doppler radar. of few showers southeast of washington and heavy rain in the charlottesville area. likely to see thunderstorm activity, but it is not moving toward the metro area right now. it is moving north and northwest, but there is a lot of rain to watch. a lot in the atmosphere. if you look at the coast of the carolinas, this system is pulling moisture in from the atlantic area there is the potential for a lot of rain. be west most of it will of the metro area. if that's not enough to keep an eye on, we have a tropical storm as well. it is north of the bahamas. the latest projections from the hurricane center have the center off the outer banks by sunday. even with the system far away, it could still produce a lot of rain. a lot on our play to cover, and we will do that for you. we will have the seven-day

forecast as well in just a few minutes. jummy: service changes on the blue, orange, and silver lines put to the test this morning. takes a look at how things went so you know what to expect. change ofa major stations on three metro lines. during the morning and evening rush hours, blue line trains are the only one stopping at the armory. or ainge and silver line trains will pass through. -- orange and silver line trains will pass through. by midmorning, only a few dozen people boarded the bus. the change comes after a transformer fire that knocked out power to the station last week. last friday, metro began running or range and silver line trains every eight minutes and that of every six.

metro officials say the service change is designed to use congestion and the stop and go some people have been feeling on their commute. but the change inside the station doesn't seem to be helping, according to some on social media. one sent a letter to metro asking the agency to rethink the service reduction. of the fire, and that's outside of their control, but i think there are steps they suggested that are too much. upould love for them to come with some other alternatives. reporter: metro officials say it could take months to repair the problem. there is no timeline on how long the service adjustment could be in place. jummy: now we want to get a check on the roadways this noon. jamie sullivan has a look at traffic for us. starting with a

avoid a government shutdown. the senate passed a temporary spending bill today. the house is expected to improve it before a wednesday deadline of midnight. of thehas been stripped tea party backed measure to defund planned parenthood, but that fight may not be over. lana zak has the latest from the hearing on capitol hill today. this is the first time the planned parenthood president is appearing before congress since the release of the now infamous video. >> the latest smear campaign is based on efforts by our opponents to entrap our doctors and clinicians into breaking the law, and once again, our opponents failed. reporter: she has in on the sinceive since last july a video was released appearing to show her discussing the harvesting of fetal tissue organs. >> every single investigation has found no wrongdoing of

basilica last wednesday during the canonization mass? we are getting chilly details about an incident involving this man in new york. he was arrested on the tarmac at veryhile armed with a large hunting knife. he told police he wanted to meet the pope and claims he was here in d.c. just days earlier. saturday evening, he was driving a black tahoe. somehow, he joined a police motorcade. fortunately, the pope had already left for philadelphia. formers man, a firefighter from new york city, waved some sort of silver badge to get cleared initially. he even told police, i want to change the world. >> i am glad he got through safely and went on safely, and now he is back home. >> i am glad nothing happened. i think we were all praying. >> it took a while to get through security, but that's because they were checking everybody. everybody was excited to see the pope.

we switch now to the district, where the mayor met with council members to discuss streamlining responses. he wants to hire a contractor to handle non-life-threatening calls, which the fire chief estimates is about 80% of the calls they receive. the hope is that private ambulances would free up the limited number of the ambulances more severecs for calls and that could reduce response times. we will have more on the meeting happening this afternoon starting at 4:00. to a crime alert now in the district, police investigating three double shootings, all last night. the most recent was in the 1300 block of fort stevens drive northwest. no update on how badly the victims are injured. we know one person was killed in a separate double shooting in self east -- in southwest d.c.

in arlington, police are investigating a sexual assault. a 23 or old woman was attacked on north herndon street. -- 23 year old woman was attacked on north herndon street. suspect was described as a heavyset white male in his 60's. police do not believe this is connected to a string of sexual assaults in the county since august. lawyers for six baltimore police officers charged in connection --h the death of fredi freddie gray will ask the judge to delay the first trial. officers get individual trials. the charges range from second-degree assault to second-degree depraved murder. the first trial is set to begin in two weeks. great died after suffering injuries while in police custody. died after- gray suffering injuries while in police custody.

tomorrow morning. heavier downpours are certainly a possibility. doppler radar shows a few showers developing to the south and east of washington, pushing to the northwest, kind of the opposite of the way they normally move. there is a lot more to come as low pressure continues to spin. as it does, it will draw in more moisture. the heaviest rains will be north and west of the metro area. later tonight, we think this will make a swing through the area. -10:00 tonight, we expect heavier rain in the area. 4:00 this afternoon, some heavy rain over the northern end of the shenandoah valley. not so much toward the metro area. however, later tonight, we could have some thunderstorms to deal with. things should calm down a little overnight with some breaks in the overcast. that should get us through tomorrow morning.
