>> reporter: the video provides a rare look inside the daring nighttime raid on an isis prison. u.s. special forces teamed with kurdish fighters racing to rescue about 70 hostages just hours ahead of what would have been a mass execution. the helmet camera shows the soldiers storming the compound in northern iraq. at one point, you can see the black isis flag hanging on the wall. u.s. air strikes had cleared roads and surrounded isis reinforcements but as the team got inside the building, an intensifier fight erupted and army master sergeant joshua wheeler was wounded and later died. >> the last mission he was o there, there's 70 people that got to go home because of what he did. >> reporter: during his 20-year career in the army, wheeler earned 11 bronze stars. the mission and wheeler's death leading to questions about president obama's position that american troops will not have a combat role in iraq. the pentagon calls this an

adacia chambers, arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. she's also facing four counts of second degree murder. the district attorney says investigators believe chambers was using drugs. coworkers say chambers was sent home early from her job at this local fast food restaurant just before the crash at 10:30 in the morning. among the fatalities 65-year-old retired osu professor marvin stone and his wife bonnie, 23-year-old nikita nakal, an mba student from the nearby university of oklahoma, and 2-year-old nash lucas. his father posting on facebook, miss you so much, buddy. still everyday acts of heroism saved many lives larry williams is a high school teacher who knows first aid and didn't hesitate to use it. >> you're supposed to be responsible if you have that type of training to go ahead and try to help out. >> reporter: chambers is due in court here later today.

late on sunday, her attorney went before the microphones to say he believes his new client is mentally ill. ryan owens, abc news, stillwater, oklahoma. >> we move on to a breaking overnight tragedy that is still developing right now. the frantic search off british columbia, canada for survivors from a whale watching boat that capsized. someone on scene captured this image as the boat went down. first ronders -- reresponders rushed to a dock where some of the 27 people who were on board arrived. as of now, officials say at least five people were kid. eight were hospitalized. most of them listed this morning in stable condition. texas is recovering from a super soaker fueled by the remnants of hurricane patricia converging with another powerful storm. some areas saw more than 20 inches of pounding rain over the weekend accompanied by winds topping 50 miles an hour. ten-foot high waves and rapidly rising floodwaters quickly filled up homes, roads and cars.

but thousands of homes were damaged. abc's matt gutman got a firsthand look. >> reporter: hurricane patricia pounded mexico's coast. the rising pacific swamping towns. the winds contorting these palm trees, lopping off others. as the storm swept inland overnight friday, we traveled to the devastation zone, plowing through knee-high water. an endless convoy of trucks carving open the roads. they're cleaning up and digging out. the pacific ocean swallowed this entire town. the water was over my head. still, the strongest storm ever recorded in the western hemisphere caused significantly less damage than anticipated. mexican authorities reported not a single fatality. sliding right in between the port city of manzanillo and the tourist mecca of puerto vallarta, category five winds extending only 15 miles across. plus, it zoomed across the landscape at 20 miles per hour, too fast to damage solidly built structures of cinder block and

police say up to 10,000 guns were found in a home and warehouse. most of them were hunting rifles and shotguns. the suspect arrested in connection with the firearms a man named brent nicholson. also facing drug charges. let's turn our focus now to presidential politics and republican ben carson's controversial comments about abortion. carson says the procedure should be outlawed in almost all cases even pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. the only exception he would grant would be to save the mother's life. a situation he called extraordinarily rare and he compared women who have abortion to slave owners who thought they could anything they wanted to do to a slave. vice president joe biden revealing new details about his decision not to run for the white house. biden tells cbs news he didn't run because he didn't think he could win. as to why it took so long to reach that decision, biden says his family was still grieving the loss of his son beau, a process which could not be rushed.

he also said there's no truth to the rumor that beau made a deathbed request that his father run for president. the united autoworkers and general motors reached a tentative ingredient on a new contract. the union threatened to strike at midnight unless a deal was reached. the proposed contract covers about 53,000 workers. american drivers getting a break at the gas pump where prices are plunging. the national average price of a gallon of gas is $2.20. that's right. prices dropped nine cents over the past week. since february, they have fallen 55 cents. aaa is still predicting the national average dropping below $2 by new year's. you take the subway though. you're still excited about this. >> i do take the subway. just in time for my veterans day get away. something new on the menu at some mcdonald's locations. sweet potato fries being offered at 18 restaurants in the amarillo, texas area. the new fries are the latest menu changes at mcdonald's as it looks to continue its turn around.
