>> now, abc 7 news at noon. jumy: we are just hours away from pope francis arriving in washington dc." he is boarding that plane and getting ready to make his way here into washington d c. that will happen in just a few hours. he has been in cuba for the past several days. he is getting ready to enter the plane. he gives his people wave.

have to know? a lot ofarter: preparation has been taking place over the past couple of hours here in the northwest. you can see what they have set up in the past couple of hours. this will control the flow of traffic in and out. this is a long massachusetts avenue. the lanes here in the southbound were shut down to traffic. they have reopened those. they have got all of this set in place. around the northwest, road closures are in place ahead of pope francis is afternoon arrival. this came as a surprise to some during the morning commute. i did not know. >> are you serious? carter: this is just the

beginning of days of delays for people trying to get around town. there will be dozens of road closures between now and thursday. police are urging people leave the car at home. no parking signs are already up. public transportation is expected to be packed. this is the smallest station on the red line, it could be the busiest tomorrow. metro officials will be running rush-hour trains to the next two days. they expect the crush of commuters. up thiswill be heading morning. they may have to come up with a new planet for the rest of the week. take a live look here. you can see the flag is out. preparations are underway. security is starting to make its way. the police and the secret service are here along

tomorrow morning, he visits the white house along with a parade. there will be a mass in the afternoon. on friday, he makes his stork address to congress. you can stay right here with abc 7 for the latest. we are bringing you more than 40 hours of coverage, all of the popes events. news, d.c. police are searching for two men connected to a shooting. this happened this morning in the 100 block of 36th street in northeast d.c. and at reyes was there. -- jeannette reyes was there. jeannette reyes: this happened just a few yards away from where we are standing. this was at 9:15 a.m. received two calls.

let's focus on how slow we are. you talked about the congestion it, this is about six miles per hour before you get to the connector road. you're not seen any delays past 66. the only delay is on 66 and then we have an issue on the freeway. this is on the third street tunnel headed northbound. all lanes are blocked off while they are doing that work. there are some closures that went into place this morning. betweeneet northwest massachusetts avenue and a garfield street is closed. these closures will be in place until right around a 4:00 on thursday. , if you are traveling inbound, that's where andmay see the motorcade

they are taking another live look at the airport in santiago, cuba. pope francis is on that plane and his next stop is here. this is a farewell ceremony for the pope. we expect them to get here around a 4:00. the president and first lady will greet him when he gets here. monks in washington is celebrating the pope's arrival with a one-of-a-kind event. john gonzalez is live with more on a holy watch party. that it's hard to believe in just a few hours, the holy father will arrive. he will land 21 miles from where we are. just take a look.

he will be treated by the president and first lady. he has been in a santiago for just today, a mass there. he has been in cuba for several days. he has held several masses. you can see a man there with his hat. the plane is heading down the runway right now. we assume that in the next couple of minutes, it will take off. he is on the taxiway heading to the runway. you have to go a lot faster than that to take off. he is expected here around 4:00. it will take just a couple of hours. we assume everything will go safe and sound and he will arrive here in a few hours. it looks like they have gorgeous weather and gorgeous skies there. it looks pretty good down

had been meeting with parishioners. he visited a shrine there. it's one of the most important shrines in that country. with a that he met couple hundred people. exchange some gifts and well wishes with people in that area. it seems like the plane might be on the move. autria: i think they are going to take off in a different direction. doug: i am not familiar with that airport. it's pretty scenery. jumy: it does look gorgeous. doug: that italian jet has a sleek profile. they will just have to wait till they get to the active runway and get some power. jumy: we will keep this live picture. any storms in that flight path?

of this cloud cover and rain from yesterday. we've got this area mostly in the 60's, farther west where the sun is raking out, temperatures are in the low 80's. it's just a little bit of time before we pregnant. the storm is staying away from us for the next couple of days. things are working out as expected. the same story on thursday, by the time we get to freddie and saturday, we have more time to talk about that. it will be cloudy around here. we're looking at the possibility of a little bit of rain. be friday and saturday. the timeline for the parade and activities, 80 degrees by 3:00 tomorrow. that will be just in time for the mass. let's take a look at this next seven days. we have the chance of some showers as we get through friday and saturday.
