jay korff continues our debate night coverage from a watch party and northwest. how did it go over there? jay: it is still going on. i'm outside one of many democratic debate watch parties in the nation's capital, where democrats are thrilled that their candidates are on center candidatesuding two whose names will sound familiar. for the first time, pulling front runners hillary clinton and bernie sanders clashed on stage during the first democratic debate. but across the region, people were watching regional hopefuls like former u.s. senator jim webb of virginia. >> the highest priority will be working people. jay: and former maryland governor martin o'malley. o'malley's supporters believe that his years of executive experience will bode well for his presidential bid. backers hope that his military experience from the

vietnam war and his foreign-policy expertise from the u.s. senate will set him apart. party,ate watching people said they like what both candidates are talking about. >> the thing i liked about governor o'malley in particular, he has a record. he has done a good job in maryland. pleased as we are not talking about e-mail or benghazi, and it's more about the issues that are important to the mark in public -- gun laws, the economy, how to get people jobs. keep in mind, martin o'malley and jim webb are both pulling in the low single digits. it remains to be seen if those numbers will change coming out of tonight's debate. live in the district, jay korff, abc 7 news. alison: moving on to the other big story of the night, less than 30 minutes ago, crews may

have found the source of the water main break that floated a busy road in montgomery county. leon: traffic was a nightmare almost all evening, but the big question now, what is the morning commute going to look like? richard reeve is live in bethesda. are they going to get finished with the repair job tonight? richard: that is the big question. right now, they are digging this hole into rockville pike. then they have to get down in there and see if they can find the water main break, then fix it, then try to repair the road. that is a lot of work to be done before the morning commute. rockville pike underwater tonight. >> frustrating. i had no idea. richard: the intersection at cedar lane a watery gauntlet for drivers. >> not too much fun. not at all. richard: all of this water from

prison when he is sentenced in january. leon: the police say the victim of a deadly hit and run this morning with 62-year-old lee roy barnes. the driver is cooperating with the police. barnes was struck and killed near sargent road in northeast. the driver just kept going after hitting him. the driver has been contacted and is cooperating, but it's not clear if the driver is in custody. alison: in bladensburg, a deadly shooting just steps from a school. this happened near elizabeth seton high school. one other person was hurt. this was not a school related incident. prince george's county fire said the surviving victim is in critical condition. the prince george's county council decided to let state legislatures -- legislators tackle the issue of paid sick leave. committee hearing

today. the general assembly is expected to take up the issue in january. many had expected prince george's to follow montgomery requires employers to provide sick leave by next october. leon: an ex-girlfriend of charles severance testified today in his capital murder trial. she said that he harbored a grudge against the court system after losing custody of his child and he convinced her to that latero guns went missing. the police believe that similar guns were used in the murder of three high profile residence in virginia. alison: the statements of police officers can be used in the search gray of the riles. they said the statement should be thrown out because the officers were not read their rights before being questioned. this is viewed as a huge win for prosecutors. leon: coming up, did the police go too far detaining this teenager?

the video has been watched thousands of times online, and it's hard to watch without asking if the police went too far. alison: we are hearing what happened from a man who saw what happened before the camera started rolling. tom roussey has the story. tom: the video was shot right here at 8th and e. some are saying this was police brutality, but a witness across the street backs up part of the police account of things. video posted to twitter
