abc seven on air and online as we follow the story. will pass along updates as soon as we get them. a home destroyed and a family and morning after a deadly fire in charles county. it started just before 12:30 this morning on poplar road in waldorf. a 68 euros and her six-year-old grandson killed in that fire -- a 68-year-old and her six-year-old grandson were killed in that fire. >> this is a tragic story. a family of six inside their home this morning when fire erupted. it killed two people including a small child before firefighters had a chance to arrive. aboutrst 911 call came in 12:30 this morning but disconnected seconds after it began. >> she was screaming that someone was inside in the phone disconnected. reporter: 55 firefighters raced to the scene. >> we knew right then, we heard

her screaming on the phone. it was an emergency. reporter: flames ripped apart the p -- the prefabricated style home. four people made it out alive but a 68-year-old woman and a six-year-old boy never had a chance. this morning more than two dozen family members sat on the front lawn consoling each other as investigators sifted through the rubble feet away, trying to figure out how this fire started . one firefighter was injured battling this fire. he was taken to a local hospital but has since been released. fire investigators do not suspicious. fire autria: an update on yesterday's deadly hit and run in a district. police now say 62-year-old john lindberg was killed. originally they gave us a different name. police say lindberg was struck and killed on sargent road in northeast d.c. by two different

cars. the second help identify the driver of the first vehicle who is now cooperating with police. the philadelphia police commissioner and former d.c. police chief charles ramsey is retiring. he made the announcement this morning. it will be effective january 7. ramsey served eight years as d.c. police chief before taking the position in philadelphia in 2008 and before that he served as deputy superintendent of the chicago police department. the sun is sticking around today but cooler temperatures and moved in. chief meteorologist doug hill is here with a look at your forecast. doug: kind of cloudy outside. you saw some folks working up top roof in rosslyn. some breaks in the overcast. a break is the most we will see. sky cover at the montgomery college rockville campus. temperatures lower 60's. much.-- do not expect

expect cooler temperatures. 66 degrees at reagan national airport. 66 degrees at leesburg in frederick. as we get through the afternoon we will see this batch of the clouds. if you look up, patches of blue. if you time it right, you could see a little sunshine. most of the day, this cloudy feel and temperatures on the cool side. her tomorrow as pressure built in more strongly from the south and west, more in the way of sunshine. that is the story cloud lies. this is the visible satellite image looking down on the cloud cover. you see the striations of clouds . the wind comes across the appellations. you get far enough south you get the sunshine nothing was the baltimore you get sunshine.

most of the area will stay mostly cloudy with a few patches of blue sky. numbers wise, temperatures in the 60's and that is the best we are going to do. more to come in a few minutes. autria: we have an update. that breaking news we brought at the top of noon, the good news we had to report is that that lock-in has been lifted at tc williams high school. we'd were just reporting that school was on lock-in because police were searching the area for robbery suspect. they robbed a store on king street. everything is back to normal at the many howard campus of tc williams high school. students got a lesson in fire and road safety this morning. this picture was tweeted out by montgomery county fire and rescue. students were on their way to westland middle school when someone noticed sparks coming from the engine of the bus. the driver pulled over near connecticut avenue. another bus came to transfer the kids to school.

we want to tune to vote 2016 and a showdown on the strip. hillary showed everyone why she is the front runner. karen travers breaks down the candidates' performances. we will get to that in the second. we should also point out donald trump is on his way to virginia. he is headed to the commonwealth to hold a rally at richmond international raceway at 7:00 tonight. trump was supposed to hold a rally in virginia beach but he canceled the event after governor terry mcauliffe declared a state of emergency because of hurricane joaquin. jump says 10,000 people were expected at the event. people weres 10,000 expected at the event. one person is dead after shooting overnight in suitland. this happened on tangier place off pennsylvania avenue. we are making phone calls to

learn more about what happened but we know the victim was shot in the stomach and police say this does not appear to be random. charles severance is back in court for the fifth day of testimony in his capital murder trial. severance pleaded not guilty in the murders of three alexandria residents. special agent david hedges is on stand. bureau chief jeff goldberg is back in the courtroom as well. stay with abc seven on air and at wjla.com for the latest developments. crews are still working on repairs to yesterday's water main break in bethesda. the 74-year-old pipe burst yesterday afternoon and is expected to cause problems for commuters. the john gonzalez is live with where repairs stand right now. told two minutes ago by spokesperson that folks just got their water back on. 250 customers have their water

back on this afternoon. it has been a challenging 24 hours. this truck has been here all day, loaded with gravel waiting for the road work to begin. you can see across the street on rockville pike they are aterally starting to dig up portion of asphalt on the pike. the reason the road work was delayed was because the water main break repair this morning was also delayed in bethesda. crews are charging the line. there is still a big hole. that means they are running water through the new pipe making sure there are no more leaks because as crews excavated this morning, they replaced the pipe with these big cast-iron sleeves. they were not holding. they had to bring in bigger sleeves. now that that work is done they are starting to repair buckled rockville pike that was under water for much of the day. people just got their water back

no information released on the pilot or any passengers and the american red cross is helping the affected family. police are investigating an early morning shooting near the tennessee state university campus. police say shots were fired after a group was turned away from a party. three people were shot between 19 and 20 years old. one of the victims remains in critical condition and police are looking for the suspects. new york couple is behind bars accused of beating their son to death in a church. bruce and deborah lenard are charged with manslaughter. police say they beat their 19-year-old son lucas to death inside the word of life church in new hartford. the victim's brother was also assaulted. police have not said what happened or what prompted the attack but they say more arrests are expected. in wisconsin is ordered to pay millions to two

doug: we started with sunshine this morning and then we started to heat up. we have is broken deck of clouds . a little sun and a lot of clouds. that fall feel in the air. in annapolis maryland at u.s. naval academy. during the day, look at the clouds rolling in after a beautiful sunrise. in annapolis they will have a sky like everyone else, broken clouds and sunshine getting through. looking at annapolis there is more blue sky there than anywhere else in the metro area. 66 degrees reported at reagan national airport. columbus, indianapolis, 55 degrees. still some 70's to the south. cooler air is working in. dekes of clouds will be an impediment to the temperature rising. temperature stay in the mid to upper 60's. any sunshine, probably 70 to 72.

autria: police are trying to figure out why a man set children's halloween costumes on fire inside a california walmart. it was caught on video by a store employee. police say a 40-year-old man used charcoal lighter fluid to set the fire. employees were able to get the fire under control with an extinguisher and security held the man until police arrived. jennifer lawrence is speaking out against hollywood sexism and wage inequality.

the oscar-winner penned nsa on lena dunham's article. the 25-year-old says she wants her maled equal to colleagues. mad she says at herself for not negotiating harder. special delivery 30,000 feet in the air. amira was in the middle of a long flight when she went into labor. the plane from taiwan to los angeles was forced to make an emergency landing but the baby was not going to wait. a young doctor returning home from her honeymoon was on board and jumped in to help. they're collecting buckets and blankets and whatever things they can find on the airplane. autria: the plane landed in anchorage a half hour later with one more passenger than it started with. the baby girl and her surprised mother are both doing fine.
