say, i promise you, you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy, and my passion to do this. >> and biden also spoke at length about his son beau's death in may, as well as his faith and the emotional turmoil of working through his grief. >> the governor of arizona is asking drivers to be especially vigilant as the search continues for a possible serial shooter. 11 vehicles have been targeted since the end of august. abc's brandi hitt has the latest. >> reporter: drivers are on edge again on this busy phoenix highway with investigators looking into yet another round of vehicles that may have been targeted. this car's back window shattered early thursday morning. hours later, investigators also confirmed a bullet hole in this semi truck. >> we're not sure that all of these are bullets. it doesn't matter if it's coming from a handgun, a rifle or a pellet gun. >> reporter: in all, police say there have been nearly a dozen confirmed shooting incidents near this eight-mile stretch of

interstate 10 through the heart of the city. many drivers now feeling like sitting ducks. >> i use the side streets. i don't even use the 10 anymore. >> reporter: the targets over the last two weeks have been random, hit at all hours of the day on both east and westbound lanes. this pickup's back window was shot at wednesday. look at this tour bus with a gaping hole in the side and the seat. and this shattered window injured a 13-year-old girl. arizona authorities are now getting help from the fbi and atf in tracking down those responsible. >> to take potshots at moving vehicles that endanger people that are just trying to get to and from work epitomizes cowardice. >> investigators may be zeroing in on the shooter. in the last 36 hours, the calls they've responded to have been confined to a four-block area of interstate 10. reena? >> thank you so much. >> and a raging wildfire has forced evacuations in northern

california's sierra nevada foot hills sparked on wednesday. it's grown to around 15,000 acres. at least eight buildings have been lost. six of them were homes. more than 10,000 people are without power and schools across the are closed today. it's unclear how the fire started. that the now being investigated. >> staying in the west, investigators at the las vegas airport are probing the burnt out british airways jet that erupted in flames during takeoff tuesday. they know what happened in the engine that exploded. now the bigger question, why. abc's matt gutman reports. >> reporter: the national transportation safety board reporting part of the boeing 777's engine was disintegrating from the inside. in this video, you hear a bang. the plane shakes, then that curtain of smoke. >> ladies and gentlemen, please remain seated. >> reporter: the ntsb saying the engine case suffering multiple breaches. internal parts shooting outward like shrapnel. >> it's hard to express how rare this is. this is almost a never event. >> reporter: inside, terrified

of 9/11, some school kids in new jersey have set up a special memorial, the juniors and seniors at cedar grove high are too young to remember the day itself but decided to place 2,077 flags on their school's front lawn. they also have a name of each of the 9/11 victims on every single one of them. >> what a way to share such a tragedy that took place 14 years ago than with a group of kids here at cedar grove high school. >> this flag memorial will be kept in place for the next week and a half. school administrators say it will return next year to once again honor the 9/11 victims and heroes. there are new federal food safety rules focused on cleanliness following a series of deadly food born illnesses. those rules force food manufacturers to prepare food safety plans and detail how they keep their operations clean. they also will lay out how
