being taken into custody on 395 north. just north of the third street tunnel. we believe that is the suspect's vehicle in the middle of the roadway. you you can see traffic diverted on to massachusetts avenue. there is a road rage dispute after which one of the suspects got a gun from his trunk and fired a warning shot in the air near the parking gar ran exit. multiple people called 911 and gave description to the police. soon after that the arlington police spotted the suspect vehicle and a chase started. in the chase, one of the suspects apparently threw a gun outside the car at 395 north at the g.w. parkway. in this area, by third and northwest, two men got out of the vehicle and took off on

foot. arlington misalong with metropolitan playlist captured the suspect and got them and secured them to custody. >> this is a unique holiday. temps may get extricated. jeff: we don't know the circumstances that led up to the road rage incident. this sunday investigation but we expect the police to clean up the scene and reopen 395 north at some point soon throughout the situation. no one was hurt. live in northwest washington, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. alison: all right. thank you. greenbelt woman wants answers after a police officer shot

her dog literally behind her back. leon: this unusual story began when the woman who is hearing impaired took her three dogs to a dog park. stephen tschida picks up the story from there. tell us about this. stephen: the d.c. police officer is under investigation tonight for possible animal cruelty. we're know that she called capital beltway police early sunday morning. she said she was standing here near the dog park. she says a pit bull bared her teeth at her and she shot it. the bullet went through her side and slid past the organs and her spine. a 1-year-old pitbull is recovering. she needed to shoot her because she is a a pitbull. latoya plumber is hearing impaired. >> i was at the dog's park. stephen: she e she writes down her take on the event sunday morning. she put the other dogs in the

car and when she turned around chloe was on the ground. shaking, bleeding. she said at first the woman standing nearby acted like nothing happened. she assumed another dog bit her. only later did she learn the woman shot her. >> she did not say she was a police officer or off-duty and had a gun on her? >> i don't think it's acceptable. stephen: other dog owners express outrage of a bullet flying in a k9 playground. >> i would have issue with the person coming to the dog park and doing that. it's appalling to me. stephen: d.c. and capital beltway police are investigating as well as animal control. regardless of the outcome that latoya plummer is happy that chloe survived but fears the woman will return to the park. >> it's not okay. stephen: pitbulls are banned

in prince george's county but not in the city of greenbelt. reporting live, stephen tschida, abc7 news. leon: all right. thank you. tonight, police are looking for whoever shot three people outside the kentland community center in landover. officers were called to the facility in the 2400 block of pine brook avenue. the victims were rushed to the hospital center. the extent of the injuries is not known. universities tell us they have yet to establish -- verdicts tell us they have yet -- investigators have not established a motive. alison: we have an update to "7 on your side" i team investigation. some parents are fighting back against the fair fax county public school plan to install crumb rubber athletic field. all of this is weeks after an abc7 report that showed concerns over the long-term health effects that the fields can have on children.

mike carter-conneen? mike: with the teeny bit of the crumb rubber on the athletic field many parents are concerned about the potential health hazards if the children inhale or somehow ingest them during games or the recent activity. a few parents are considering moving the children to another school because of this. after he discovered this in the elementary school and was using the crumb rubber he did research and found congress calling for comprehensive study of the material. some jurisdictions banning the use. >> i was overwhelmed by the articles and the videos and research papers on it. >> he twenty to the west gate elementary school p.t.a. unanimous vote, the organization decided to call in the school district to suspend field construction to give parents more time to

understand possible health concerns associated with crumb rubber. >> we have had a number of people and p.t.a. call and ask why has been no response to the e-mail. we're told they are looking at it. mike: most agree with the p.t.a. demand for more time. >> it's better to wait. the field will be complete next week. and the parents say what then? >> i don't know. >> you can't protect them from everything. >> no way getting on the field if they put crumb rubber on there. i can't. >> the school district says it has engaged with the parents in this since 2013 and consulted the the fairfax county health department but it understands the concern of parents for a need for clear

operative that looked behind a failed firewall on the server. the campaign said it will sue if it doesn't restore access to the own files. it will come up in the democratic debate. at 6:00 we look at why many question the dnc decision to put the debates on saturday. leon: pray for baltimore. that is the message that was delivered at the vatican. he spoke about the racial unrest in baltimore following the death of freddie gray. they discussed lack o access to healthcare in the city. alison: well, a shock across the airwaves you could say in washington today. one of only two f.m. all news radio stations in the area shut down without warning.

leon: "the force awakens" is smashing the box office record around the world. it learned $57 million in addition to the 14 million plus european theaters brought in. the ticket website f aendango reported selling more tickets than any other film in 15-year history. before leaving p christmas in hawaii the first family hosted viewing of the film for the gold star military family that lost loved ones overseas. the excitement about the film saves lives so they cre ited a video with an officer pulling over aerca. the driver revealed to be a wookiee. the storm trooper is riding shotgun. not something that you expect to see. policesy that is the point they want to make. >> a traffic stop is stressful for the driver and the passenger in the car. but it's extremely stressful for a police officer.

