>> now, abc 7 news at noon, on your side. >> police are investigating a suspicious death in alexandria. a woman walking her dog found a body at beverley park this morning. jeff goldberg is live at the scene now with what we know about this death. >> still a lot of answers to be questioned, but this does remain a active -- an active investigation. we are by beverley park. you can see investigators still on the scene.

they have been here for hours after the body was found this one. alexandria police say someone walking in the park discovered the body of an adult male in beverley park. we are told by neighbors it was in the area by the playground inside the park. all we are told is the man died of upper body trauma. but no specifics about the actual death. the park is known as an area called the pit because it sits an old gravel pick surrounded by hills on all sides. the park is frequented by families, children, and walkers all the time, which is why this news is so alarming. >> i am shocked. this is not the kind of neighborhood where you expect this to happen. our kids play their. our kids ride the bike on the street. very shocked and upset. >> investigators still on the scene. the police chief was on the scene earlier today. that is a common occurrence when a conspicuous death

lives of dozens of people. morning, i0 in the had the hope of talking to him. prince george's county police say around 5:00 in the afternoon sunday, a man driving a white pickup truck struck a car off chillum road. the driver stopped briefly and then sped off traveling several hundred feet before crossing the centerline and crashing into a 15-passenger church van packed with children and adults. it burst into flames with many trapped inside. one neighbor grabbed a hose. others came with fire extinguishers. her grandparents were on the van coming from church. >> we heard the news. but we never thought that was my parents. >> the deeply religious couple was inseparable, married 50 years. they leave behind a children and 30 grandchildren. she was a daddy's girl.

>> sometimes, i think he is alive. it is hard. >> four people are dead, including a child. number ofnoon, the fatalities could rise as eight others are critically injured. half of them children. the driver of the pickup truck died. police have not ruled out alcohol as a factor. an investigation is ongoing. >> i hope god forgives him. >> jeannette reyes, abc 7 news. two youngw this noon, kids in police custody accused of abducting siblings and threatening them with a knife. this happened yesterday. anne arundel county police say the 12 and 14-year-old suspects took the young girl and boy from a playground and held them in a nearby barn. they say the suspects threatened to burn the victims and waved a knife at them. the boys only took off when they heard other kids came looking

for missing siblings. police identified the suspects and they are now in juvenile facilities. two americans are among the three killed in a please shooting in jordan -- police shooting in jordan. a jordanian policeman opened fire at a compound near the capital city. two other americans and four jordanians were injured. the gunman was shot and killed in the violence. this happened at a facility for training security forces. shooting is being investigated as a crime. police are searching for the gunman in a deadly shooting outside of new york city's busy penn station this morning around 6:15. one person was killed, two others rest of the hospital in serious condition. sources tell the associated press it started with an argument down from the subway entrance. police say all three victims have a long history of mostly drug-related arrests. the midtown manhattan station is one of the nation's busiest transit hubs.

right now, president obama is meeting with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu in the oval office. it is the first meeting between the leaders since the iran nuclear deal. those close to netanyahu say the trip is an effort to repair relations with obama and democrats. tomorrow, the prime minister will speak at the center for american progress, a liberal think tank. taking a live look outside, you want to keep the umbrella handy. we are tracking rain for the evening commute. let's head over to chief meteorologist doug hill. doug: right now, cloudy and cool with light wind. rain is on the way. 100% chance. it looks like sunset for the arrival time. let's start the time-lapse. a patch of blue early on. that has faded. what we have instead is cloudy skies now. that is areawide and will continue to be that way through

morning in time for the morning commute. it will taper off tomorrow afternoon. we will look ahead for the rest of the week and take a look at the weekend in a few minutes. jummy: thank you. to a big story now. in the last hour, we learned the university of missouri president has stepped down after protests from student and faculty members amid escalating racial tensions on that campus. sam sweeney has the latest from the newsroom. >> the situation reached the tipping point in the last hour during an emergency meeting with the governing board. tim wolfe said he would step down effecve immediately. overnight, students called for a walk out. dozens of football players threatened to boycott next weekend's game. that would have cost the school about $1 million in fines. one graduate student has been on a hunger strike for eight days. this comes after racist incidents on campus and president tim wolfe's response,

or some say lack thereof. swastikas were painted on walls. students have protested on campus and demanded what they call real change. now, it appears the presidt got the point. >> please use this resignation to heal, not to hate. let's move forward together for a brighter tomorrow. >> right now, there is no word on who will replace wolfe. jummy: thank you for the update. parking prices are about to go up in one of the most popular areas in the district. the pricing could cost you $8 a spot. john gonzalez looks at where and when the price change takes effect. >> $8 an hour to park in chinatown. it looks like we will have to go digging for more change. supply and demand. we know what has happened in chinatown through the years. it has become the city's new downtown.

