summertime. images show, some of them you can see right there, the dark narrow streaks grow in the warmer month and fade the rest of the year. this comes from the large reconnaissance orbiter which has been circling mars for nine years. >> the more we observe mars the more information we are getting that it's a fascinating planet. from the curiosity rover, we now know that mars once was planet like earth. with warm, salty seas, with fresh water lakes. possibly snow-cap peaks and a water cycle like we study on earth. suzanne: researchers say further explanation is warranted but because it's essential to life, the findings could have major implications to whether there is life on mars. we have more coming up at 5:00. jonathan: that is fascinating. thank you from a red planet to red moon. break in the clouds let some of you see the super moon eclipse last night. it was beautiful.

as we move through early tomorrow morning waking up to 66 in fairfax. 27 -- 62 in college park. generally in the 60's. if you like it cool, cloudy and breezy, wait until you see what we have ahead for the upcoming weekend. more on that from the belfort furniture in a few minutes. jonathan? jonathan: see you then. thanks. now to a developing story with facebook. if you are a facebook addict, you are on every 15 seconds and you know there is trouble. right now the site is down for a lot of users. of the just in our area -- not just in our area. this is worldwide. when you log on, you get a an error message. this is the second time in a week the site has gone down. last week they got it back up in ten minutes but so far it's still down. alison: new information in the death of freddie gray. an investigation reveals that gray asked for medical help during his arrest and while in baltimore police custody. according to investigators who reviewed officers statements, at least one officer warned that gray needed the medical

care but the officer with the others wondered if he was faking injuries or being uncooperative. he died in the back of a police van and six officers pleaded not guilty in the case. the al-zubaidi police -- the bladensburg police officer is investigating a claim where a woman says an officer punched her after escorting her from a restaurant in july. she is also facing charges of assaults the officer and an employee of the restaurant. the bladensburg police plan to bring evidence in the case to the attorney's office for its review. a video that shows a fairfax county police officer using a stun gun on a suspect is now sparking an internal investigation. that video has received thousands of view on social media. it happened thursday in the rose hill shopping center in alexandria section of fairfax county. in the video it appears that

the man is complying with the police command. the officer was looking into a theft complaint. the man shot with the stun gun was arrested. we'll have more coming up on "abc7 news at 5:00". montgomery county is one of the places around the country wrestling with how to handle the police body cameras. the committee met to discuss the issue today. a statewide panel is set to release the findings on the body cameras thursday as maryland tries to set its own usage policy. we have more on the montgomery county action coming up tonight at 6:00. jonathan: than, investigators are trying to piece -- this an, investigators are try to piece together what killed a mother and son. it happened on benfield road. brad bell has a closer look at the investigation. what do we know, brad? brad: this is the house across from the high school.

people know who this is. the mother is pauline naylor, with her 11-year-old son william. they were in the front bedroom and as we pan to the left, you can see how terrible the fire was and how they were trapped in there. we can show you what it looked like when the firefighters arrived. the neighbor took the cell phone video. you can see that the flames are reaching into the sky. this is 1:45 a.m. this morning. the firefighters went into the burning building to try to make the rescue but it was too late. they pulled the people out. the firefighters got out themselves. as soon as they got out the fire was so big they had to call evacuation for all the firefighters and fight from the outside. the neighbor watching said he has never seen anything like this. >> when i got here, we were across the street.

the back of the house was in flames. engulfed in flames and moving quickly forward. there was firemen inside the house. they were busting out the windows and it was engulfed. brad: it was just engulfed. when we come back at 5:00, we will tell you more about the victims. the woman who managed a nursery and the little boy who just started in middle school. he loved to talk about the doggings. the dogs -- the dogs, too, died in the fire. brad bell. alison: christian rap artist accused of speeding down a street and deliberately running over a business associate will remain in jail awaiting the trial. kevin lewis has the latest. >> calling it a business transaction gone wrong.

