this is my new career. >> the parents of a tv reporter killed on air bringing their push for new gun laws to the d.c. area. prrgs -- prince george's county police responding to a video question the to use of force. and the redskins in a loss to the jets. the news starts now. first tonight, the parents of a tv news reporter who was killed during a live broadcast pushed for tighter gun laws. alison parker and photographer adam ward were gunned down while on the air in august. this afternoon, parker's parents appeared in woodbridge to call for changes.

kevin is in the news room with the message. kevin: the parkers have put both of their careers on hold. they're now traveling the state of virginia raising awareness for their daughter's story and calling for what they and so many others call common sense gun reform. in august, someone called their daughter, allison parker, during a live tv broadcast. >> we're spending all of our time here working with candidates like jeremy that can make a difference. >> the parkers are talking about this man. volunteer firefighter turned democratic candidate for virginia senate jeremy mcpike. he says gun control is his number one priority. >> i think it's going to take leaders that aren't afraid of standing up for the families and neighborhoods and not just kowtowing to the n.r.a.

kelly: all right, kert -- robert. we'll see you a little bit later on. developing now, p united airlines investigating the mechanical problems on a mean that was headed to hawaii from d.c. last night. the airline said the plane returned shortly after takeoff due to the mechanical issues. no one was hurt and passengers were moved to another flight. and a ash an arrest in a deadly stabbing in temple hills that happened friday night on linda lavenlt it appears that an argument broke ut between leading to the stabbing. gigi thomas is being held without bond. in less than 30 minutes a individuality -- vigil for a transgender woman who was killed thursday night. abc 7 news has a crew at the

vigil. look more -- for more tonight at a11:00. new can hetails in the reafblet -- arrest of a man accused of assaulting some prince george's county police officers. the department responded to questions about the use of force after video appeared on social media the >> police identified the suspect in this video. in this 20-second clip, you see the police officers punch young in the face. but officers say what you don't see in the video is how young got there and everything that led up to this in the five and a half hours before this all unfolded. >> 20 seconds of video will never tell the whole story of any event. >> police say it all started over a traffic stop. they say young, a passenger in the car, started to get agitated with officers at the scene and he assaulted two officers and continued to reist

as he was being taken into custody. police say he was complaining he was injured, so he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated and they said he was ok. scene, ward to this where police say another officer not involved in the initial arrest was in the process of transporting the prisoner back to the area when the suspect managed to scape the cruiser while handcuffed. >> he leaned forward, the seat belt is uncliffed -- clipped, he turned in the seat and manipulated the door handle and rolled out of the 12k34r50r789 while he was there, they say the suspect continued to kick and bite and spit at the officer. >> he used force in a measured way to bring him under control. at some point the officer actually does have to deprovide his taser to stop the
