international flights heading here. at dulles we ran into robert wood a u.s. ambassador to switzerland. >> i feel comfortable getting on an international flight. jeff: ambassador wood went to geneva without hesitation. >> i'm not saying people shouldn't think about it but i think the authorities are doing everything they can to make sure we have a safe journey. jeff: each passenger we spoke to on an international flight said they had been thinking about russian disaster heading up to today's trip but they also believe the heightened security will keep american-bound flights safe. jeff goldberg, abc7 news. leon: with all the increased airport security we need to warn you about a drill planned for this weekend. 11:30 tomorrow night, multiple law enforcement agencies will be conducting an emergency drill at reagan national airport. it will run until 1:30 a.m. sunday. and likely will include a lot of police,fire, and other emergency vehicles. maureen? maureen: after days of unusually high temperatures the weather seems to be changing. just as we head to the

now, new at 6:00. infamous northwest mansion appeared to be headed to new owners. the home where savvas savopoulos, his wife, son and housekeeper were killed is off the market now. it's a surprise because it wasn't on the market for long. stephen: the house has been uninhabited since may. you can still see signs of the fire that tore through it. last night it went under contract. a home so grand many referred to it as a mansion. a killer torched it after four grisly murders. it's a burned up shell now but still a desirable property. >> that location is also one of the few where you have not only a large house but also a large property attached to it. stefs the home where savvas savopoulos, his wife amy, son phillip and the housekeeper vera figueroa were murdered

maureen: the man who put the capitol in lockdown men he landed a gyrocopter on the west lawn is ready to plead guilty.

florida postal worker doug hughes said he will plead guilty to operating a gyrocopter without a license. a plea deal will reduce his prison time from three years to about 10 months behind bars. hughes says he plans a stunt to protest campaign finance laws. leon: they died while on a mission to help others. now a maryland medivac crew is remembered. memorial unveiled today for the crew of trooper 2 who died in a crash in 2008. the memorial was low dated -- is located in batter mill regional -- walter mill regional park. it honors the pilot, the paramedic and the e.m.t. who all died in the crash. one patient on board also died. another survived. maureen: president obama rejected the proposed keystone x.l. pipeline today saying it wouldn't serve the nation's interest and would undercut u.s. efforts to combat climate change. president obama: if we want to prevent the worst effects of

if result is no surprise for those who use i-66 every day. leon: slow going for seven hours and 15 minutes on average every day. maureen: they are responding to commuter complaints about slow-going. in wednesday evening's rush hour a presidential motorcade shut down the beltway causing hours of delays. the president was on the way to a fundraiser. in a statem the secret service says it strives to have the least impact on traffic but there are occasions we cause inconveniences to the general public due to necessary security measures. leon: two senators are taking action days after we told you about a link between cancer

and the crumb rubber on the field that the kids play on. what they are asking for could settle the debate. the i-team investigator joce sterman first started reporting on this last week. she is here now to explain. joce: senator richard blumenthal has kids on his own. four of them. when he was attorney general of connecticut he demanded testing of the crumb rememberer. he wanted -- crumb rubber. he wanted to find out if they were safe when they kick up the crumbs on the field they are playing on and now he wants the feds to do the same testing. adds the goalie, steve finds the perfect moment to strike. he is used to waiting. but doesn't think he should have to when it comes to answer about the illness that put him on the sideline. >> we are not saying it's important yet. when is it important. joce: he is 160 athletes on a growing list questioning whether they link to crumb rememberer and the cancer for the peeleds they play on.

two u.s. senators are demanding them. >> it's way past time. >> they sent the consumer safety product a letter to ask for immediate testing of the crumb infill. >> do you believe there is a link between crumb rubber and cancer? >> there are carcinogens in the material. >> the counsel says more than 50 studies shown no evidence of harm. but only a comprehensives look can settle the debate. joce: they need to know how many people are impacted. they are asking for the centerrers for disease control to track the cnacer cases linked to crumb. steve powers wants that to

mild. we will have them whattest temperatures today. waking up to temperatures 62. 59 in aspen hills. 62 in dale city. we will see temperatures fall in the day as the cooler temperatures from the west to the northwest roll in. there are showers in west virginia. if the cold front moves as expected then by 8:00, it:00, 10:00 in the morning all the showers are out of the area. if tomorrow morning you are outside and it's raining that means that the front slowed down some. but in any case, through the afternoon at the latest the skies will start to clear. there is still a lot rain coming down but that will roll through and the temperatures
