after the jury delivered recommendation for three life-sentence term we heard the family members of the victims and from the lead prosecutor. >> now that he is found guilty we can start to mourn. it will never compensate the loss or bring back our lovedded ones. >> the rein of the alexandria assassin is over. at long last the defendant has been held accountable and exposed for what he is. a cowardly murderer. jeff: the parents of charles severance said nothing leaving court but sam severance put out a statement earlier saying that the family respects the jury's verdict. they expressed the deepest sympathy for family of the victim and the severance family is strong and will continue on. appeal of the verdict is expected. we tried to speak to the jurors but they had nothing to

say. the lead prosecutor said the moment that turned it into their favor, he feels that the testimony, the care-taker of the lodato family stood on the witness stand and identified charles severance in court as the shooter, he felt it was a key moment in getting the prosecution to the point where they got today. charles severance found guilty of all charges. the official stensing will take place on january 22. live in fairfax, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. maureen: thank you, jeff. now three murders happened in different part of alexandria. for years they left the community on edge. brianne carter has more on what the local residents had to say after the verdict was read. brianne: in the time that the crimes were happening many residents in this community changing their habits on a daily basis. many of them would go out and walk their dogs but they would stop doing that. so now, for some, relief comes as word of the verdict.

with serious burn injuries. maureen? maureen: breaking news tonight this time from tennessee avenue in northeast washington. that is where two people have been reported shot. roz plater joins us from the scene. what happened? roz: a mystery is unfolding here. investigators are focused on the house behind me in the 200 block of tennessee avenue northeast where a man and a woman found shot in critical condition. no update on them but we know that the homicide investigators have been called in. a lot of neighbors are coming home and finding the yellow tape in the neighborhood and are surprised. as soon as we get information on what has happened we'll bring it to you.

the clearing skies develop. under high pressure developing north. the future cast is pushing the rain farther south. a lot of sunshine tomorrow but the temperatures are milder. at least 70 degrees in the afternoon. tuesday and wednesday, we will stay clear. wednesday will warm up to the lower 70's. the clouds will linger south along with the showers. by thursday we may have a chance of a passing sprinkle or a shower. it's cooler with more cloud cover. by friday we have the warmest day of the week. we could hit 76. 77 degrees on friday with the partly sunny skies. the forecast tomorrow, mostly sunny and warm. near 70 degrees. as we head through next seven days warming to 72 on wednesday. thursday we talk about more clouds. sprinkle or a spotty shower. cooler and we surge in the mid70's. saturday a cold front will give us showers. 50's on sunday. back to sunshine by monday. that is it.

erin: the redskins' bye week is over and it was back to business today at redskins park. the players hit the practice field earlier as they prepare for the undefeated patriots at new england sunday. while washington and philadelphia were both off last week, if redskins sure did get help from the other n.f.c. east rivals this weekend. both the cowboys and the giants lost on late game field goals on sunday. here is how the n.f.c. east looks this week. giants lead the division at 4-4 followed by the redskins and eagles at 3-4. the struggling cowboys are 2-5. what do the players think? it depends who you ask. >> i was having a blast. not good if you see teams gaining on you or get ahead of you. >> i don't like the standard. it's like the b.c.s. thing. we just need to go play football and it will take care of itself. erin: moving on to the ravens.
