new video from inside the killers' home shows it ransacked by authorities. clothes and bernal items left behind. a crib for their 6-month-old daughter. they also left 6,100 rounds of ammunition and 12 unexpected bombs in their garage. likud opened fire on -- it was tashfeen malik that opened fire on police and ended in their death. >> they were friends with the man who did this. they knew he was muslim. they had no idea he had become radicalized. brandi: vigil thursday, thousands gathered to remember the victims. the ages ranging from 60 to 26. daniel kauffman was among them. >> the world is better having one less person like him. brandi: the f.b.i. long warned about isis online campaign encouraging people overseas and here at home to kill.
4:01 pm
in san bernardino, california, brandi hitt, abc7 news. alison: the landlord of the home where syed farook and tashfeen malik lived just let the media right inside the apartment. this came hours after the f.b.i. cleared the scene as part of the investigation. >> if you look here you can see where they smashed up in the ceiling to take a look to see what was up there. it does appear based on how much debris is on the ground that there was an effort to get up there and make sure they check every crevice of the back bedroom. i have seen passported and driver's license, social security cards, plenty of things around here as well as menty of signs of faith. a lot of signs of faith here. a lot of signs of people who believed in their faith and referencing it. there are stickers.
4:02 pm
so far all throughout the room. a lot of paperwork and luggage up here as well, too. it looks like it's been stashed in the corner. but signs that this has been a room that has been ransacked before the media got here but by the police as well. alison: let's talk more about this. everyone is discussing this today. joining me on the phone is michael, required commander of homicide for the prince george's county police department. in the newsroom today we were watching this. all the reporters and the photographers going through the house, we have really never seen anything like this before. my first question for you, was it legal for this land lord to let them? if it was, should they have done this in the first place in your opinion? michael: obviously it's probably legal. it is his property. although it's still leased. the people are deceased who leased it. the estate has it. main thing that happened is
4:03 pm
they let everybody in to contaminate something that may be needed later. who knows what course the investigation could take and they may need to go back in there. now that has all been destroyed to allowing all the press to go through the apartment. alison: we heard the reporter saying they saw passport and i.d. and social security cards. does it require you if the f.b.i. was finished there that they would still be laying around? >> i'm not intimately involved in the circumstances but there is a search and a seizure warrant served and a return left there. now even knows what evidence was seized. or all the press corps knows what evidence was seized. so by the land lord letting the press in, everybody is made aware of the current status of the investigation and what was gleaned from the search warrant. alison: right. what were your thoughts on this in general? i know we are stepping into a new situation for this country. did it surprise you to see the
4:04 pm
media going through this and having it be open to the world? michael: they were given access by the legal owner of the property. or the legal person in charge of it, the landlord. obviously they realized the mistake, because a short time later it was resealed and the landlord was taken away and obviously interviewed as to why the landlord allowed access. alison: absolutely. we appreciate your time. thank you for taking to us. jonathan: more than a few people are critical of the fact they think the f.b.i. let the information slip through cracks. meaning, there should have been something on this person. this alleged shooter in this case because they say he was in touch with radical jihadists. they knew that, because that guy was on the radar screen. in the past hour, the f.b.i. director james comey spoke about the california shootings and said they had nothing in their holdings on the husband and wife now believed to be the terrorists.
4:05 pm
they had this to say to the american public. >> director comey: we know this is unsettling for the people of the united states. what we hope you will do not is not let fear become disabling but instead try to channel it in awareness of your surroundings, to get you to a place where you are living your life. if you see something that doesn't make sense you say something to somebody. jonathan: again the f.b.i. is reviewing and going back over the cases in regard to who was on the radar screen and why a red flag wasn't raised in this case. now friday, typically a day of reflection and prayer in islamic face. today a local mosque opened the doors to the federal and the state lawmakers. jeff goldberg is picking that story up for us. jeff: well, jonathan, last week at the mosque here in falls church they experienced several acts of anti-muslim vandalism, including a molotov cocktail that was thrown right here in the parking lot. no one was hurt. the f.b.i. is investigating.
4:06 pm
but today, the congregation inviting inside members of congress and the media to pledge a message of solidarity and peace. jeff: the mosque is full capacity for friday prayer. the crowd including democrats in the virginia general assembly. following the attacks in paris and now san bernardino they have felt the anti-muslim rhetoric intensify across the country leading to the acts of vandalism including those in northern virginia. local members of congress today pledging to the muslim community they strongly oppose acts or behavior of islam ophobia. >> our presence here today we have to come together as community of tolerance and
4:07 pm
solidarity. >> we stand with solidarity with you and represent millions more. [applause] jeff join us tonight at 2:00. we'll speak to members of the congregation about how they feel what is a lot of anti-muslim rhetoric spoke ain cross the region and the country at this moment. also the f.b.i. is looking into another act of a situation of anti-muslim behavior at another mosque. we will tell you where and what it is at 6:00. until then live in falls church, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. jonathan: thank you very much. today's revelation of the california ail tacks may have been driven by tashfeen malik. raising new questions in the war on terror. >> we underestimate women in terrorism. jonathan: coming up at 5:00, a leading researcher talks about the role women are playing in isis and why not paying attention could put us all at risk. alison: we have breaking news right now out of montgomery
