we're going to get right to it. the top story. it was a very scary accident in las vegas. a british airways plane was traveling to london. it was aborted in its takeoff when one of its engines actually caught fire. >> very scary and tense moments indeed. the crew's quick thinking appears to have saved the day. >> reporter: flight 2276 roaring down the runway at 90 miles an hour. starting its long trip to london when passengers heard a big thud and saw flames from under the wing. the crew aborting the takeoff. >> may day, may day. 2276 request fire services. >> heavy fire services are on the way. >> reporter: eyewitnesss say those emergency vehicles arrived within two minutes. the 777's doors flew open and the evacuation slides deployed although thick smoke poured into one of the doors. all 159 passengers and crew members headed for the exits including dominick worthington. >> everyone realizes there's a problem. we can see smoke on both sides of the plane.

and then we were all evacuated. so it was pretty crazy. >> reporter: passengers and flight attendants ran away from the burning plane. more than a dozen people were taken to the hospitals most injured as they went down the slides. the emergency shutting down part of the las vegas airport. attention all aircraft inbound on 7 right, emergency on 7 left possible. sounds like a fire an aircraft on fire. you can expect the possibility of a go round. >> reporter: and flights at other western airports were delayed, as well. buses brought passengers not injured to the terminal and hotels to spend the night. >> frightening ordeal. many of those passengers by the way, walked off with their bags which is not a good thing. flight crews do train for exactly this sort of emergency. a mechanical failure in an engine while taking off and flight 2276's crew was praised for handling it correctly. the national transportation safety board will be investigating. >> a wildfire that's been

burning in yosemite national park since monday has forced several areas of the park to close. smoke from the 500-acre fire is visible throughout the park. it's unclear how the fire started. it's being investigated. additional resources to battle the flames are expected in the area today. next our exclusive interview with hillary clinton. for the first time, clinton apologizing for using her private e-mail server while she was secretary of state. abc's david muir asking clinton, did she make a mistake? >> i did. i did. as i said, it was allowed, and there was no hiding it. it was totally above board. everybody in the government, i communicated with and that was a lot of people, knew i was using a personal e-mail. but i'm sorry that it has, you know, raised all of these questions. >> reporter: you mentioned everybody in the government knew that you were using this private server. >> uh-huh. >> did fellow members of the cabinet know? did the president know? >> everyone i e-mailed with and i'm not going to go into names.

but let me say i e-mailed with many people in the white house and the rest of the government of course, across the state department, knew that i was e-mailing from a personal account. it appeared you know, as my address. >> reporter: let's go bigger picture here for a moment. many who have said to themselves hillary clinton has been in the public eye for so long that she should have known and perhaps the more important question they're asking is can hillary clinton survive this. can you? >> yes, of course i can. i, as you might guess, have been around awhile and there have been lots of attacks and counterattacks and questions raised. and i can survive it. >> reporter: we then asked her about the other news of the day, joe biden. would he make a good president? >> he could be a good president. there's no doubt about that. >> reporter: then another candidate. donald trump. >> i'm always a little amused when people get into the politics and they think that all you have to do is give speeches and the more colorful you are, the more dramatic, the more

vehement you are, that's leadership. >> and also when asked if she questions why she's running for president, clinton says she wants to fight for all the people like her mother who needs somebody in their corner and they need a leader who cares about them again. president obama has secured enough votes to avoid an embarrassing veto on the iran nuclear deal. as congress returned from summer recess, four more democrats announced their support for the agreement, blocking republicans from passing a resolution disapproving the accord. donald trump and ted cruz will attend a rally on capitol hill today organized by the tea party to oppose the iran deal. the county clerk in kentucky who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples is out of jail. but the judge gave kim davis an order. she is not to interfere with the deputy clerks in her office while granting marriage licenses. her laurel refused to say whether she would defy the courts again. davis will not return to the office until friday at the earliest. united airlines is under new

leadership this morning. the ceo quit in the middle of a corruption investigation. the company's former boss and two other senior officials stepped down yesterday. the airline is being investigated over whether it gave preferential treatment to the former chairman of the agency that operates the airports in new york city. a new ceo has already been named. the city of baltimore has reached a tentative settlement with the parents of freddie gray, the young black man whose death sparked riots and a national outcry when his spine was nearly severed after his arrest. if the deal is approved, the family will get $6.4 million. the mayor says the settlement should not be interpreted as a judgment on the six baltimore police officers facing criminal charges in gray's death new details in the case against the south carolina police officer charged with murder shooting walter scott in the back as he ran away. attorneys for former officer michael slager say they have new evidence that could get him released on bond. they say there was a scuffle

before the shooting was videotaped by a bystander and they accuse scott of grab agslager's taser. a hearing set for tomorrow. the woman who survived an on air shooting that killed two tv journalists is back home this morning. vicki gardener was being interviewed when the attack took place. she released a statement on facebook saying she is strong and optimistic and she says she has no thoughts of why me. gardener also wants to unite her community after the tragedy. >> two formerly conjoined twins are said to be in stable condition in a hospital in columbus, ohio. the 11-month-old sisters and their mother are from uganda. they were separated during 16 hours of surgery last week. as they recover, each of them should be able to walk. >> we're very pleased they have every opportunity now to achieve a normal life. >> here's something you don't hear about often. surgeons used a 3-d printer to map out the operation before it took place. the girls are still in intensive

care unit. after they recover, they face some less complicated operations. parents are scrambling in seattle this morning after teachers announced they'll strike on the first day of school. last minute contract negotiations broke down over pay and other issues, as well. teachers will be on the picket lines instead of in the classrooms. 43,000 students attend classes in the seattle district. the help wanted sign is out today at chipotle. it's the first ever national career day at the restaurant chain. the goal is to hire 4,000 new employees. managers at every chipotle location will be interviewing up to 60 applicants this morning. the company says over the last year, more than 10,000 hourly employees were promoted to management roles. no word on what type of discount you get when you eat at chipotle. >> there's a future in case this doesn't work out for us. >> yeah, there you go. so before the williams sisters faced off last night at

there are new developments in the case of two high school football players facing possible criminal charges for tackling a referee. >> the stunning claim from the players saying they were just following orders. abc's t.j. holmes with more. >> reporter: the referee has no idea what's coming. violently blind sided in what appears to be an intentional hit. the football players say the ref came after them first verbally. district officials say they're filing a formal complaint against that referee regarding the racial slur allegations adding those alleged slurs and the frustration over what they thought were bad calls led the players to go after the ref. there might have been something else that triggered what the school called an assault, one of the coaches. >> the students allege that assistant coach said, that guy needs to pay for cheating us. >> reporter: that coach, mack breed, is now on paid administrative leave while the district looks into this allegation.
