islam and muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists. >> reporter: after the debate, clinton's campaign could provide no direct evidence that happened. at a campaign rally monday night, trump pushed back. >> and it turned out to be a lie. she's a liar. no, it turned out to be a lie. >> reporter: and trump is demanding that clinton apologize to which a clinton campaign spokesman replied "hell no." donald trump himself has repeatedly been accused of distorting facts. on monday the fact checking watchdog politifact called his campaign misstatements the 2015 lie of the year. megan hughes, abc news, washington. six american service members are dead and two injured in the deadliest attack on u.s. forces in afghanistan in more than three years. among them was new york city police officer joseph lemm, a member of the air national guard. the suicide attack by the taliban was another setback in afghanistan for the u.s. where a key province is in danger of falling to the taliban.

and the friend and former neighbor of san bernardino terrorist sayed farook must remain in jail. during a hearing yesterday, a federal judge denied bail for enrique marquez deciding that he is a danger to the community. defense attorneys had argued that marquez h been cooperating with the fbi even when he was not under arrest. a suspect in sunday night's deadly crash on the las vegas strip is in jail and on suicide watch right now. investigators are looking into lakeisha holloway's life while they develop a motive for her alleged actions. she's reportedly already told authorities that she was stressed out finding a place for her and her daughter to sleep. abc's brandi hitt has more. >> reporter: a terrifying hit and run on the busy las vegas strip. >> some lady ran, jumped the curb in her car and went through the people. >> reporter: police say 24-year-old lakeisha holloway veered onto the sidewalk up to three times sunday night accelerating into the crowd just

outside the paris hotel and casino. >> video confirms we believe it to be an intentional act. >> jessica valenzuela, a wife and mother from arizona was killed. this go fund me page set up for her family. at least 35 others were also injured while holloway's 3-year-old child sat inside the swerving car. police caught up to the driver moments later. >> we have this driver in custody. >> that's affirmative. she's in custody. >> reporter: investigators don't believe this was an act of terrorism but know very little about her background. she was believed to have been living in oregon, then in vegas, living in her vehicle for days. >> we believe that she had some disassociation with the father of her child. >> reporter: the toddler inside the vehicle was unharmed and is now in protective custody. >> why? why us? why did this happen? and what really happened? >> reporter: investigators don't believe alcohol was involved but they're testing whether holloway was under the influence of drugs. she's facing at least one count

of murder and possibly several counts of attempted murder. >> thank you so much, brandi. an avalanche danger suspended the search for a missing skier in washington state. 43-year-old monty busbee disappeared over the weekend over the area there. police have located his truck with his cell phone inside. dozens of volunteers and four teams of dogs have been combing the area. despite this setback, rescuers are optimistic. >> he could be in a snow cave, he could be under a tarp just waiting for us. maybe you know, who knows? maybe a broken ankle or something waiting for us to get there. >> and in that area, snoqualmie, busbee is described as an experienced back country skier known to carry a backpack with gear and an avalanche beacon. as winter officially arrives, there's proof in the pacific northwest. >> another storm is hitting washington and oregon with heavy snowfall making travel dangerous in higher elevations. accuweather's paul williams has our holiday forecast. morning to you, paul. >> good morning, paul. >> thanks, kendis, reena. like the story line of a bad

movie you wish was over, storms continue to slam into the northwest part of the country. frequent storms continue to pound the northwest and pacific coast with heavy showers and flooding potential along i-5 and believe it or not, now we have feet of snow. yes, significant snow that's going to form in the northwest part of the country. now towards the east, southerly flow will set up for warm conditions with lots of rain. the good news is the rain will clear by christmas. but it's still going to be warm, not feeling like christmas but it still is. reena, kendis. >> that is a bad movie. we have a good movie in florida. good weather though for a bit of space travel history to be made at cape canaveral. spacex launched the falcon 9 rocket since the last one exploded in june. this launch successfully deployed 11 small communication satellites. in a major first, the first stage rocket flew back to the launch site and landed upright marking the first crucial step in being able to recycle these rockets. congratulations to the folks there. big step.

and two american astronauts made quick work of a repair job during an unplanned space walk outside the space station. scott kelly and timothy kopra took about a half hour to release the brake handles on a rail car and help guide it back into place. the car needed to be moved so a ship full of supplies could land at the space station tomorrow. >> nice work, guys. and if you thought "star wars" has permeated every aspect of civilization, you may be right, especially given this next story. here's a turtle hospital in north carolina caring for 20 new turtles some of which they named after "star wars" characters. >> there's one you see there inside that is darth vader. another one is yoda. both of them and the others just arrived from new england. >> they were found struggling in the cold water and sent south to warm up and continued growing. the hospital's hope is to send darth vader and yoda and the other turtles back into the ocean eventually.

chipotle restaurant chain. this morning health officials saying five more people became sick after eating at two of the mexican style restaurants. it's not known if these e. coli cases in north dakota, kansas and oklahoma are linked to a larger outbreak in october. in all almost 500 people have been sickened after eating at a chipotle in recent months. >> well, alarming news for anyone at work right now. a new study is underscoring the dangers of driving drowsy. harvard researchers found driving after working a nightshift can make you up to six times more likely to crash your car. in fact, researchers had to halt testing because nearly half the shift workers almost crashed even though they knew they were being watched. research shows a driver awake for 24 hours compares to a drunken driver with a ".10 blood
