these are the signs that should be turning green. they should have some arrows on them right now. when there is an accident or something going on on the roadways, it will give you a sign or indication that something is going on straight ahead. linewill start at the d.c. through route 29 in charlottesville. is tow system's goal improve the safety conditions on the roadways. it includes new sign gantries and link control, -- lane cont rol. you will be able to use the right shoulder lane during traffic accidents. it will ease some of the congestion we have seen during commutes. signs like those ahead will be able to direct traffic. it will be able to tell you what is going on and which lanes are closed. familiar, they

reopened. as we talk about 66 inside the beltway, you drop down to about 43. you saw some of the slowing prior to 66. about 15 minutes from the to the county parkway capital beltway. 395, working your way northbound, trying to leave the city from d.c. close to the mixing bowl, you are fine. using d.c. -- 395 to get into d.c., there is construction after duke street. it is in place until 2:30. we do have a lane blocked. this is the volume just prior to duke street. we do have it. it is not causing a major delay. just something to give yourself a few extra minutes for. that's a look at traffic. melanie: thanks so much. areat noon, police canvassing the neighborhood in arlington after a bank robbery. police say the suspect approached the teller at the bank on the 3100-block of wilson

boulevard this morning. the man implied he had a weapon and demented cash. this is right -- and demanded cash. this is right across the street from the clarendon metro. the man accused of killing uva student hannah graham is expected in court on a new charge. jesse matthew has now been indicted in the murder of morgan harrington. the courthousede with more on what we are expecting to learn today. you can see our shot is moving around a little bit right now. you see the parents of morgan harrington walking into the courthouse here in albemarle county. the reaction from the parents of morgan harrington was a great deal of relief, expressing yesterday that their hope and fight for justice had finally come to some sort of resolution. at least the process is going to be getting going in the next 15 or 20 minutes.

when the court hearing begins for jesse matthew, on friday, september 11, at a grand jury, they handed down the indictment for jesse matthew, related to the charges for the deaf and disappearance -- the death and disappearance of morgan harrington. matthew facing first-degree murder and adoption with intent to defile charges. went missing after a metallica concert in charlottesville in october, 2009. next summer, jesse matthew will be on trial for the deaf and disappearance of uva's -- the death and disappearance of uva student hannah graham. it was after that arrest that authorities announced a link between matthew and harrington. now, the official charge of murder. >> as taking someone's life should have consequences, today, cascade of domino consequences for jesse matthew

main break in northwest d.c. patients are being directed to another entrance while crews work on repairs to the 70-year-old broken pipe. detours are in place. the hospital said they have a backup main entrance. operations are not impacted. no word on when the road will reopen. it is another beautiful day out there. chief meteorologist doug hill is here with a look at the forecast. doug: [inaudible] lots of sunshine. not much change outside of the belford furniture weather center -- belfort furniture weather center. 81 degrees with low humidity right now. as we cruised through the afternoon, temperatures will

shut down next week. the fencing, the barriers, 10-foot fencing all around, lining up and down michigan. week, there will be security checkpoints, secret service, and d.c. police working with campus police here, working together for what will be a daunting task. they will communicate closely with the pope's swiss army back at the vatican. next wednesday, more than 25,000 people will be here on the mall of catholic university. that's not talking about the thousands that will be lining d.c. streets and other spots, like the national mall. this is going to be tightly secured. you can see at this hour what the east portico looks like. you can see the altar is starting to take shape. that's where the pope will celebrate mass. when he does, the terror alert will be high in d.c., new york,

melanie: the national guard and search teams are out again in utah, searching for several hikers. 16 people are now confirmed dead after flash floods swept through zion national park and the town of hildale. the number is expected to climb. the large wall of water and debris triggered by heavy rain swept them away in their cars. that houston school bus that veered off of a freeway overpass, killing two high school students, is out of the hospital and speaking out. police say she lost control and flipped off the highway after the driver of another car swerved and crashed into the side of the bus. a 14-year-old and 17-year-old girl died in the accident. two other students remain in the

after a suspected salmonella outbreak -- has been shut down since september 10 after a suspected salmonella outbreak. salmonella.es were a new state-of-the-art sport facility being built in southeast d.c. sam sweeney is in the newsroom with the economic boom this is expected to bring. that came great news down within the last half-hour. exciting news for a lot of people who live in the district. a brand-new entertainment and sports complex. it will be home to the mystics and practice facility for the washington wizards. it will host more than 99 sports events each year -- 90 non-spo rts events each year. the mayor says she expects it to create hundreds of jobs in residentsand ward 8 will get the priority for those

jobs. promisee made a big that we would not forget you. we made a big promise that progress in our city is tremendous and we have to spread it to every corner of the district of columbia. [applause] today, i am proud to announce a tremendous, overdue investment in the great ward 8. slated tonew arena is be built at the saint elizabeth east campus in southeast. it will cost about $55 million. the district will pick up $23 million of that tab. construction will be complete in 2018. melanie: the good news continues. we've got amazing weather this week. doug: day after day, no end in sight. you don't see this too often, 6, 7, 8 days in a row without substantial rain.

we haven't had much rain since the first of august. we will enjoy it, but we have to keep our eye on it as well. we will give you the view from cardinal ridge elementary school entreville,lle -- cn virginia. actually gorgeous at sunrise. -- absolutely gorgeous at sunrise. we will repeat this pattern until we get another pattern in here. we don't see that showing up quite yet. 84 degrees in chevy chase. 83 in falls church. 78 degrees now in fort washington. as we get through the afternoon, we are looking for the trends to get towards 84, 85, just four or five degrees above average come but it will not be uncomfortably -- above average, but it will not be uncomfortably warm.

into the ohio valley, all about the same as we have been seeing, this enormous height pressure -- high-pressure across the area. we are starting to see a few from the gulfl in of mexico, but their trajectory will be to southeast virginia. the most we will see change-wise, we may have a few clouds developing tomorrow afternoon and into the day friday. temperatures the next few days may creep up just a little bit. futurecast shows clouds destined for southeast virginia and the lower bay. we stay mainly clear tomorrow and the day until we get something strong enough to bring in a new system. the only change we have is into sunday and monday. in this timeframe, we are not talking about any rain. we originally thought it may be a passing sprinkle. if there is going to be one, it will be out in the mountains sunday morning. otherwise, partly cloudy, breezy

one investigation details what a family called a horrifying outcome of their sitter search. they hired a sitter through care.com, which includes a background check, which came back clean, but it turns out the sitter was using a fake identity and ended up stealing thousands from them. since it was a case of identity theft, authorities say there was no way it would have shown up in the background check. experts recommend looking at the person online before hiring them to make sure the picture matches the sitter's profile. it is note the price children like pizza, french fries, foods surprise -- it is no that children like pizza, french fries, foods like that. fast food is considered heavy in calories. scientists believe it is a major contributor to kids being overweight, which is a national health concern. we have warm and sunny weather out there, taking a live look
