hear from passengers traveling from other places and arriving in d.c. to see the stepped up security, what they have to say. reporting live, brianne carter, abc7 news. alison: thank you very much. this week we have been asking if you think the government should be accountable if terrorists enter this country through the refugee resettlement programs. more than 8,000 people took part in the poll and 84% say yes. locally 77% of the 429 people who took part said yes. jonathan: in other news, new information of a case by a local student taken down by police in a violent video. today the d.c. police of chief released the result of the interim investigation in the case. stephen tschida joining us live outside headquarters with the results. what did they come up with? stephen: first the chief says the officers axed appropriately. we learned the initial call was for a robbery, not suspicious behavior.

we learned jason ghoulsby had a back pack and turned it to the front as he ran from the officers and shoved his hand many back pack and refused to remove it when the officers told him to do so. this is the video. we have the cell phone video that sparked so much outrage and protest. chief cathy lanier says not because of the complaints but the allegations made by ghoulsby and his attorney they found the department found that the officers involved here did act appropriately. here is what the chief had to say. >> chief lanier: we feel the officer's actions were appropriate and in the department policy. we wanted to make sure we came back and made the review public. this is not something that disappears from the public eye. stephen: now other revelations

from the investigation. ghoulsby and his attorney maintain he and his friend were held, detained for up to two hours. the chief says it was a matter of minutes. as far as injuries, he says that they did not complain of injuries and refuse any kind of treatment after they were released. she also says that if the officers involved had been wearing body cameras, this whole situation would never have escalated most likely. reporting live, stephen tschida, abc7 news. jonathan: thank you very much. this is something we are just getting in the newsroom right now. d.c. police released this traffic cam video. that is a white van that investigators believe was involved in the kidnapping and rape of a woman. the attack happened saturday morning at 1500 block of fifth street northwest. the woman was taken from the 11th street area and driven several blocked and attacked there. if you know anybody or perhaps if you have seen this, they would like to hear from you. alison: only on 7 tonight, reading, writing and raydon?

we have our hands on a new report that finds radon levels almost three times the e.p.a. limit inside school buildings. montgomery county kevin lewis has details. kevin: this five-page document is sure to grab attention of a lot of terror. radon at a number of schools including south lake elementary school in gaithersburg. for background, radon is an odorless gas that seeks in buildings in cracks through the foundation. because it can cause lung cancer the e.p.a. says radon should not top 4 picocurries per liter. 28 of the 205 schools tested above the e.p.a. level. for instance, redland middle school in durwood had 13 classroom of elevated radon. one registered a six. spring brook high school in silver spring had eight classrooms the worst at 9.8,

is the charges and the deck here that is destroyed. the fire started below in this shed area. the cause is still unknown. it is remarkable that the fire did not spread to the home. it's in large part to the fairfax police helicopter squad. 3:30 in the morning on november 1, the squad was returning to base from a burglary call in fairfax when the officers on board noticed the fire. the infrared video you are looking at now from the helicopter shows how serious the situation was. immediately the crew called it in. moments later the firefighters were on the scene putting out the fire before it spread to the home. signed the home, the 71-year-old woman and three great grandchildren 10, 11, 12 years old all of whom got out unharmed. >> thank you, lord. thank you. who knows what would have happened. >> the simple fact we were up on patrol, we happened to come

as jeanette reyes explains speak up, save a life aims to change that. jeanette: a disturbing epidemic that devastated the county and the entire state. last year alone the number of the deaths as a result of heroin overdoses could fill this entire auditorium. drug overdoses are on the rise and heroin is leading the way. by far. over 900 people died in the state of maryland as a result of the overdoses by heroin. victims are overwhelmingly white between the ages of 18 and 30. the suburbs are now increasingly familiar with the insidious drug. >> it would be like we wiped out your high school. that is level of the epidemic. >> it's important to know who the friends are and where they are going, what they are doing on friday and saturday night. >> seven years ago a 15-year-old tried heroin for the second time with a friend. this after a rough breakup

president obama: for months there has been a fierce competition between a bunch of turkeys trying to win their way into the white house. jonathan: with that, president obama pardoned two turkeys. they were spare and they will spend the rest of the days on a farm living out the rest of their days. some of the lest fortunate friends are prepared for tables all over the country. alison: a lot of people may have questions. this is a big meal. you have to prepare this. the whopper of them all, the smith environmental center in durwood, which emitted 11.9 picocurry of radon. that is under three times the e.p.a. limit. >> 11 is high. that is a danger level. kevin: jim is a certified master radon tester and instructor and has been in the business for 30 years. >> these are high levels. for my kids, i wouldn't allow them in this building or the rooms that were tested to be at the level. kevin: today, mpcs told us they take radon seriously and is plan topping retest the problem classrooms. as far as we know, they have not released the report of the parents with the high radon levels. we also don't know what plans the school system has to remediate the potentially deadly gas. in gaithersburg, kevin lewis, abc7 news.
