this case, making the arrest tonight without incident. , charged withdy the murder of bonnie black, who was stabbed to death back in april inside of her home. they believed this occurred while her two young children were present, three and five years old. they are ok. the police had said fairly early on in this disturbing case that david black was a suspect. they have been working for a long time, collecting hundreds of pieces of evidence. they were waiting for dna results to come back. we expect his court appearance tomorrow. live from arlington, jay korff, abc 7 news. it is on thousands of fields across the country, including at least 50 public school facilities in our area. in-fillk crumb rubber that comes home stuck to your kids uniforms or cleats may be dangerous. leon: joce sterman discovered

major health concerns about the turf, including questions about why federal studies are not being done even though experts wonder if crumb rubber could have a link with cancer. as a college and professional keeper, steve lord hath his life learning the goal. he is concerned about protecting his kids. and athletes like him. >> i would like to be part of the solution in moving forward in parks and other facilities, moving away from crumb rubber. joce: crumb rubber is essentially shredded tires used on thousands of athletic fields across the country, including this one in fairfax county. as its use spreads across the country, so to the questions about the potential impact on health. especially for somebody like powers, who spent years diving onto crumb rubber before getting cancer. >> it turns out that the fields that i used to play on and coach on were a factor in me getting

cancer. that is a tough pill to swallow. amy griffin, soccer coach at the university of washington, is keeping a list that includes more than 160 people, including 80 goalies like powers. they all have one thing in common -- they played sports on crumb rubber fields and they got cancer. >> we are dealing with a very small sample. millions of people have played on and used synthetic turf. turf councilthetic points to several studies that say crumb rubber is not a hazard. evidence not seen any it is a problem. evidencetics say the has been piecemeal. no copperheads a federal study has ever evaluated the health impact of crumb rubber. you think the federal government has failed on this issue? >> absolutely. joce: the president of

environmental and human health has been fighting for a crumb rubber ban since 2006. >> we said give us 10 years and we will start to see cancer. joce: a recent yale study looked findingr tire infill, 96 chemicals, known carcinogens, and chemicals with risks. >> the government at both federal and state levels have toowed a cancer experiment affect a whole generation of children and athletes. >> it's enough to make you cry. the first reaction is we missed it, we do not fight hard enough. joce: the fight is changing. in a congressional hearing this summer, the consumer products safety administration stepped back from statements on crumb bber, stepping back and saying it is ok to play on. >> i don't think we should have conveyed that. joce: the cpsc once more

testing, but it has not been done. >> why should any county be left to their own devices. this is science. that is beyond what we can do. joce: montgomery county recently announced it will no longer provide public funding for crumb rubber fields. fairfax county schools went all-in, installing synthetic turf at every high school in the district. although they would not talk why,7 on your side about referring us instead to scientific studies. >> we need to take a hard look at this. i'm shocked they are dragging their feet not doing so. how can they not? joce: joce sterman, abc 7 news. alison: the state of california and epa are working on a study that experts believe will be the most comprehensive. epa previously studied crumb rubber, but it was not a comprehensive look. last week congress sent a letter to epa asking questions about

36-year-old hollis johnson. >> he was my best friend, but he was best friends with so many people. richard: a year ago, he was gunned down in his chillum apartment building. the police believe he had unsuspectingly held the door for his killer. >> his first thoughts were probably not something is up. >> they say that it was so fast in the door was broken, so we don't know. richard: the authorities have released surveillance video of the suspect and his getaway car. a believe robbery was the motive. robbery was the motive. this vigil at westgate elementary school where at eight years old he learned to play basketball. >> it just grew into a friendship. richard: a fitting tribute to a life lost. >> i believe something will come up at some time in we will know who did this horrible thing.

tough to think that johnson walked through these very doors as a youngster. after a year-long investigation, the authority still have no suspects. if you have information, call prince george's county police. live in manassas, richard reeve, abc 7 news. leon: new tonight, more than 100 arrests in prince george's county. several law enforcement agencies conducted a sweep targeting suspects in domestic violence crimes. the authorities knocked on 400 doors. they arrested 124 people, and now 146 outstanding warns are closed. alison: this was sony is taking new steps to help new moms, starting a new lactation policy to give workers more space and privacy to pump breastmilk -- at the smithsonian. the smithsonian says the policy will be fully implemented at the end of next month. leon: something that appears to be a racial slur that was

supposed to be a celebratory shirt, but the stafford county school district is not laughing about this. girls are wearing a shirt that appears to show the n-word. that shirt is standing for racing, which we do not believe in or tolerate. leon: the shirts also say "we referencean apparent to a song. the school district said they would not approve of the type of language in that photo. still ahead -- sat scores delayed. what is holding up the results. tom: the tsa has made changes that could lead to you standing in line longer. alison: built-in protection? hospitals blocking infections.

consumer news for air travelers. no more cutting in line for security. alison: the tsa is cutting back on a pre-check program, which could mean a longer line for your next trip. tom roussey has how the change could impact us. good evening. if you have flown recently from or bwi, you may have noticed longer lines. this, the tsa pre-check program. basically it let you get through the security line to get to your flight faster. are still going to be able to do it if you pay $85 for five years and qualify. in the past, folks have been able to do it for free. that has largely been done away with. one passenger is not happy to hear that. >> i think it was fine being free. i don't think we should have to pay to go through security. that's what i think. post"the washington

reports this is already led to slightly longer lines at airports. the tsa says this is about improving security at airports. tom roussey, abc 7 news. alison: thank you, tom. sat scores are critical, of course, for getting into college, but i pulled up his leaving some students in limbo. there has been a delay delivering scores to some schools. the collegeut to board, who said the majority of scores have been delivered, but it says they are reaching out to colleges with early decision deadlines and encouraging them to be flexible if the scores arrive late. tonight, george washington university says it will not penalize students if there scores arrive late. leon: 7 on your side with health matters and how a hospital fall may fight infection. that's right, they are inventing a paint that kill surface bacteria. it has been certified by the

epa, still being tested. they say that the paint products can kill 99.9% of bacteria after two hours of exposure on it surfaces. alison: coming up monday, 7 on your side is putting more contractors to our hidden camera test. in the spring you might remember it was electricians. now we are seeing if plumbers can fix a simple leak and how much it could cost you to get the leak stopped. troubleshooter horace holmes and his team rented a home in d, filling it with hidden cameras, and then they watched to see how seven plumbers that we hired would handle the problem. >> when i came it was leaking. horace: and it was leaking underneath. >> i could not get it tight. alison: some surprising results. we will have information that is really important as you will know what questions to ask before you hire a contractor.
