>> now, abc 7 news at noon. headedwhether you are out to your thanksgiving destination or just enjoying a day off from work, you are looking at sunny skies and warmer weather. let's get right to doug hill. doug: hey, jummy. we are starting off with plenty of sunshine outside. 50's. at the lower let's look at some numbers around the area. this is what we have for you. 50 degrees in baltimore. 50 degrees in leesburg. 50 degrees in manassas. we will hang onto to partly to mostly sunny skies. temperatures just about average. lower 50's.

we think about 55 degrees east of town in upper marlboro. high pressure dominates. we draw the lucky car this holiday season weather-wise. out west, things are changing. the storm system is bringing changes through idaho, portions of montana, eventually wyoming. our thanksgiving travel weather forecast, whether you are traveling locally or have wider plans to travel, look for snow over the dakotas and eastward into sections of minnesota. rain and probably some heavier downpours stretching that cold center front. we are sitting high and dry for the day tomorrow. we will see mild weather for the day on friday. as we get into the weekend, things will change. here is the local weather for you for thanksgiving day.

lots of sunshine, a few clouds, highs about 60 degrees. doug, thank you. we are waiting for an update from president obama on the status of homeland security is millions get ready to hang out -- head out for thanksgiving travel. the tsa will screen 40% more passengers in the wake of the terrorist attacks in paris. sam sweeney is at union station. sam: good afternoon, this is the busiest travel day of the year and security is tight at union station. officers are already in place with automatic assault-style rifles.

>> i think all of us recognize how horrific and heinous what took place in paris was. , the eventssterday touched a deep core given the connection between the united states and france. thedegree to which americans see a way of life that is so familiar t us. given the shocking images, i know that americans have been asking each other whether it is safe here, whether it is safe to fly. another families have discussed their fears about the threats of terrorism around the dinner table, many for the first time since september 11. it is understandable that people worry. parisng the events in made the threat feel closer to home. as we going to thanksgiving

weekend, i want the american people to know that we are taking every possible step to keep our homeland safe. after isilre going wherever it hides. i will speak about this in more detail in the coming weeks. let me remind you what our coalition is doing. our partnersand have conducted more than 8000 airstrikes on strongholds and equipment. along with ours partners on the ground have taken out key leaders and territory from isil in iraq and syria. we continue to choke off their financing and their recruitment in their messaging. even as america is already supporting french airstrikes in

syria. yesterday, we agreed that our countries are going to step up that coordination even further and do more of that work together. we are stepping up the pressure where it lives. we will not let up. we will adjust until they are beaten. that is our first goal. continue to do everything possible to prevent attacks at home and abroad and to prevent foreign terrorist fighters from entering. since 9/11, we have taken extraordinary nature's -- measures to strengthen border security and information. upon theseroved actions overtime. anytime there is an event, we learn something from it and we continue to refine it. we continue to improve upon approaches as we speak.

right now, we know of no specific and credible intelligence indicating a plot on the homeland. and that is based on the latest information i just received in the situation room. it is similar to the information, the briefing i received on saturday before i left on my trip last week. as americans travel this weekend to be with their loved ones, i want them to know that our counterterrorism, intelligence, and law enforcement are workings overtime to continually monitor threats at home and abroad. there continually evaluating our security posture. they are constantly working to protect all of us. has prevented attacks. their efforts have saved lives. they serve every hour of every day for the sake of our security.

without fanfare or credit and without a break for the holidays, they do the work. the bottom line is this. i want the american people to know that the combined resources of our military, our intelligence, and our homeland security these are on the case. they are vigilant, relentless, and effective. in the event of a specific credible threat, the public will be informed. useful for it is people, as they are going about their business to be vigilant. something suspicious, say something. that is always helpful. goerwise, americans should about the usual thanksgiving weekend activities. spending time with family and friends and celebrating our blessings. of terrorism is

a troubling reality of our age, we are both equipped to prevent attacks and we are resilient in the face of those who would try to do us harm. that is something we can all be thankful for. happy thanksgiving, everybody. that was president obama at the white house with homeland security secretary jeh johnson speaking about a security update, basically saying he wants americans to continue on as they normally would for the thanksgiving holiday, also saying that they will let americans know if there is any update on the security threat. we will keep you updated. in the meantime, we want to get back to sam sweeney at union station. sam: good afternoon. this is the busiest travel day of the year. security is tight at union station. you can see officers already in place with automatic, salt-style rifles outside at union station.

you can see more officers and dogs. the fbi considers union station a soft target. a new terror alert calls for ramped up security at all of the nation's rail stations a day after the state department issued a worldwide travel alert. what you are traveling by road or rail or air, officials say, if you see something, they want you to say something. >> you will see patrol officers with long guns. we have one of our detection canines. we have special agents with additional tactical skills. sam: while the state department says they do not have any credible or specific threats, they want the public to be vigilant and if you see something, they want you to say something. security forces will be in place through the holiday season. sam sweeney, abc 7 news. most people are

expected to drive to their thanksgiving destinations this year. jamie sullivan joins us with a check of the roads. our things already bad? jamie: it is. a truck overturned on the ramp from 95 southbound in virginia in newington right at the exit. the cruise -- crews are there doing cleanup. 95.ing southbound on let's take a look at the delays. we are seeing that continuing south through newington. you get a little bit of a break and then the brakes are on again. traffic is building much earlier than we typically would see. 66, we are clear. no delays on the toll roads. inbound of the gw toward reagan, we are in pretty good shape. i do want to go to hyattsville.

