heartache for a community engulfed in sorrow. we learned an expectant mother on the church van involved in a horrific crash lost her child. it killed four others and i juried 14 others this past weekend. maryland bureau chief is live at the scene with the latest details. brad bell. brad, this is so sad. brad: this was a horrific crash. among the worst that many of the first responders had seen. among the worst i have seen. tonight we can see the physical evidence of the damage. over here, a hub cap from one of the vehicles. over here a headlight assembly. it is easy to see the physical damage. as you said tonight we are learning more about the people involved. the church had nearly half the congregation on board. from babies to seniors.

this happened out here on chillum road. a pickup truck headed westbound. has an accident with a cadillac, a couple hundred yards up the way. it drives on for some reason. the church van see the boeing the pickup truck. the pickup truck driver was killed on the spot in the van. two seniors 75 and 73 years old were killed. the 6-year-old child was also killed. now wi learn that a pregnant woman on board lost her baby after emergency surgery that did save her life. so much sadness tonight. as we said, this was a small church. 30 to 40 members. most of them were immigrants. on board the van nearly half of the congregation.

we are looking into why the truck did not stop. we are told that there may be suspicions about the driver being impaired but they can't know that. likely until the results to the autopsy came in. the church group gathered in prayer. many saying that is all they can do. brad bell. leon: i will use some animation to help you visualize what brad described about what happened on the road. it was traveling toward each other but on the on sid sides. it crashed in the van head on. that is when it caught fire. people jumped into action.

some jumped in the van. others called 911. >> when i saw the kids in the front yard, it hurt me to my heart. i dialed 911 and said you need to get more ambulances here. it's worse than probably was called in. >> the neighbors tell us speeding has been a problem on the stretch for years but no word whether or not the speeding convicted to this crash. "7 on your side" will continue to push for answers on this case. of course we will let you know what we find and bring you new information about the crash and the survivors' recoveries. maureen leon, prince george's county police are looking for a person who hit a school bus in oxon hill jumped out of their car and ran away. it happened at 10:45 at the corner of oxon hill. no children on the school bus. two adults were not hurt. leon: all right. the storm watch weather team is keeping busy to track a lot of rain in the area.

it is already raining on the evening commute. doug: we have a large area of rain that is going to move ahead overnight. a light rain and arlington the area of yellow show the moderate rainfall. that is pushing in the direction. the storm center off the coast of south carolina. the thunderstorms will remain offshore. the best news is it should taper off tomorrow morning. but it's kelly. 40 west of town. low 50's elsewhere adds the winds train direction a ninetive bit.

50 in german town and gaithersburg. 51 in in aspen hill. we have more in a couple of minutes. maureen: thank you, doug. two children are safe tonight after a terrifying experience in lothian, maryland. police say the culprits are 12 and 14-year-old brothers. investigators say that the two brothers used a knife to threaten an 8-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother on a playground at the brooms mobile home park yesterday. the children were forced to a nearby barn and tied up. >> threatening to burn them alive. >> the older boy ran off when they heard the voice of the adult looking for the children. other children asked for help after seeing the victims led away. the 12 and the 14-year-old boys are in custody tonight. leon: there are charges in a horrific crash that killed two walt whitman high school

students against a student. not only against the student but a parent who hosted a party where the teenagers had access to alcohol. brianne carter has the latest on the case. what have you learned? brianne: we have learned that 19-year-old sam ellis facing charges in connection with the crash that happened last june. ellis was the driver killing 18-year-old calvin li and 18-year-old alexander murk. authorities say the teens had been at a drinking party prior to the crash. the adult is fined two $2,500 fines. more needs to be done when it

comes to furnishing the alcohol to minors. they need to go back and call for jail time. the president of whitman high school issued a letter to parents saying don't host an underaged drinking party after learning some parents may have done that in the past few weeks. tonight, john mccarthy calling the principal a hero. >> this is a message we should deliver consistently. if you don't want me to stand here and talk about the tragedy of the young people in the incidents we need to curb the behavior of the kids. get the parent community on board. stop being best friends with your kids. realize a parent has to be a parent. brianne: back to the indictment handed down and charges.

