hurt during a rampage by a naked man. plus, chaos at a wendy's restaurant. and an fbi agent charged with punching him. and election night. we are following the races that matter to you, next. news at 11:00, on your side. a naked manst, attacks officers, then sets his home on fire. alison: eight fairfax county police officers are recovering from their injuries and a man is in custody. leon: jay korff is live for the bizarre incident happened. jay, what in the world happened? leon, it all unfolded in the stairwell. veryan, who was acting strange, tried to light his apartment on fire by putting

stuff into his oven. naked, camet he was out and attacked officers, dragging one of them down the stairwell, but he was apprehended. it's hard to know what was mindng through the man's when he ran outside of his fairfax apartment and attacked multiple police officers. >> the grounds were blocked off. jay: this resident witness the chaos. she said that hussani white tossed a television and a door screen from a fourth floor apartment. the police were called. when they arrived, white ran outside naked and assaulted officers on the stairwell, even dragging an officer down a flight of stairs. pepper spray eventually subdued white. officers also ran inside and extinguished a fire. variouslaced

electronics into the oven and set it on fire. officers then helped evacuate residents. eight officer sustained minor injuries, including burns and smoke inhalation, but this 26-year-old suspect was in custody. >> they are above and beyond what anyone can imagine. they come in and they are able to handle whatever the situation is, and they did just that. thankfully, those officers are all expected to make full recoveries. the suspect is in jail. jay korff, abc 7 news. breaking news from southeast washington, wore a prisoner in custody of special police officers has died. this happened on good hope road sunday. the officers arrived and found alonzo smith handcuffed by special police officer, unconscious and not breathing. d.c. police are investigating what happened.

breaking, d.c. police say the man shot near the intersection of benning road and southeast has died. nobody is in custody at this hour. if you have information, d.c. police want to talk with you. faces aan fbi agent decade in prison for punching a teenager. it happened when the 15-year-old intervened during an argument. actions, defended his saying he felt threatened. a montgomery county jury found him guilty of second-degree assault, and he will be sentenced in january. leon: charles severance may spend the rest of his life in prison when he is sentenced for three murders. with a trial behind them, the victims families are looking to the future. one of ruthanne lodato's daughters work with us here at abc 7. >> i think we all breathed a

sigh of relief when we heard that 10 guilty's. >> a lot of people have helped us through this difficult time. leon: the jury recommended three life sentences for charles severance, who will be sentenced officially in january. alison: terrifying moments during the lunch hour when a car slammed into a wendy's in chantilly. three people were hurt, but they are expected to be ok. the police are trying to figure out what led up to this crash. tom roussey is live at the scene with the latest. what can you tell us, tom? despite the damage, they have been able to reopen. iraqi leslie, the drive-through by 10 a.m. tomorrow, they are planning to open this half of the restaurant. over here they will not be up to reopen because they have a lot of work to board up where the car came in.

this is what it looked like this afternoon. it was during the lunch hour, with 20, 30 people inside at the time. three customers were sitting very close to the window. they were hit and taken to the hospital. folks at the restaurant said that one of them was very banged up, but their injuries are not life-threatening. as far as the driver, the manager says he is a regular customer. the restaurant believes that he just made a mistake while driving. one employee told us what it was like when the car crashed. curb, ran intoe the glass wall, and not three customers that were eating onto the ground. this is freddie. he and his partner, elmer, have been working hard to board up the front of the restaurant. inside, they are expecting to

the results are scrolling at the bottom of the screen. we will also keep you posted at wjla.com. team coverage with richard reeve watching the alexandria mayor's race. we will start with the big headline of the night, republicans projected to keep control of the virginia state senate. mike carter-conneen is in woodbridge with a look at that tight race. mike? leon, democrats are watching the race results, anxious for the local races. a line celebration and mixed emotions. all republican incumbents winning their senate seats at the state level, and republicans winning an open seat in richmond , senate district 10. here in senate district 29, it was a teeter totter, the firefighter ultimately beating hal parrish for the senate seat. they were vying for the seat held by charles hogan, who is retiring after 40 years.
