from abc news, this is "world news now." >> we do say good morning to you on this thursday morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm reena ninan. strong implications of terrorism in that air disaster in egypt. >> this after intelligence officials are now saying the russian jet that broke apart mid-air and crashed in the egyptian desert was likely brought down by a bomb. the british took immediate action spending all of its flights to and from the sinai peninsula. then the irishollowed suit. for from abc's brian ross. >> reporter: counterterrorism officials tonight say new intelligence makes them believe it was more likely that a bomb, not a mechanical issue, brought down the russian jetliner. seen in this new video taken moments after the crash. >> we have concluded that there is a significant possibility that that crash was caused by an explosive device on board the aircraft. >> reporter: officials in egypt say investigators are looking

for evidence that passengers in the back of the plane may have had injuries from an explosion includining shrapnel in their bodies as indication where a bomb might have been hidden. an isis connected group within hours said it was responsible. now the group has become the prime suspect and they have posted a second claim of responsibility. the russian flight left saturday from the sharm el-sheik airport in egypt where all flights to and everyone britain were the suspended after british officials. said they found extremely lax security there. >> terror groups working in the region have been working extremely hard to develop explosives that can be smuggled on to an airplane undetected. >> reporter: as u.s. and british officials demonstrated small amounts of explosives can cause cas catastrophic damage to a fuselage be. >> the aircraft would pull apart.

>> passenger planes remain a prime target of terrorists. a bomb brought down pan am 103 in '88 killing 270 people. al qaeda has since tried unsuccessfully with bombs hidden in underwear, a shoe and prettier cart ridges. for u.s. authorities, the concern is whether terrorists have developed a new explosive that can not be can detected by standard security procedures what they call the nightmare scenario. brian ross, abc news, new york. >> this really is a big deal. nearly a million british tourists visit egypt every year. the decision to ground the uk flights has left up to 20,000 of them stranded in sharm el sheikh. officials are now working to get them home on other flights. the government is advising against nonessential travel to that airport. now to the violence in this country. a five-hour standoff is over in san diego. xwunman and police officers shutting down streets and schools. incoming flights at the airport were also canceled. it ended when he surrendered. police say the incident began inside the apartment of the gunman's ex-girlfriend. >> also in california, a little bit further upstate, college student is dead and four people were stabbed. it happened on the smallest and quietest campus of the university of california system. abc's brandi hitt with these esdetails. >> there's a shooting, stabbing at uc-merced. >> chaos on the campus in central california. four people stabbed as officers rushed ot scene. >> i'm trying not to panic. i saw there was someone laying on the floor. >> it all happened around 8:00 a.m. near a classroom. police say a male student with a knife stabbed two fellow students and a staff member into the blade was about like that. >> john price says that's when his son byron a construction worker nearby rushed in and was also stabbed in the stomach.

and justin and everybody gave props to that into look at that performance with j.t. who is a tennessee boy. he joined him on stage and this was the performance that was getting a lot of buzz. why? >> it was so pure. it was blues. it was r & b. it was country. it was a little bit of americana if you think about it. it's all these different musical genres put together and executed beautifully. >> i want to mention carrie underwood tweeted her mom texted her after the performance and said i loved the opening but i'm sorry, i don't know the song that justin sang tonight. >> c't argue with mom. winning a very big prize, entertainer of the year. luke bryan. he's at the absolute top of his game right now. >> absolutely. 14 number one songs, 7 million albums. earlier this summer, he beat dr. dre with his album.

where does he go from here? i think it's possibly going the pop route like taylor swift or keying urban or blake shelton who have crossed over to television and become megastars. the sky's the limit for luke. >> you can't talk country music without miranda lambert. she won female vocalist of the year. she performed a killer -- her performance basically brought home the fact that country is the new rock 'n' roll. but yet, everybody, of course, was talking about what's going on with the breakup and you know the news breaking of blake and his new paramore. miranda is tremendously talented. this was her sixth win pore female vocalist of the year. she was up for entertainer of the year. that was huge. >> blake was in attendance.
