big glimpse of the enhanced satellite. ind indicates that the storm is intensifying. cloud tops are higher and colder. it is getting stronger. top winds reported at 85 miles per hour. so what is going to happen around here in the next couple of days we will be watching and watching what happens. track to the southwest and it is going to make a uturn and head north. this is the latest track by the national hurricane center with the top winds of 85 miles per hour. gusting to 105. keep a note as you look at the track the center line doesn't mean it will come off chesapeake bay. i could come west or the east and staying offshore. this is like the center of the projection. but we are talking the sunday to monday time frame. it could intensify to category three hurricane east of savannah georgia. category two nearing the coastline and slowly weakens. it will be a strong stretch of the high winds and heavy rain

before it makes landfall. complicating matters. the preponderance of the models suggest more than likely it may have a north carolina affinity. the models changed and they will continue to change in the next couple of days. the storm is heading south. once it makes the right-hand turn and starts to head north we have more information to share and the potential of heavy rain before jack joak is close to the coast -- joaquin is close to the coast. alison: more rain is the last thing some of the communities need. frederick is one of the areas cleaning up from flooding from last night. maryland bureau chief brad bell is live with a look at the damage. brad? brad: i want to show you this. we are here an hour ago. what is goin on is this the ymca. early childhood learning center flooded last night. in the last hour the pile of

furniture and furnishings from the childhood learning center has grown. they have to throw everything out because the water has sewage in it. i was three feet deep. it's a shambles. the first floor flooded. clean-up will take weeks. there is to place to go for the 90 children who come to the y's daycare center. the executive director says she has been fighting back tears all day long. >> a lot of people look to come here and hang out and just, you know, be with friends and family. so it's, you know, tough not to be operating to provide the connect tiffty -- connectivity. brad: that caught them off-guard. look at the restaurant. baker park half flooded from what may have been five inches of rain. >> it's terrible.

the whole place was nuts. brad: keith is among those who heard the term flash flood but didn't understand what it means until now with the cars soaked and basements ruined. >> 12 inches in the basement at least. probably 18 inches out here. >> well, he had 18 inchings in his yard. look at this. i think that you can see the line. this is the debris line. that is how deep the water got in this backyard. all of the basements here, a row of ten houses or so. can take a look. every single one of them got flooded out. nobody saw it coming and they don't like the forecast ahead. in frederick, brad bell, abc7 news. leon: thank you, brad. clean-up underway from the storm damage in laurel. last night more than three inches of rain fell in under an hour. abc7 news out there looking at the dam including a huge hole in the building's roof.

the city of laurel used a drone to get out in the air and survey some of the damage today. the national weather service will determine if the mess was caused by a tornado or micro burst. maureen: with more bad weather expected in the next couple of days now is the time to get ready. mike carter-conneen is live in alexandria with a look at how residents are preparing before the next round of heavy rain. mike? mike: of course, maureen. old time residents are no stranger to flooding and storm impacts. right now at the low tide tonight. but many were unaware of joaquin. some are planning to prepare tonight. >> residents in flood-prone old town will be ready for whatever joaquin brings. >> prepare for it. >> we are a hearty lot in alexandria. we had hurricane isabelle. we are going to stay and stick

it out. it's the alexandria spirit. they expect the storm-related supplies will sell out. >> weather radio, first aid kit. all of that in a major storm event won't stay on the shelf long. >> instead of buying sand bag, nick duncan advises the customers to invest in water barrier instead. this one is cheaper than whying several sand bags. it's reusable, compact and more effective. >> you getter a better seal with the water than the sand. when you are done you empty the water out and fold it up and store it. sandbag after the storm, wants a sand bag around? they just usually dump them and it gets trashed. >> the storm only had three ohio barriers in -- hydrobarriers in stock. but as the storm is closer the supplies will be limited. today alexandria and d.c. were

