4:07 pm
and the other concerns. today he made the position known denying the application by a canadian company to build a 1200 plus mile pipeline to bring oil south across the middle of the country. the president contended it wouldn't do much to lower gas prices or create long-term jobs. environmental groups today loudly cheered this decision saying it is a "day of celebration." >> president president obama: for years the keystone pipeline occupied what i consider an overinflated role in the american discourse. america is a leader in taking action to fight climate change. scott: now republicans call this disappointing and emparissing. a lot of strong words there staying this is a political move to favor liberal environmentalists. but some democrats are critical, too. including maryland senator steny hoyer who said they could have addressed this and take care of the concerns and

4:16 pm
said that she is a big fan of whoopi goldberg's movies. jonathan: well, it has been a year since maryland voters elected larry hogan as governor. that was surprising in a republican for a state of a wide majority of registered democrat. tonight in baltimore the governor is going to celebrate with the supporters at 7:00. alison: well, "7 on your side" now with a consumer alert. toyota is investing $1 billion in artificial intelligence. it's not all going to vehicles. the five-year investment will create a state-of-the-art lab in silicon valley. and another near m.i.t. in addition to driverless car they are working an robotic for home, factories and healthcare as well. jonathan: i don't know how i feel about arability -- a robot driving a car. let's talk to jamie sullivan about what is happening on friday afternoon. jamie: a low go. we are going to start with the traffic on the inner loop of the beltway. i feel like the inner loop has
4:17 pm
been an issue every afternoon. today it continues. let's move to the map and talk about why we are so slow near connecticut avenue. this delay starting in tyson continuing through virginia on the american legion bridge. through maryland as you get to silver springs. past this point at the university boulevard we have an accident. you get a little bit of a break and then you are slowing again from 95 continuing closer to greenbelt. an earlier crash that caused about a ten-mile backup from bethesda because we have the crash before the baltimore-washington parkway. that is gone. but again we have the slowing as well heading southbound on 95. you can see here on the outer loop of the beltway approaching kenilworth avenue where we had an earlier crash. traffic is getting looser. it was slow from route 4. the top side of the beltway will take you an hour to great from 270 to 95. then in d.c., normal slowing. again the inner loop of the beltway is the big issue this afternoon. back to you.

4:19 pm

doug: she could be at the costa mesa mall. alison: so true. what about the record? doug: we talk about the reagan national airport. it's the official reporting station from washington, d.c. period. it doesn't matter what happens. only happens there. so the record in washington was 78. we hit 80. look at the temperatures at this hour. the gusterly winds are continuing to bring in the mild air. 78 in arlington at the army-navy country club. a beautiful view. the clouds will come and go but there are more cloudiness ahead of the cold front. 26-mile-per-hour gusts in

4:27 pm
idea. kidd: there were several celebrities here today at the childrens national. i'm kidd o'shea, abc7 news. jonathan: coming up here on "abc7 news at 4:00" -- half a high school caught in a sexting scandal. half! you won't believe the long lasting trouble they could be in. alison: plus, if you had a grand opening or a ground breaking, odds are the mayor was there. abc7's sam ford was on hand for the jam-packed day in d.c. we will let you know how many events she attended with diabetes, steady is exciting. only glucerna has carbsteady, clinically proven to help minimize blood sugar spikes. so you stay steady ahead.

"7 on your side" fighting back investigator jennifer donelan will have the story for us later. but right now she has a.t.s. senior special agent tom facen in the studios to discuss the efforts. jennifer: thank you for joining us. we talk about this and we have seen the murder number in d.c. rise. they are the highest they have been since 2010. we lost 136 people in the city. the majority of those homicides are to guns. armed robberies, we have over 1,000 armed robberies with a gun. a lot of people and families asking where are the guns coming from. you are with the a.t.f. and this is part of what you do. what are you finding?
4:31 pm
>> washington, d.c. is what we call a market city. it's a place where the need for guns and the desire for the fire averages but where the guns are not readily sold. it abuts two market states in maryland, the primary source of firearms with the city. north carolina and south carolina, further down 95. jennifer: right now, take your attention to what you are seeing on the screen. these are the gun, your a.t.f. agents pulled off the d.c. streets. that is serious fire power. >> absolutely. we had the weapons from shotguns. we had something that might look like a rifle but is a long-handle pistol. a long barrel pistol. we had that. and we have multiple handguns, pistols, revol everrers. jennifer: are you seeing automatic weapons? >> not automatic. that is a man gun. but an assault weapon.

4:33 pm
guns that you are finding on the d.c. streets. they are not purchased yesterday. and show up in a homicide if you are lucky enough to find the gun at that point. but they are older, aren't they? >> it's a statistic that is 13 years old but that is an odd skew to it. there could be a number of guns that are 60 years old. that throws off the skew, throws off the average. the multiple average is five or six years ago. but they could have been purchased days before they are part of a crime scene. jennifer: we appreciate your work. a.t.f. is the only organization approved to run this on the guns. we have a special on abc7 news at 11:00. "7 on your side" special. we'll sit down with the grieving families and we will sit down with tom to talk about where the guns are coming from. we will meet with the tough of police. we ask tough questions. you will find it interesting about who has the guns.
