vigil tonight at a mosque in san bernardino. alison: wednesday's mass shooting ignited a fierce debate about gun control in america. the senate this evening rejected putgun-control proposals forward by democrats. one would have expanded background checks, the other would have stopped anyone on the fbi terror watch list from walking into a store and buying a gun. earlier today, the white house says it is not afraid to look at other steps. andhe president has asked determined if there were additional steps the administration could take. alison: he said the president still feel strongly that congressional action is needed to make america safer. leon: in the wake of the terror attacks in paris in the mass shooting in california, security was tight at the national christmas tree lighting tonight. richard reeve has the extra measures that were taken tonight

the board will vote in april. leon: 7 on your side with a consumer alert as holiday shopping kicks into high gear. thieves are trying to take your money. tonight, a scam is happening that you need to know about. tom roussey is live in the newsroom with a look at how to protect yourself. tom: this is the better business bureau's website, and this is a description of all the different scams that happened during the holiday season every year. there is one already going on, and the police want to warn you about it. the leesburg police department's facebook page, a warning about a scam. this happens every year, not just in leesburg but through the d.c. area. scammers call somebody claiming they are raising money for the police when in fact they have no connection to the police department. >> they claim to be with the police and ask for donations, what do you do? >> ask questions, what agency,