if you use quarters to pay or use a credit card, we will be paying peak prices during peak hours. when the wizards and capitals are playing at the verizon center, we will pay the fee rises even if we are not at the game. city officials say the idea is to reduce traffic in the area. they say according to studies, 25% is cars circling looking for parking spaces. critics, including aaa, argue charging fees based on demand prices out low income residents and discourages people from parking in the city. >> i am all for trying to reduce driving as much as possible and trying to reduce congestion. but sometimes people cannot take the metro. >> i think if you are a business owner downtown and want turnover and customers to visit your location, i think overall it could be a good program. >> with the new search price plan, these bike shares might

become more popular downtown. city officials say if this pilot program is a success, it will spread throughout all of deceit -- d.c. john gonlez, abc 7 news. jummy: orange and silver line trains will now stop along with blue line trains. in september, a fire damaged a substation that supplies electricity to the third rail in that area. after the fire, only blue line trains stopped at the station during certain times of the day. the restoration of normal service is possible because of emergency upgrades. it is time to take a check on how the roadways are looking this noon. let's head over to jamie sullivan for a look at traffic. >> traffic is not bad. i want to begin with metro. you just updated us. the origins over lines on time -- the orange and silver lines are on time.

>> you are watching abc 7 news at noon, on your side. jummy: a six-year-old louisiana boy will be laid to rest today. killed by police officers who fired into his father's vehicle. those officers have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. his father was wounded in the shooting. investigators say it is unclear why the officers were chasing him to begin with. authorities are still searching for the person who shot and wounded a texas judge. the travis county district judge was ambushed and shot friday night in the driveway outside her home in austin. she is in stable condition. she is a former prosecutor. investigators are looking into whether or not someone was retaliating against her, but they cannot rule out the possible he the attacker did not even know who she was. we are on your side with a

problem draining district resources and calling into question safety in the capital. september, a resident died when no end were available to respond to the call. similar stories where d are areavailable -- ambulances not available in emergencies are becoming more common. they say the main reason is the system is being abused by people who call with nonemergencies. there anybody you have responded to so many times that you know who they are? >> yes. >> that you would arrive and called them by name? >> yes. 7 on your side i-team dug into the way people are using ambulances. coming up, our report will show you how fire and e.m.s. is working with area hospitals to address that problem. now to the race for the white house.

the republican candidates are preparing for tomorrow night's debate in milwaukee. for the first time, new jersey governor chris christie and mike huckabee will not appear in the primetime debate. instead, they will appear in the undercard debate. christie said it is no big deal. chris christie: it does not mean much as long as i perform well. if i do a good job tomorrow night, you will be talking about me wednesday morning. jummy: donald trump's appearance on "saturday night live" pulled in big numbers despite mixed reviews. the show had its highest ratings in nearly four years. time to get a check of the recast now. a decent day, t rain on the way? doug: cloudy, cool, leaves falling off the trees. rain is on the way. it looks like it will hold off closer to sunset, which is 5:00 the way. the sun will set at 5:00 or earlier every day until january. shorter daylight.

jummy: lufthansa airline canceled nearly 1000 flights today because of a flight attendant. strike the german airline said the strike is affecting more than 100,000 passengers worldwide. the only departing flight from dulles has not been canceled. it is scheduled to leave for frankfurt later this evening. authorities say they have to wait at least three more days to pull 15 cars from a massive sinkhole in the parking lot of the restaurant. it happened over the weekend at a new i hopped in mississippi. after two weeks of heavy rains, a large string collapsed and opened up this 50-foot wide gash nearly 50 feet long. this is real video. incredibly, no one was injured in all of this. the former pastor is slamming starbucks this noon for holiday coffee cups. these cups are plain red without christmas ornaments used in the past.