we have a water main break on riggs road. we don't have all lanes blocked, but they are doing intermittent closures. northbound 95, in the 20's right now as you approach laurel. a fewparkway both have slow spots, but i would take the baltimore-washington parkway instead of 95 if you have to catch if i --a flight this afternoon. jummy: thank you. it is not just travelers on black some retailers, the friday shopping frenzy is just about 24 hours away. the anticipation of big crowds has law-enforcement being extra cautious. john gonzalez is live with what shoppers should know. john: here at pentagon row, we have been topping -- talking to shoppers. shoppers know that they are probably going to see more police, more security, and they are ok with that. here we are, 12 days after the terrorist

attacks in paris and police are keeping a close eye on the popular hangouts. concern for that soft terror threat at shopping centers and shopping malls in the area. authorities say you should expect a beefed-up security and uniformed police officers in the area. in paris france, shoppers have been reluctant. numbers are showing a sharp drop in sales. >> it is the image of protection. that is the cops' job. they have to provide that protection. there is that imperative. >> you've got to go about your life, keep doing what you are doing. if you get all bound up in fear,

streets in chicago overnight after authorities released a video of a white police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times. some of this video is graphic. elizabeth hur as the latest on the backlash as the victim's family calls for calm. elizabeth: this is the dash cam video the victim's family did not want you to see. it shows the moment that jason van dyke opened fire on 17-year-old lacquan mcdonald. 16 bullets in 15 seconds. >> it is violent, it is chilling. despite the mcdonald family calling for calm, overnight, hundreds of protesters shut down traffic. it was on the night of october 20, 2014 at 9:47.

police respond to a call of a suspect with a knife breaking into cars and walking the street. 10 minutes after officers spotted mcdonald, officer vandyke begin shooting. investigators say mcdonald never actually threatened the officers. dyke waserday, van charged with first-degree murder. his attorney is not answering questions. >> this is not a murder case. despite what you heard in the courtroom. his attorney is arguing that the officer feared for his life. the city has reached a $5 million settlement with the mcdonald family. a check of now for the forecast. tomorrow, the big thanksgiving holiday. what will the weather bring? doug: getting off to a great start here weather-wise around the area. we are going to find sunshine

today and sunshine tomorrow and through the day on friday, as well. let's take a look back historically. on last time we had snow thanksgiving day was thanksgiving day 1989. we had 1.9 inches of snow. in warmest thanksgiving was 2007 at 77 degrees. the coldest on record was 30 degrees in 1930. right now, we are looking at beautiful conditions all around the area. 49, annapolis. manassas, 52 degrees. woodbridge, 51. a couple of gorgeous days with high-pressure. that will hang tough for the next couple of days while storminess makes its way across the nation's midsection. look at this. a whole sprawling area -- you see that pink color into montana. those are storm warnings, blizzard warnings in wyoming.

some major winter weather over there. winter weather advisory for kansas. rain moving to the east were some flooding could be possible. high-pressure is going to protect us for a couple of days. by tomorrow afternoon, there will be rain moving through areas of snow, north of omaha through nebraska, southeastern minnesota. that all pushes to the east. for friday, we will be very pleasant. front spreads out from arkansas to western new england. we will keep our eye on the system. cloudiness, but probably not much in the way of rain. sundayget some rain by as a disturbance develops to our south. travel or stay-at-home, coast-to-coast, thunder in texas, rain in the midsection, showers in the northern lakes, the snow will be ending across

sections of wyoming, but continuing to fall across the dakotas and parts of minnesota. locally, the forecast is short and sweet. thanksgiving day, partly cloudy, 60 degrees. black friday forecast, just fine. clouds, but temperatures into the mid-60's by the afternoon. just a slight chance late in the day of a shower with a cold front. the better chances of rain come on sunday, monday, and tuesday. we will not set any records or extremes. 60 degrees for thanksgiving day sounds sweet to me. jummy: it sure does. your washington redskins will play at least one game in london next year. get your washington passports ready. the team will go up against the cincinnati bengals at wembley stadium. depending on how the skins do this year, they could also play at london the week before against the st. louis rams.

if that happens, they would be the first nfl franchise to play consecutive regular-season games overseas. exciting stuff. this afternoon, president obama will take part in the annual turkey pardoning. the national presidential turkey and its alternate arrived yesterday. they will not end up on the dinner table. they come from a ranch in modesto california. they will spend the rest of their lives on a farm in leesburg. coming up, a health alert you should hear about.

lucky to be alive after a demolition project goes horribly wrong. taylor -- take a look at this video here. the worker uses an excavator to help not this tower over. theomes crashing down in wrong direction, landing on the excavator. people were able to rush to him and he escaped with only minor injuries. wow. a health matters alert. rotisserie chicken salad sold by an e. is being linked to coli outbreak. 19 people in seven states have fallen ill and five of those people have been hospitalized. the outbreak occurred between october 6 and november 3. the cdc says it does not yet know which ingredient in the chicken salad caused that outbreak. a beautiful day on this thanksgiving eve.
