from our newsroom to your phone. alison: mold in a prince george's county school. but not just any school. jonathan: this is one of the "7 on your side" team that looked into the situation in the past. a maryland mother pulled her daughter from the classes. alison: she thought it was mold but the school didn't think anything was wrong. chris papst first broke the story. the mold problem now appears widespread, right? chris: it is becoming more of a problem, absolutely. in may i stood in front of the school that the children inside the school said they were getting sick possibly because of mold or mold allergies. at that time, the district said there was no mold inside of this building. but that is no longer the case. the end of last school year we introduced you to ms. jackson

who pulled her daughter out of the school because her daughter was passing out and getting terrible headaches. jackson claimed it was because of a mold problem to a mold allergy. after our story aired, the district cleaned the school. but denied the existence of mold. but not any longer. yesterday the district sent out a letter to samuel chase parents saying mold had been found in eight classrooms. those classrooms were vacated and cleaned. >> we just want a safe learning environment for the children and the staff. what is the harm in asking that? chris: "7 on your side" did forward documents and we got health records going back five years for this school. coming up at 5:00, we will tell you what is inside the health records and why the parents now say that this building needs to be torn down and the new one for their children needs to be built. chris papst, abc7 news.

suddenly a man jumps out of the wood line, grabs her, attempts to pull her in the woods and attempts to fondle her. she screams. someone hears the screams and comes to her aid and she is able to break free. that is the exact same scenario that played out two times prior to that. three times in the last three weeks this has happened. along the trails. a trail system through the park and to the west hyattsville metro station. people here are worried. >> i really get upset. i'm concerned. there is not enough lights on james town and hamilton street. at night it's very dark. >> the street at night is very dark. police have tips that they want people to follow. walk in pairs, take headphones out of your ears. when we come back at 5:00, we will tell you about what police are doing to stop the outburst of crime.

in hyattsville, brad bell, abc7 news. alison: 14 years ago to the day. four planes were hijacked. two went into the world trade center twin towers in new york, return went down in a pennsylvania field and another slammed in the pentagon. this morning a flag unfurled over the side where american flight 77 slammed into the pentagon. killing 184 on board. and on the ground. now there is a new push to keep the memory of the victims alive. john gonzalez is at the pentagon. john: we have been talking to 9/11 families today and they tell me it hasn't gotten easier 14 years later but they are focusing on the positive. they say the fact it's a beautiful blue sky today much like it was in 2001. now if navy admiral who gave the invocation today here at the pentagon said, "words cannot describe the depth and breadth of feelings at the pentagon today." still so painful 14 years

later. the secretary of defense spoke about the strength and the determination the nation gained since 9/11. the morning started with the unfurling of a 20 x 38 u.s. garrison flag. the same size as the one that flew here 14 years ago near the spot where american airlines flight 77 slammed in the southwest side of the pentagon. killing 184 people. there was a wreath laying followed by a moment of silence at 9:378. >> they did not and could not take from us what defines us. as americans we are defined by the resilience. by our readiness to stand up for values. by our willingness to honor the past even as we always begin a new. >> it doesn't get easier at all. a tragedy that will always be

in my family. >> the survivors spent time at the memorial dedicated in 2008. pentagon officials today saying the goal is to break ground on a memorial visitor center in 2017. at the pentagon, john gonzalez, abc7 news. [bells toll] jonathan: shanksville, pennsylvania, ceremony to honor those on the plane and those who saved others. the plane was hijacked but the passengers took control of the plane and it crashed in the field. all the passengers on board were killed. the memorial just opened yesterday. alison: in new york, moments of silence held to mark the attack across the city, followed by the ceremony of which the names of every victim were read. wreath placed at the 9/11 memorial and museum where the twin towers stood 14 years

a pleasant evening. today and tomorrow starts off pleasant with the morning sunshine but then the clouds and rain. check out the pollen count. high levels of weeds and the mold spores. moderate levels of grass pollen and trees. they have finished their stuff for the season. won't be long before the leaves start to change colors and falling off. another hallmark of fall. 87, the warm spot at reagan national. 83 in fredericksburg. 82 in frederick and gaithersburg. key to the comfort is the dryness of the air. we have a nice area of high pressure overhead with a beautiful delay and a beautiful night. but this is the problem for the weekend. another cold front with another area of low pressure moving along. clouds increase throughout the day as early as noon or 1:00. we could have occasional showers showing up tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. once the system goes by, there is still an upper level disturbance coming through to keep it cloudy. it's cool and breezy. can't rule out a passing shower. this is the deal for tomorrow at midday. showers and the thunderstorms.

