tuesday afternoon, he was driving from his home. a gunman approached and opened fire through the window, wounding parker in the head and neck. the car still running ripped through a street sign and crashed into a tree. sitting in the yard. i was thinking it was an accident. foundd: arriving officers the car empty. somebody took parker to the hospital, where he died from his wounds. >> it's a terrible thing to happen. wednesday night, detectives canvassed the area. a bloodhound lost the senate. many said that parker was going to the drug store to pick up medicine for his mother-in-law. now bernadette parker is praying for closure. >> i hope they catch that asked her to, i really, truly do. i just want to know why. sign a stark

reminder of what happened. parker says several months ago, her brother said he had just retired. now the authorities are trying to find motive or suspects in this case. richard reeve, abc 7 news. leon: breaking news from baltimore, where police officer -- a police officer is in the hospital after being shot. officers returned fire after being shot and the suspect was killed. the officer was shot in the leg and is expected to be ok. alison: an unfolding murder mystery and takoma park, a 34-year-old woman trained as a paralegal found stabbed to death near a dumpster at an office park. she has been identified as elena. the police do not have a suspect or motive at this time. information about a man behind the truck and caught a horrible accident in hyattsville, killed along with four others, including an unborn

this author spoke at american university about her new book about black soldiers' d-day heroism for stop in the audience, the family of a west philly native, waverly woodson. >> he did not wait to be drafted, he went right in. tom: he passed away in 2005. >> he saw an awful lot. tom: he was a paramedic in an all-black battalion that sent up balloons to keep german bombers from attacking. d-day, he worked 30 hours straight, treating soldiers and saving lives, at one point resuscitating four drowned men. >> he worked until he collapsed. tom: he did not talk about it much until the 50-year anniversary. that is when he did interviews like this one. >> you are just there to do what
