorm room because of the fire. roof deck at the fullbright residence hall on h street northwest went up in names. nobody was hurt. they quickly put the fire out. they don't know what caused it. today was a clean sweep for kids heading back to school in our area. alison: but as sam sweeney reports students in one county were able to sleep later. sam: good an. for the first time ever the home room bell at the hayfield secondary school rang later than before. similar story at public high schools across fairfax county.

the first bus didn't start dropping them off at 2:45 in the morning, the latest in school history. >> i'm excited about the idea. a brand new idea. sam: more than 188,000 student attend the school. the tenth largest in the nation. 57,000 of its high school students will get a little more sleep. the school start times have been pushed back. last year the school board voted to start the high schools an hour later. studies show adolescents do better with more sleep. administrators feel like it will make all the difference. >> they will be ready to learn. school started at 7:20, it was more difficult for the students. particularly the high school students. sam: fairfax county has 1,500 school buses, many will be on the road tonight. so if you're coming home from

increased traffic in the morning and the afternoon at fairfax county arlington. so just be very aware. a lot of kids walking around and parents, too. a few issues in the d.c. area. crash k street northwest at vermont avenue. another accident to watch out for. this is in logan circle. 14th street northwest at rigs road. look outside and show what we have on the capital beltway. heavy traffic on both the inner and the outer loop. but not so much you see it here on the outer loop. just the inner loop approaching the american legion bridge. the issue is an accident closer to river road. the crash first is the outer loop. before river road. inner loop we are hearing about one closer to old george town road. something to keep in mind and watch out for. reminder for you if you travel metro, they are doing the

richmond. 97 pretty good for washington this time of the year. not good in a good sense. it's uncomfortable. tomorrow is similar but we cool off for the middle of the week. we see the temperatures fall. after sunset we drop in 70's. most area stays in the 70's overnight. it will be clear overhead and muggy. waiting for high pressure to allow a cold front to approach. high will give us another hot and humid day. it could give us afternoon or evening showers. the better chances will come on thursday when the cold front comes through. 80% of rain by then. more comfortable weather on friday. future cast, take you through to show you the rainmaking inroads tomorrow afternoon. especially as we get through the day on thursday is when we will deal with the showers and the thunderstorms with the passage of the cold front. we will see the improvement of the weather conditions through friday. weekend is going to be cooler. that much we are sure of.

hour ago as kenneth moton reports her release came on the same day that republican presidential hopefuls mike huckabee and ted cruz met with her in jail and held a rally with her supporters. >> gay marriage versus religious freedom. embattled kentucky clerk kim davis is a free woman. >> she is released today. we are rejoicing in her release. but the court order did not resolve the underlying issue. reporter: a judgment released her right before presidential candidate mike huckabee and the conservative liberty counsel was set to rach up the fight and hold a ral hi for davis -- rally for davis. she sent six days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples because of the religious of her beliefs. >> the could remember of -- the courage of her conviction was more important than her freedom. >> it sparked debates, rallies

supporting her and protest at the home of judge that helder in in contempt. davis' attorney demanded the kentucky governor act to free the fellow democrat. but the governor said it was up to the courts. >> we got it! reporter: a judge decided tuesday since they are issuing marriage license they are believing that the county clerk office is continuing the duty. the judge says she -- if she interferes with the issuing of marriage license she could be back in jail. jonathan: pope francis lands in u.s. two weeks from today. but the vat ran announced a -- vatican announced a process where catholic can annul the mayors. we explain how not all catholics are happy with the decision. reporter: this is called a radical reform. another game-changing announcement from the holy father. pope francis is allowing the

catholic church to fast track decision on marriage annulment and remove the automatic appeals. the major announcement from the vatican comes during the church's year of mercy. catholics must get a church annulment if they want to remarry in the church, an often long and expense i process. the new law allows bishop to fast track the annulments. >> i do think it is a good idea to help people who have had difficult times in their lives with difficult marriages. to be able to look to the church for support. >> the latest reform by the popular pontiff, who is two weeks away from touching down in the u.s. for the first time. the "washington post" reports the move by pope francis called more inclusive, more liberal and more progressive are causing dissent in the religious franks. the conservative cardinals are

"7 on your side." jonathan: how about this, d.c. police think 50 people could be the key to lowering crime in the district. this comes as the city has logged the 109th murder of the year. d.c. bureau chief sam ford joining us outside misheadquarters for a look at what the push means around the district. i have to imagine they are going after the 50 people. sam: that is what it seems to be at this point. the mayor the chief call the program gun stat. to focus police, parole and other agency attention on 50 people most likely to shoot somebody in d.c. last night was another violent night in the city. 28-year-old jarell hall was murdered in an apartment on forester street southwest. also five people were shot and wounded in an incident at melon and martin luther king avenue southeast. today the mayor and chief displayed more than 20 illegal guns, confiscated on the d.c.

streets recently. the chief says the recent homicide arrest show the suspects generally have a history of gun crimes. the 50 people targeted have 850 arrests on their records. many of them gun crimes she said. >> to take guns off the same person over and over again is unacceptable. that we put the administrators at that leverage of risk and the community at that risk. >> unless you have probable cause or some suspicion, you can't surveil people or search people. sam: that was johnny barnes the former director of the aclu in washington. he says the city pursues the program and the city can expect a lawsuit from the aclu for violation of constitutional rights. we will have more coming up. alison: we'll see you then. thank you.

alison: a set of conjoined twins in ohio have been successfully separated. they are recovering after 16-hour surgery involving 30 specialists. they were connected in the hip and the pelvic region. the 11-month-old twins are the daughter of ugandan woman. jonathan: 4-year-old boy and his dog recovering after falling in a well in

mississippi. elizabeth hur has details on the intense rescue efforts and what led to the accident. elizabeth: cheers from the family and community for a job well done. >> i thought it was a big relief. a big relief. every coming together. elizabeth: dozens of the emergency crews gave their all to rescue a 4-year-old boy stuck in a hole 23-feet deep. >> so close and so far was the most hardest thing about it. elizabeth: the family called for help after 5:00 p.m. we are told that is when 4-year-old gabe heard his missing dog parking outside his home in lincoln county, mississippi. he ran out to follow the sound and ended up falling in the same hole as the dog. >> him and the dog out in the yard playing. he was running, running like normal kid does.
