>> now, abc seven news, on your side. >> authorities are trying to figure out why a woman intentionally tro her car into a crowd of people in a busy las vegas strip. one person was killed and more than 30 others were injured. brandy has the new details we are learning about the driver. >> a hit and run on the busy las vegas strip.

>> a lady jumped the curb in her car and went right through people. >> a woman driving this oldsmobile veered onto the sidewalk up to three times sunday night, accelerating into the crowd just out side the paris hotel and casino. >> about 30 or 40 rushing through the sidewalk, crushing people. >> people are bouncing off the front of the car. >> one person was dead and more than 30 people are rushed to the hospital. a child sat inside the car. witnesses try to run alongside the vehicle to stop the driver. quite a look like he was not even trying to stop the car. both the hands on the wheel driving straightforward. >> we have this driver in custody? >> affirmative. >> this was an intentional act. >> the toddler inside the vehicle was unarmed but several people remain hospitalized. >> what really happened? >> investigators are looking over surveillance footage to get a better understanding of what

happened. they say it is not a case of terrorism. abc news, los angeles. jummy: muslim leaders across the nation coming together in the wake of the recent terrorist attack. sam sweeney is in northwest d.c. where they discuss home a foot -- islamophobia. sam: a major summit in northern virginia. they just addressed the press here at the national press club. they talked about concerns as a minority here in the united states and how they will fix them. those concerns, islam a phobia and the brainwashing of muslim youth. following the attacks in paris and san bernardino california attacks against muslims and their mosques sword in the united states. -- soared in the united states. a multipart proposal, the group said it will rule out a number

of initiatives, including the establishment of alliances between muslim and other face -- faith leaders and rabbis. they plan to hold open mosque days where they will welcome those from other faith backgrounds. the group says it will work with muslim youth to ensure they do not become radicalized. >> we have to do a better job of reaching out to our young people from the pulpits of the mosques in america. and teaching them how they can avoid this approach found on the internet from groups like isis and others. we are redoubling our efforts as a community, opening our mosques to neighbors and friends. sam: today, they say there is a division between americans and muslims and those of other faiths, far worse than after 9/11 attacks. they blame it on what they call irresponsible and he did

rhetoric among presidential candidates. i am sam sweeney, abc 7 news. jummy: we turn to vote 2016 and a list of republican presidential candidates is now smaller. senator lindsey graham announcing today he is dropping out of the gop race. the south carolina senator posted a video this morning saying he is suspending his campaign. he said he had run a campaign he can be proud of that was focused on the nation parsons security -- the nation's security. dropped below the threshold. donald trump is demanding an apology from hillary clinton. during saturday night's debate, hillary said isis is you -- is using trump's comments to recruit for isis. trump responded that she is a liar. ms. clinton: the messages trump

jamie: especially in the areas we are not used to seeing it, may be closer for 270 frederick, and 95 heading south. we have the construction zone northbound 3rd street, and you see the solid red line on the interlude as well as the outer loop. there is a tractor-trailer fire on the interlude that university boulevard. we have a backup already on georgia avenue inner loop. let's take a live look to show you how heavy we are actually traveling. we get a good idea of the bumper to bumper traffic on the inner loop and you can compare it to the outer loop where there is a lot -- not a lot of volume and we are moving at a nice pace. heading to the bethesda area trying to get to silver spring give yourself extra time or you can take for 10 as an option, and that will be the best alternates instead of taking the beltway.

back to you. jummy: developing now, a holiday party ends in a homicide in montgomery county. a guest of the party was shot and killed overnight. police released the name of the suspect and the victim. charged in the death of mario perez. more on the crime shaping this typically quiet town. >> a christmas party here into mask us last night. this afternoon, it is a crime scene. we want to show you the home where police got a call early this morning of a shooting. we understand a homeowner who shot and killed a man who was an invited guest. we watched as investigators pulled several bags of evidence out of the home and they asked -- they also pulled out what appeared to be a long case. the house was filled with adult and children and something went

terribly wrong or the men of the house got into an argument with the invited guests. the 35-year-old man shot and killed. the suspect stayed at the home. i switch i did figure out what happened fair we saw the van and they tried to take pictures and that was when we were like, ok, something bad happened. >> the 40-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and investigators believe the suspect and victim were acquainted and new each other. >> the man's's body found lying just inside the front door right next to the family's eastern christmas tree. -- family's christmas tree. 30 homicides this year. a spokesperson said he cannot member the last time there was a call of this kind here. john gonzalez, abc seven news. jummy: a man accused of supplying weapons to the san bernardino terror attack suspects is in court today.

prosecutors are not asking for bail money for enrique marquez saying he is a dangerous flight risk. he bought two semiautomatic rifles that terrorists used in that attack. he did not know about the plans for that attack. another school threat in one new hampshire community. a school administrator read a threat of violence over e-mail. it specifically mentioned two high schools in the area. police will be stepping up patrols. police are working with state and federal officials to determine how credible the threat is. coming up here, putting survival lessons to good use. how a boy scout troop helped save their leader after he was attacked by a bear. plus, a big surprise for a local family who lived through a tragic crash. the act of kindness helping them

despite bytes to his leg and shoulders, the scout leader has been released from the hospital already. closer to home, a horrific crash left five dead including an unborn child. 14 others were injured. a woman put together an event to help a family suffering with loss to try to get through the holidays. in the newsroom with more on this amazing act of kindness. >> the story is really touching. the families have not had much to smile about. i saw their faces light up with joy today after one stranger showed them the meaning of business. you may remember rodriguez's wife and two young kids were in a church than that caught fire in november when a drunk driver plowed into them. she met a mother, also there with her son. over time, they bonded.

that woman took it upon herself to collect dozens of toys and basic necessities to surprise the families for christmas. she even had some of the first responders present to greet them. take a listen. >> we have people dropping stuff off and i :00 last night knowing we were coming this morning. i think a lot of the people dropping stuff off for moms. you cannot imagine your child being alone in the hospital, let alone losing a child. it is a precious gift to come out and see other families. >> it was emotional or a lot of people. you remember the six girl died in the crash as well. that community donated gifts and basic necessities to the family. coming up, more later on and we will hear from some of the rest responders. some of them could not make it here they are still shaken up but we will hear from one of them later in the afternoon. jummy: a great story to see