home and hospice. around in some form since 1888. these days the focus is finding somewhere else for the patient to stay because the property is being sold to next door neighbor. and for a number of those whose loved ones live here it's difficult to find another nursing home. >> residents said they were at capacity and they weren't taking anyone for a waiting list. they didn't carry a waiting list. we're in limbo. >> several high-profile families said children and the friends including president obama and clinton. the school is buying the 5.5 acre home and hospice site to move it to a lower school in bethesda next to the school here. the residents like joseph, the home and hospice -- >> they are good neighbors. i'm sorry to see them go. >> and sidwell? >> we like sidwell but we are alarmed -- we're concerned, not alarmed about the traffic generated from it.

>> this place is supposed to be vacated by december of 2016. for a lot of the patients it's a scramble. although they have some time. the city is relaxing medicaid rules to allow them to relocate facilities in maryland. rose says her friends are taking it in stride. >> leave it in god's hands. so there is work ahead. alison: we have new information about a story we first brought you on abc7. radon testing in some schools in montgomery county hasn't been done in decades. we first reported last month that 28 schools had levels at or above what is considered hazardous by the e.p.a. it turns out many of those

schools have had high levels for years. four schools had not been tested since 1988. all schools retested for radon and it is listed as the second leading cause of lung cancer. we have a link of the test result for each school on the website wjla.com. >> a spotsylvania teen counted for two counts of second-degree murder that happened outside the cookout restaurant on june 14 in an argument between two group of men. prosecutors say that taylor who was 15 at the time stabbed three men killing two of them. because taylor is a juvenile the jury did not recommend a sentence. the judge will determine the punishment. fairfax city police defending how it handled a man living in a caved. police arrested rios on sunday. that is the cave you see in the photo. 15-feet deep and had a set of

>> therapy dog working with a 26-year-old named wynn, a software developer who suffered a traumatic brain injury. >> what is the dog's name? good job. alison: the woman who came up with the idea for the animal assisted care program is leslie horton, a former nurse in the trauma intensive care unit and has been running this program for 14 years. >> it is overwhelming. i don't know what else to say. it's overwhelming to be so blessed. humbling. alison: she loves her job. it's personal for her. horton has multiple cler row analysis and miles was her therapy dog. he keeps her going. >> miles is special. he started at the hospital. four months of age. he has been a dream. leon: there are 25 to 30 dogs and volunteer teams in all. alison: it's the emotional reaction from the patients and

alison: a maryland mother about to give birth reaches out to "7 on your side" after she realizes her second-hand crib may be dangerous. at the time our consumer investigator kimberly suiters helped her get her money back, but nine months later there is much more to the story. kimberly: when tristan came in the world nine months ago he did not have a bed to lay his head. >> i don't know what he would have done. kimberly: shannon rosendale relied on the generosity of friends and family, including a crib her dad bought at a secondhand store in hagerstown but soon found out they deemed the drop-side cribs like this one deadly, under recall, illegal to be sold. >> i would never, never sell something ill knew had been recalled. kimberly: but the crib you sold her was under recall. >> i was not aware of it. >> the score took the crib back but wouldn't give herself

the money back until we stepped in. the next day, tristan was born and a viewer in virginia who saw the "7 on your side" report wished to remain anonymous bought the baby bed of their dreams. a $400 gift. >> it was incredible. she didn't need to do that. it was out of the kindness to the heart. i wish i could do that for other people. >> someone else is promising to give back, too. the owners told "7 on your side" his shop is closed. everything inside to be given away. >> rosendale admits she is struggling financially but at least she has a safe place to keep her greatest treasure. alison: a reminder to be generous. kimberly: if you're donating or buying baby items check with the website to maybe sure it is not under recall. i know you remember this story.

made a mistake, that is the result of an interim investigation launched after an abc7 item report found the county was not cooperating with the federal immigration authorities. chris papst has been given bad information. chris: what has the chairman corey stewart relieved relievede release of the county that shows the county should not be considered the so-called sanctuary city. >> the last time we spoke, he saideads would roll. a sanctuary city doesn't fully cooperate with i.zc. last month they found five in the d.c. metro area including prince william county. two days after the story aired they launched an interim audit

to learn why the police were no longer fully cooperating with ice. the result found wjla was provided inaccurate information from county police. >> it's clear that we didn't do a sufficient job reviewing our own policies. chris: police chief hudson said his staff spent hundreds of hours reviewing policy and found this year his department encountered 15 people with immigration related warrants reported to ice which is in line with the actual poysy. >> a simple error. we fixed it. i assure it won't happen again. >> the reason the i-team received inaccurate information goes back to 2012. that year federal immigration policy changed and he said when we called his department doing the research for the original story the public information officer for the county did not understand the
