>> from abc 7 news, this is a breaking news alert. >> that breaking news this noon out of culpeper county. there are three schools on modified lockdown right now. those schools are culpeper county middle school, high school, and the alternative school. police have a student in custody after they tell us that person brought a gun on a bus. andstudent is in custody the schools are on a modified lockdown. that is all we know right now but we will bring you more information as soon as we get it so stay with abc seven. we are following breaking news and a huge case in arlington

county.police arrested a man connected to a string of sexual assault in the county . we have all of the details. arrestce made that this morning as the suspect was exiting a metro bus in the courthouse section arlington. the suspect has been identified by police. 19-year-old melvin perez boinilla is charged with two counts of attempted abduction. analysis are being done right now to confirm involvement in another attack as well. police say he confessed to multiple sexual assaults during questioning a police headquarters.police say the initial attack happened on july 25 as a victim was walking alone. that men currently being held at the arlington county detention center. reporting live, brianne carter. jummy: another big story this noon, and accused the real killer on trial.

opening arguments in the trial could soon begin. he is charged in the death of three people in alexandria. countylive at the courthouse with new developments regarding the case. >> that's right. this is day three of jury selection and we just got word a few moments ago from our prosecutor saying there is chance the arguments will happen today meeting selections for the jury will continue today. they will likely be seated today and opening arguments are likely said to begin tomorrow morning. was happening inside the courtroom now is what is called the wadeer portion of the jury selection. they are asking the jurors if they can be fair and selective on this case and if they pay attention to media alerts regarding this and fairness with firearms and mental illness. those other topics expected to

be brought up during portions of this trial. murders duringa a more than 10 year period. prosecutors say he was motivated by hatred of the system as well as a custody dispute. they have writings and actions to prevent. with no direct evidence and no definitive witness providing the defense with the opportunity to raise reasonable doubt. say tothe prosecutors the jurors this case will involve evidence that will be frightening, terrifying, and graphic. we expect to start hearing the evidence at some point tomorrow. we will be here covering it closely. live in fairfax, jeff goldberg, abc 7 news. jummy: a developing story now in stafford county. a man in custody after an hour-long standoff. this happened in the sunnydale near 610.wnhomes

someone from inside the apartment called 911 about a man with a gun. the color to get out of the apartment but the person with a gun barricaded himself inside. just in the last hour, police took the suspect in custody. no word on what prompted that incident. is more than 100 firefighters to finally contain a three alarm fire that damaged a church in chicago. the fire broke out at the shrine of christ the king church just before 6:00 this morning. luckily, nobody was hurt.investigators still are not sure what caused the massive fire. officials say it may be related to renovation work being done at the church. the same church was gutted by fire in the 1970's. right now, more people are being forced from their homes in south carolina as the flooding threat continues there. water levels are still rising in some areas. at least nine dams have failed since saturday.

we have the latest on relief efforts there. they have been working especially on shoring up the dams as much as they can. there is one a few miles north of your that they worked overnight ringing rocks and sand using heavy equipment making sure it would not reach this morning. they almost have to evacuate a new religion at the last possible moment, they were able to make it strong enough with the situation is still tenuous. relief operations are underway in south carolina, even as dams breached and evacuations continue. 35 dams are currently being monitored throughout the state. of those, 11 have fields and saturday. beaver creek dam which officials warned was on the break failure has stabilized. >> this is a time of fate and strength and taking care of each other and neighbors taking care of neighbors. if we do that, we will come out of this better than we have before. >> hundreds of national guard members are in colombia to

assist. should not helicopters have been flying over the area dropping sandbags and equipment. >> it will take a while for us to get back to where we are. as a collective effort, we have had state and local and federal officials on this issue meeting. we will get there sooner than people expect. >> the national guard is not alone in the effort. residents of south carolina are stepping up to support affected communities, donating food, water, and toys. >> i read in the news this morning that they had urgent needs so i did not hesitate to drop everything and when as much water as a good in my car and deliver it as soon as i could. >> the governor is giving a press conference right now updating everyone on the situation. one of the things she and other officials have been stressing is the need to stay vigilant even though this rain has stopped. even where we are right here,

we get into the afternoon. the clouds indicative of what it is like. a little warmer. we will do you underway with a time lapse. this picture from the belle haven country club in alexandria along the shores of the potomac river. it was absolutely gorgeous there today with plenty of breaks in the overcast promised for later. maybe it has been the clouds that have been keeping people off the course. as the afternoon goes on, we will have more sunshine coming our way. temperatures at midday already in the lower 70's at spots. 74 an in falls church. the numbers will continue to climb slowly. our average high this time in october is 72. we will be a little above average. our satellite shows the clouds earlier this morning. that you get into some clearing.

some indication of clearing skies so we will go partly sunny . i do not know if we will get mostly sunny but close to it. the key is it will be quiet with light winds and pleasant weather. still good news weather-wise across the carolinas. south carolina mostly clear skies statewide now. temperatures rebounding there as well. this gives us an idea of the shift in the atmosphere. more clouds will pass overhead to the north. as it into the afternoon and evening, more clouds line up as the cold front comes through. this could well bring us scattered showers and thunderstorms on friday afternoon. a 40% chance. the front will come and go and we will be back to clearing skies and a touch cooler weather to the upcoming weekend. as far as what will happen today, 77 for a high with decreasing cloudiness and light winds. skies will be clear to partly cloudy and cooling in the 50's. -- will again in the 50's.
