john: this afternoon fairfax water crews are digging away in the heart of falls church. take a look at the huge hole in the road. this is where a six-inch pipe ruptured at 2:00 this afternoon -- this morning and it left the entire area underwater for some time area crews are now working to make those repairs in the meantime. sometime. crews are now working on making those repairs in the meantime. on the other side, businesses out of commission, they will be losing a lot of money today. we spoke to some of these folks. >> it is not coming in in the time that we planned it. if we don't have water, we cannot do it because doing the dishes and the mops. >> we try to get out here to make the repairs quickly so that everyone can get back to business.

charles's is expected to rest their case. their new focus is a man named charles ross, who looks similar to charles severance. jeff goldberg has been following the trial from the beginning and joins us now live with the latest from the courtroom. jeff? jeff: the testimony is still going on right now from the final defense witness, a private investigator. she started testifying yesterday. we expected the testimony to wrap up yesterday but it has gone into the morning. direct questioning going on, it's possible that i could push back the schedule of the trial, but we simply don't know, we will have to wait and see. she is a private investigator for the defense. talking a lot this morning about the writing an e-mail from charles severance, he was bitter and angry in the court system after losing a custody battle for his son late in 1999. the defense really trying to underscore the point that his anger did not specify a desire to carry out murder.

the investigation of the defense questioning raising questions about daniel petrillo. this is a plumber who says that he saw charles severance near the home of ron kirby on the day of november, 2013. the private investigator said that based on research she has done, based on trees, streets, locations, it would have been difficult for mr. petrillo to specifically identify charles severance as being near the home. again, the defense really trying to raise some reasonable doubt as to whether or not anyone could specifically identify charles severance as the prime suspect in these cases. back your live now, as we were saying before the questioning of that defense investigator is still going on and we do expect to see closing arguments at some point tomorrow. the cross-examination by the examiner with a rebuttal from jury instruction could push things back. you'dl have updates for throughout the day on abc seven

the bill calls for a petition drive in support of d.c. statehood. he hopes to collect one million signatures from people across the country and then deliver them to president obama. areloping now, police releasing more information about a man found dead inside of an overturned car. that 26 euros marcus freeman was discovered inside the vehicle yesterday. his car was found in a heavily had rolled, the car down an embankment, overturned and came to arrest upside down in a pool of water. freeman was reported missing back on october 15. time for a look at the roadways. we have a check on the traffic is noon with danielle. danielle: looks like we are dealing with one incident here on the scanner, reports of an near randolph road at old columbia pike. that's the area just west of route 29. you may see some response here

shocking social media video sparking outrage this noon. have you seen it? it shows a violent confrontation between a school resource officer and a student in south carolina. the officer caught on camera, dragging the student from her desk and slamming her to the ground before arresting her. authorities are now trying to all ofout what prompted this. karen travers has the latest on the investigation. karen: a disturbing classroom confrontation involving a female student and a school resource

officer in south carolina, caught on camera. several videos of the incident going viral, after the officer who worked at spring valley high school grabbed and tossed the student. student hady the been ordered to leave the classroom but refused. the officer was called in. the officer puts his arm around her neck and wrestles her to the , apparently swinging her across the classroom. tony robinson is one of the students who recorded the incident during algebra. >> i was scared, terrified. this i wanteder to make sure was recorded. karen: as the terrified students sat at the desk, one decided to intervene. quite she was like -- you want some of this? you are going to jail to. he put me in handcuffs.