mcdaniel since he was a little boy broke down as she walked out of court. >> anything like this is disturbing. this was difficult knowing the kid he is. you wouldn't expect it. >> mcdaniel's family was also in court but too distraught to speak publicly. police tell us they found blood and other d.n.a. on the car. the charge is first degree murder. i'm kevin lewis, abc7 news. alison: virginia could hold the first execution in three years this week. alfredo prieto was already facing the death penalty in california. when he was convicted of the 1988 murder of rachael raver and her boyfriend warren fulton iii. unless governor terry mcauliffeor the u.s. supreme court steps in, prieto will be put to death on thursday. virginia will be borrowing the

the pentagon says that troops and civilians working with the department of defense mights not get paid. we could see plenty of local, federal workers to stay home. as in years past, the national parks and the national zoo panda cam would be closed. until the government reopens. congress may pass a resolution to give them more time to figure it out. scott thuman has a look at either this happening, i mean how will they avoid this? scot: we could get a vote this evening. it's on a continuing resolution. what you would see is the delay of the budget deadline till december 11. you read the daunting list of things to happen. nobody wants to see that.

the funding for an entire year from planned parenthood and take the money to give it to the other resources that do provide women's health. but wouldn't be as connected to the issue of abortion. they want to be aggressive about the issue because they believe that the video gave them a pathway forward to say we can no longer allow this process to continue. we'll see it on the campaign trail and on capitol hill. but the fight is far from over. the budget battle is easier than the planned parenthood. jonathan: what is your best guess the odds of them shutting it down again? scott: from what i heard on the hill, i was talking to people. we had a hand 68 -- handful done but our team and everyone said it will all work. granted with that said, you know we can say okay, it will happen. suddenly there is a hiccup and now you get down to the wire and it could be a late vote on the evening of wednesday. who knows?

jonathan: a week after the fire near metro stadium armory station, the system planning major changes in the morning.

as brianne carter reports they have an impact on riders using three different lines. brianne: heads up. starting tomorrow there are changes that could affect your commute. this bus coming a few moments ago to drop people off and getting to rail. this is where the focus will be. this is the orange, blue, silver trains. that changes tomorrow morning. starting tuesday, the skip stop strategy whether be in place. that means during rush hour only the blue line trains stop at the station. orange and the silver line trains will pass through without stopping. this will only happen during rush hour. from 2:00 until 7:30 in the evening. so in the evil all the trains will make the stop. this is in addition to other operating changes that metro

colonel to grandfather. for his democrat opponent he lists two. doctor and mother. her campaign argues that is offensive to working women. >> the difference to me is being a working mom was not enough to serve in the state senate. kimberly: isn't that your experience being a doctor and a mom? >> absolutely. an experience i'm proud of. i could add several other items to the list as well and many are on the website but they failed to put it in there. kimberly: we reached out to the black campaign but they did not respond. they did issue a statement and said --

it will be back nationwide by november. job cut for whole foods as they look to lower prices and keep up with the competition. they say the employees whose jobs are cut will shift to 2,000 open positions across the company. they found that they were overcharging the customers. jonathan: let's get back to the question we supposed to you for the day and it has to do with the fall-out after a fight in the nationals dugout between papelbon and bryce harper. alison: everyone is talking about this. the afternoon the team suspended the pitcher jonathan papelbon for fur gomes after he put his hands -- for four games after he put his hands around bryce harper's throat.

rescue crews on the mountain where someone has fallen. these are live picture of a rescue helicopter hovering over an area. whether or not they have to pluck somebody from an area that is steep over the terrain and difficult to work with. we don't know the update on the condition of the person that did fall. when we get an update we will get it to you. alison: two local police officers accused of excessive force. this police department is investigating a claim against its own officer. a 29-year-old woman says she was punched by an officer after she was arrested out of a restaurant in july. she is facing charges of assaulting that officer and employee at the restaurant. they are going to turn over evidence to the state attorney office for review. jonathan: same time, the fairfax county police department has come under fire for the video here. in the video an arrest caught
