few minutes. there may be a new candidate in the picture for the job of the metro general manager. after a month-long nationwide search it all came down to a tweet. brianne carter spoke with the possible candidate today. brianne: they are not commenting on anyone that is looking for the position but this tweet. metro rail info tweeted to this man saying interested in apply forking general manager position -- for applying to the general manager position? this is after he tweeted communication failure for mwata and again it can't happen and wouldn't if i were g.m. that is the top priority, he says. communication when it comes to metro. >> he needs to give us a heads up on what to expect when we get up. brianne: growing frustration for the riders looking for what seems like daily delays and worse impacting the system.

improving the communication is priority number one for kevin who is considering applying to be metro's next manager. >> you start with the communication and then you start tackling the communication and the maintenance problems, the funding problems. those sorts of big issues aren't going to be solved in one day. brianne: he is a professor of civil engineering at the campus with expertise in transportation engineering, public transportation and urban and regional transportation planning. he says his research in operations of the transit system could be an asset to the position. >> get together. getting the experts involved is the role of the general manager. that is something i could do. brianne: metro already reaches out to riders in many ways including text alerts, station announcements, weekly announcements to community groups and social media accounts including twitter. the transit agency has more than 100,000 followers.

leon: the man suspected of killing a trooper is dead. ponder was killed overnight and they closed in on johnson-thanks. they shot him when he refused to drop his weapon. ponder is the 26th police officer shot in line of duty this year. maureen: maryland grand jury indicted a woman found pushing her dead toddler on a swing. romechia simms charged with manslaughter and child abuse in the death of 3-year-old ji-aire lee. investigators say she pushed the boy on the swing for two theys and up to ten hours after he died. the boy died of dehydration and hypothermia. family members say simms

suffers from mental illness. leon: charles severance apparently confessed to killing three people while in county jail. he talked about it to other inmates while locked up for the crimes. he is charged with the three deaths. the trial begins october 5. maureen: arlington police are looking for the man who robbed a bank in boston this afternoon. suspect threatened a teller at the hsbc branch on wilson boulevard at around noon. the thief described as a black man in his 50's wearing a red hot, sunglasses, a green shirt and he apparently implied he had a weapon. teller handed over money and the man left. there were no customers inside the bank at the time and no one was hurt. up next, he is surging in the polls ahead of the next g.o.p. debate. we speak with dr. ben carson one-on-one. leon: plus, doug hill will be here and tell us just how long we can expect a beautiful,

maureen: joining us live is retired neurosurgeon turned presidential candidate dr. ben carson. thank you for joining us today. >> good to be with you. maureen: earlier we showed a national poll showing you closing in on donald trump. you have support of up to 20% of potential g.o.p. voters. with this poll comes two days with a debate. debate in two days. donald trump has upped the attacks on you. when you are in the debate you will be facing trump and also, of course, all of those behind you. what is your strategy going to be? dr. carson: it's simple and what it has always been. to tell the truth and talk about the issues. i'm not going to get in the mud pit and talk about the

people. i don't see anything productive about that. maureen: that seems to be the style in the last few weeks. slog mud at the candidates. do you promise not to do that? dr. carson: i won't do that. the perception i had done it earlier in the week is just a perception. never the intent. maureen: this week the nuclear deal negotiated to keep iran from acquiring nuclear weapons go into effect. you said it puts the nation at risk. it borders on being antisemitic. the deal is done. is it something that is worth fighting over no that it's over? dr. carson: it was done as executive deal rather than a treaty. it carries no wait when the

investigation is finished. maureen: will you try to repeal it if you become president? >> i would definitely be looking at a different avenue. i'm concerned about the future for your children. what would you do? >> i would look to severe sanctions. we establish our relationships europe and the allies. ja let's talk about the possibility of facing a federal government shutdown in next few weeks.
