the results of a vote, next. news at 11:00, on your side. alison: first, a spree of vandalism in loudoun county that includes spray paint on a middle school and school buses. the graffiti appears to be getting-related. a neighborhood is on edge and the police are stepping up patrols as they canvas for clues. jay korff has the investigation happening now. ms 13 is a, notorious and dangerous gang that has a presence here in loudoun county, but law enforcement officials are not sure if the graffiti that was spray-painted all over this neighborhood in ashburn was done by a gang member. >> we don't need this kind of mess, nobody does. an unsettling feeling

washes over some people. iet little neighborhood was rocked with this ugliness. jay: sometime overnight monday, somebody spray-painted graffiti on several cars. >> it shocking. jay: this longtime resident witnessed the graffiti and said it was widespread. >> why us? why our little neighborhood? jay: they even hit school buses and the middle school. they are trying to determine if the graffiti is authentic, from a gang member. regardless, residents hope that these letters and numbers never return. >> it's a horrible thing. something you expect to be well protected and you never hear of these things, so it's sad. while the police search for the person or persons responsible, they have certainly

stepped up patrols in the neighborhood. live in ashburn, jay korff, abc 7 news. alison: thank you. scary video from vegas, where a british airways to all seven -- wasy british airways 777 waiting to take off when one of the two engines caught fire. firefighters rushed towards the airplane as the people on board used emergency slides to escape. 14 people suffered minor injuries using the slide. >> the people were running fast. it looks like a lot of people came out at once. closed one airport runway, but three others remained open during this. person hasnow, one died after being told from the potomac river. search teams found the person at 7:40 tonight. our reports that he or she went into the water near georgetown

you see in this video, for all of the victims. the organizer of the event, tony lived in this neighborhood when it was notorious for drugs, remembering days when the whole city was the murder capital of the country. the murders are not nearly as high, but he says it is heartbreaking to see it go back up after years of going down. he said it is time that people take action. mr. lewis: new residence, old residence, all of us coming together to say enough is enough. >> you have to communicate with everybody. it is such a small city, everybody gets to know one another. once we get to know one another, we are not frightened of one another. tonight's gathering took place on the same night that the mayor and police chief talked about a program that targets the 50 people in the district deemed

most likely, based on their past, to shoot somebody in the city and monitor them. live in northwest, tom roussey, abc 7 news. alison: thank you, tom. a major settlement in baltimore tonight, the city will pay $6.4 million and a wrongful death settlement with the family a freddie gray. he died from a spinal cord injury that he suffered in the back of the police transport van, triggering national protest, leading to charges against six police officers. the settlement still needs to be approved by the city board. stay with abc 7 for continuing coverage. in fairfax county, no charges against gl deputies following the death of an inmate, who died in february at 37 years old. deputies used a stun gun four times while she was shackled. she died a few days later.

history of mental illness and had previously attacked a deputy. the medical examiner ruled her death and accident, but it remains the subject of a federal civil rights investigation. episcor triple bishop -- will be sentenced to tenures in prison. she struck and killed tom palermo as he rode his bicycle in north baltimore last december. the bishop asked blood-alcohol -- the bishop's blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit. more hot weather ahead, the temperatures in the 90's expected tomorrow, but there is an end in sight. steve rudin has the outlook. some of us are ready for a change. extremene more day of heat and humidity, then some nice changes along with much-needed rain this time

this abandoned, or some call it cemetery, is under a heated debate. some date back to the 1850's, some have stone markers, some have much less. graves areand 17 here, next to the fire hall. county staffers recommend at the cemetery be moved to build a brand-new fire station. the fire chief says three other options would each cost an additional $1 million. he says at least one option, using a driveway that winds around the fire hall, what a cause delayed response times of a minute or more. opponents say this sends a bad signal about new development versus historical were sacred reservation. >> we were left out in the preening -- planning process. by the time it became an issue, there were somebody things in place that could not be adjusted that it was hard to move

controversy that has dogged her campaign for months. in an interview with abc news, clinton went further than ever before in saying that she is sorry for using a private e-mail server during her time as secretary of state. mrs. clinton: that is a mistake. i'm sorry about that. i take responsibility. i'm trying to be as transparent as i can. alison: today, clinton's successor, john kerry, named janice jacobs the first transparency coordinator. she will work to speed up responses to freedom of information act requests and approve a data record keeping system. a county clerk now released from jail, kim davis held in contempt of court after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in kentucky. she walked into a crowd of supporters, thanking them for their support. davis has brought increased attention to the debate over gay marriage. she was visited by presidential

candidates ted cruz and mike huckabee. this was a more important than simply her own freedom. she was willing to go to jail for what she believed. alison: wow lucked out, deputy clerk started issuing marriage licenses to all couples. last week, a federal judge she must not interfere with those clerks. the ceo of united-continental is stepping down. other top executives are out, united says this is tied with an internal investigation related to a probe into the port authority of new york and new jersey. in february, a grand jury subpoenaed information from the executive officers. media reports said that united was accused of adding direct flights to south carolina, near the home of a part of 40 official, in exchange for official favors.