>> bliss in maryland are looking for driver who hit and killed a u.s. marine. corporate william ferrell was struck lost night along u.s. 15. ferrell pulled over in the heavy rain to help a stranded driver. police are look for a tractor trailer or a heavy duty pickup towing a trailer. the vehicle has right-side damage caused by hitting ferrell's vehicle. alison: the national transportation safety board is recommending greater federal oversight of metro. the ntsb wants the department of transportation, the federal railroad administration specifically to oversee the metro rail safety. nar to happen, congress would have to pass a law re-classifying metro as a commuter rail network. leon: coming up at "abc7 news at 6:00" -- the fight to prevent a government shutdown. details on what happened on capitol hill today with a matter of hours to spare. maureen: ramping up the fight against isil. how russia is joining the effort. doug: the latest update on the hurricane. hurricane joaquin. increases the likelihood of an impact in the midatlantic.

leon: crisis averted for now. hours before midnight deadline the house pass a bill to keep the government funded. but there is still a catch in this. "7 on your side" government investigator chris papst is live to explain it all for us.

leon: the pentagon and the white house announcing intentions of the airstrike in syria. moscow claims the target islamic state. maureen: tonight we are learning that more than 70 people will lose their job when laurel regional hospital is closed. the closing was announced earlier in the summer. dimensions healthcare is going to replace the hospital with

an ambulatory center. the "wall street journal" report the cuts begin next month. maryland workers, maryland leaders are working with the gaps left in medical services in prince george's county. leon: six new bike share stations coming to wheaton. the montgomery county transportation won a grant for the bike share network and it should be installed by the end of next year. maureen: let's get to doug hill. doug: two stories. more rain moving in friday and saturday and the impact on the mid-atlantic from the hurricane joaquin. start with the update of the number. this is yesterday and today so far how much rain fallen from behind the cold front. at the top of the leaderboard here, 4.5 inches in leesburg. 3.5 in mount aerial. s this is light rain today and tomorrow but friday and

saturday is a different story. this is the location of the cold front. rain along the front. the front is going to sit still and steady in this position. but over the next couple of days it could deep and it may expand westward to bring the possibility of more rain into the area. there is a push of moisture and it is going to intensify with the rainfall. tomorrow the rain will expand northward. friday the heavier rain will arrive. this is through 6:00 p.m. friday. forward of that we will put together a compilation of the rainfall total. by the time we get through now and 6:00 p.m. sunday, we have 4 inches.

this is the separate event. all ahead of anything that could develop with joaquin. >> the storm is a potent system. we are looking at the winds. the massive winds at 85-mile-per-hour. this is now categorized as a hurricane. wind gusts at 105 miles per hour. movement to the southwest around 8. this is moving closer toward the bahamas. this is where we expect this to happen in the coming days to take a sharp turn toward the north. it could, could make landfall. somewhere across the midatlantic as early as sunday. keep in mind widespread from new york city to central west virginia. it could be under the influence of the storm. the center line that you see here, this is a best guest suggested track. this does not mean it will ride up the chesapeake bay toward d.c. metro area. if this does move this way we will see windy conditions and rain across the region.

these are the latest with the spaghetti plot. this gives us insight as to where the storm may be going. look how it spins around and twists over north carolina. if that happens they could look at a significant flood event. north carolina in southern virginia. a lot of rain for the d.c. metro area. i will take you out with a look at the next seven days talking the daytime highs only in the 60's tomorrow. by friday, better chance for a heavy rain during the daytime and the evening hours. highs in the upper 50's. lower 70's on sunday. tropical moisture overspread the midatlantic. question mark sunday to monday. any good news with the seven-dayout look we will end tuesday and wednesday with sunshine. daytime high in the 70's. we have cool updates coming in and on wjla.com. leon: thank you.

erin: after colt mccoy missed practice with a cut on its feet there was speculation that ring griffin could be a step closer to be the backup but it doesn't appear that way now. mccoy practiced and stock snaps in the walk-through portion of practice and he didn't appear to favored his injured foot while he ran. what happened? according to jay grude grude mccoy tried to take tame of his foot, the scissors cut him. he couldn't stop the cutting. and he told gruden not to tell anybody but the coach says he is okay. while mccoy practiced today. jackson did not. jackson suffered a hamstring injury in the season opener. head coach jay gruden said that he is still day-to-day and it's still unclear whether he will play sunday against his former team. meantime, the nationals continue their final week of the season taking on the brave in atlanta. jordan zimmerman is on the
