the new starts now. now, abc 7 news at 11:00, on your side. kellye: first, a woman gets into a car that she mistook from uber and is sexually assaulted. this happened in northwest d.c., and roz plater is live with the latest. kellye, the police need the public's help to track down a knife wielding suspect. this is a precautionary tale about how to stay safe. the police say the bizarre attack happened 3:30 saturday morning on a residential stretch two blocks off wisconsin avenue. >> normally it's a pretty safe neighborhood. roz: the woman got into a silver four-door sedan which she mistakenly thought was an uber vehicle.

the driver then pulled out a knife and sexually assaulted her. that could so easily happen and it's so shocking. scary. we need to be aware of that. >> the fact that it happened at all is really scary. it makes you think twice. roz: the woman eventually escaped and the attacker took off with her belongings in the car. many here say they take uber frequently and follow safeguards. >> i try to make sure that the license plate matches up, that it is the same make and model because they provide that. if i waive them over, they will roll down their window and i will ask. roz: steps that will help make sure this does not happen to anybody else. >> it's really unfortunate and i hope that she is able to heal well. roz: the police have not released any other details about the vehicle. a believe the suspect is