reporting live, brianne carter, abc7 news. alison: thank -- maureen: thank. we have breaking news where police are on the scene of a shooting near rigs road. kevin lewis is at the scene and we are told that the victim went looking for help at a nearby restaurant. is that true? a man dialed 911 and said a 16-year-old was shot in the apartment behind me. the boy ran for help and through the strip mall parking lot. went to the take-out store. he says that the 16-year-old boy was shot in his chest twice near his heart. the boy kept saying it hurts. we just saw the ambulance take that teenager to a local hospital. the teenager told man he was shot by two men.

leon: williams pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and other charges in the robbery and the fatal shooting of charles walker. walker was carrying a new pair of boots for his girlfriend at the time when he was attacked at hill crest heights in february of 2014. they were sentenced in august. maureen: 6-year-old boy shot to death by police in louisiana laid to rest today. he was killed tuesday strapped in the car seat. his father was also shot in the confrontation but survived. the two police officers are held on $1 million bond each. >> it shows things that disturb me as the head of the state police and disturbed med as a fire. >> chris few was not well enough to attend his son's

leon: d.c. police are asking for your help with an unusual case of sex abuse. this starts with a woman at a counter and then she debins to suggestively touch a man in line and another girl comes to join in. the man tries to get away and they still pursue him. this happened a at a gas station. if you recognize the women, police want to talk with you immediately. maureen: "rolling stone" magazine facing a $25 million lawsuit from university of virginia. u.v.a. chapter file ald suit over the magazine now discredited story about a gang rape at the frat house. the lawsuit claims the article harmed a fraternity's reputation. and caused undue stress to the

members. rolling stone retracted the article you might remember overdiscrepancies in thealleged. leon: public safety at risk in the nation's capital. chris papst joined us now with what he found when he dug in the numbers. what did you learn? chris: for fire and e.m.s. the last year has been a rough one. how many times have we heard of the stories of the ambulances not being available. we are at engine nine and there have not been an ambulance available for the three hours we have been there. if you talk to officials many of them will tell you the biggest problems that are causing them is the 911 abuse. what does it mean? the i-team analyzed the numbers. we looked at a month of the 911 calls. we accelerated the calls that were considered a high

doug: it did. looks and feels like november now. we have rain to go along. jamie is keeping us up to date on traffic. it's a messy night. tomorrow morning commute is not a prize either but it will improve by the afternoon drive home. this is a live look at the doppler radar. there is rain to go around. the area you see indicated in yellow, orange, red the heavier downpours. more of those in the evening. right now most is to the north and the northwest of downtown washington. a band moving in. there are more areas to follow. farther west and south from the farmville nrht mdle peninsula. tappahannock and the northern neck and the metropolitan area. there is plenty of rain to go

around. all day long temperatures are colder west of the metro than in d.c. proper and point east because of the rain and the cloud cover and the wind direction. we are picking up a little ocean influence temperature wise now. but more northeast irly winds keeping it colder west of the metro area. through the night and tomorrow morning we may see the temperatures rise a few degrees but not much. mid-50's in spots. by tomorrow morning we expect at 7:00 plenty of rain around the metro area. the rain should move out. by 3:30 tomorrow, baltimore is by the southern edge of the steady rain. it will be sunny and warmer for the day as well.

robert: well, if you watched the wizards play the hawks saturday there were several times when guard bradley beal should have come out of the game but he didn't. he would eventually leave with a shoulder injury, though. it looks like the wizards dodged a bullet. only a bruise. today he said he feels general soreness through but is questionable for the home game. speaking of tomorrow, guess who is coming home? your native son, kevin durant and the thunder. you know he can't avoid the elephant in t room. everyone is asking when are you coming home, k.d.?