eric, you have kenny loggins coming to your house. how did it happen? eric: it was a journey that started when i had seen kenny had a start project for his band blue sky riders and they were looking to fund their album, had their own goal. on the highest tier they asked for an amount off the page to have the brand come play in the living room. so i reached out through the website. figured out what the price was. i couldn't pony up the cash myself. so i just put a little bit of the entrepreneurial spirit to mine and decided i will start my own kick-starter project to see if i can meet the goal. the goal was $30,000. jonathan: so he is coming with the banned to play in your -- band to play in your living room. eric: yes. they are in nashville tonight and fly to washington, d.c. tomorrow afternoon and the show takes place late sunday afternoon. jonathan: your pictures of the

about the grand money to clear a rape kit backlog in virginia. commonwealth is getting $1.4 million to test more than 2,000 sexual assault evidence kits that are just sitting there. virginia attorney general talked about where the money will help the most. >> if we can stop the predators we can prevent further victimization. it's important to show survivors we are standing with them and that we will not tolerate sexual violence in the commonwealth. jonathan: still ahead for us we will hear from a woman champion this cause and has been doing it for years. we will have that coming up at "abc7 news at 6:00". surprising announcement from baltimore's mayor today. she says she won't run for re-election. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake was highly criticized over the city's handling over the rioting that came in the aftermath of the death of freddie gray. as the trials of the six officers charged in gray's death move forward she says her focus is on helping the city recover.

>> mayor rawlings-blake: the last thing i want for every one of the decisions i make moving forward at a time where the city needs me the most to be questioned in the context of a political campaign. jonathan: the primary for the mayoral race is in april. alison: new information today about booby traps found at frederick watershed forest preserves. we first told you about the devices, which are wooden blocks, as you see here, with the sharp metal blades attached. we told you about this wednesday. the blocks were buried in the ground. only the blades were exposed. the sheriff department is investigating and says it plans to put more cameras on the trails. if you have information, contact authorities right away. a man accused of kidnapping women from their homes in alexandria is in custody this afternoon. police tell us that man followed a woman right to her apartment on north patrick street last night and tried to push her inside. when she screamed, he ran off.

less than an hour later he did the same thing to another woman. he ran off in this case, too, but the officers were able to catch him nearby. >> it's terrifying and concerning. we have shooting around here. in the past month or two. more wary. jonathan: the police have identified the suspect as marquette johnson. who he is held without bond. if you saw anything that raised a red flag, give them a call. now to a "7 on your side" he felt note for you. americans should try to get their blood pressure lower than the current guidelines. this is according to researchers who say this is life saving information. elizabeth hur has more. elizabeth: the finding of the study looking at high blood pressure to convince the researchers at the national heart, blood and lung institute decided to end the

study more than a year early. federal health officials stating the results americans should try to keep the systolic blood pressure, the top number, below 120. lower than the current guidelines of 140 or 150 for people older than 60. >> this is striking and impressive. the alliance decided to stop the trial early, at least the intervention portion of the trial early announce the results. >> they are saying the blood pressure if tightly controlled could reduce chances someone has a heart attack or stroke and dies from heart disease. elizabeth: it tested 5,000 men and women to keep the pressure under 120. they concluded the risk of heart attack or stroke was reduced by a third and the risk of death was cut by nearly a quarter. experts say the results are preliminary. >> the problem is they don't give us enough information to decide for ourselves whether we should change what we are doing for patients. >> concerns over the side

no-sale policy to the members. two young men died after they tried powdered caffeine one time. wade sweat, 24 years old and newly married. logan steiner, 18 years old, days away from high school graduation. >> it's worse than a street drug. kimberly: the families shared the heartbreak with the f.d.a. that sent out enforcement letters warning five companies stopped selling powdered caffeine or face f.d.a. action including says zure of the product. kimberly: -- seizure of the product. kimberly: do you feel it's enough to get it off the marketplace? >> i hope so. i believe the language is strong and it shows the consumers and the industry that this is a potentially lethal product and should not be used by consumers and it would be irresponsible to sell. kimberly: "7 on your side" checked and two of the companies listed this as out of stock. we did find other online sources. companies not named by the f.d.a. and the individual sellers on ebay.

the police plan to investigate the pair for potential criminal wrongdoing. jonathan: around the nation for you. wildfire in california has tripled in size just since thursday night. now it's 15,000 acres and still burning out of control. the butte fire, which is 10% contained but that is such a small number, this is located outside of sacramento. mandatory evacuations now underway. the fire has destroyed eight structures. it also threatened ancient sequoia trees and a wildcat haven the fresno county. the winds throughout in the foothills are picking up and making it more dangerous. amazing video in minnesota. the images of the northern lights. they were shot along the st. croix river in pine county. look at the colors. north of indianapolis. it really lights up the night. you think it's daylight. the woman who shot the video is a flight attendant and sid she studied the phenomena 24/7. she got a street there. alison: beautiful. jonathan: ever seen them?
