our maryland bureau chief in baltimore where we just found out the jury asked a question. what did they want to know? brad: this is the first we have heard from the jury all day long. to have a written transcript of certain witness testimony. the judge said no, they had to rely on memory and notes with regard to witness testimony. the jury, as we see it, is deliberating again. they may remain deadlocked, as they told us they were yesterday, but they are at the working through evidence trying to come to a consensus. the jury must be unanimous in its decision. if they are not, they become deadlocked, sometimes called a hung jury. the judge will have at that point no options but to call for , which essentially means it is as though this trial never happened. prosecutors can make a decision if they want to try this case

again in the future. much will way into that decision if it comes to that, not the least of which is the next police officer trial is 6 forled to start january the person who was driving the police van in which freddie gray suffered his fatal injuries. a juryble to know what is thinking, but it appears as though they are working through the evidence. we expect they will take their daily 12:30 lunch break and work 5:30 this afternoon. there is a gag order in this case. you are not allowed to talk to participants about anything of substance. this morning, i had a brief interaction with officer william porter, the man on trial here. he essentially said he is holding up well. very tense time for him as he waits for this jury. every time the buzzer rings, he goes into court with a lawyer. we have seen smiles from him.

he has been sitting in the second floor waiting area with his mother right beside him on a bench in the courthouse. the jury is back to deliberating. we will have the latest throughout the day, let you know if there are any changes. thank you for the update. we have learned the person killed in a d.c. shooting was a secret service officer. the secret service confirmed an officer was shot and killed on the 4700 block of 1st street. sources say the victim was arthur baldwin, who was put on leave in april after a burglary arrest. npd is searching for three men .n connection with the shooting the secret service released a statement expressing condolences to that officer's family. in other news, more than a dozen people are out of their homes this noon after a fire ripped through 4 townhomes in prince william county this morning in

manassas. two firefighters were trapped. jeanette reyes is in the newsroom with how they escaped and the damage they left behind. jeanette: two firefighters are ok this afternoon after being trapped inside that burning building, but now, 15 people are without a home because of this multi-alarm fire. take a look at this incredible video. those flames broke out around 3:30 this morning near auburn .igh school firefighters told us they could see flames shooting through the roof. firefighters two were trapped on the second floor. one jumped from the window. the other was rescued with a latter. >> i stepped on the roof outside my window. i leaned over to look, and there was a fire in the backyard. i went banging on people's doors
