campus at montgomery college. rain is widespread. rainfall has been moderate. .064 in lusby. look how warm the temperatures are without any sunshine. 60 in chevy chase. 61 in dale city. 60 degrees at gallaudet university. a couple of radar stops, the areas in yellow and orange show the heaviest downpours. those are self of fredericksburg, northwest of baltimore. we can change position and show you the north side of the beltway, the area with the heaviest rain, 270 split all the way to the 95 corridor. plenty of rain coming up through charles county and west of the metro area. just a rainy day, anyway you cut it. but temperatures comfortably in the 60's.

springfield and it continues down toward the occoquan and prince william parkway. south on 95, stafford county. delays continue on southbound 95 most of the way through stafford county and all the way down to route three in fredericksburg. now we head over to the beltway near tysons corner. this is the inner loop heading northbound on 495. very heavy just north of tysons corner. a little farther up on the american legion bridge. that backup is across the american legion bridge. here is the beltway in silver spring. a little heavy, particularly on the outer loop from new hampshire avenue around to silver spring. you.: thank according to jubilate, more than 100 million people will travel between now and january 3. of those, 91.3 million will be on the road. that is up 1% from last year.

we are told a flight is having landing gear issues and the flight has been circling the airport for a few hours. according to the abc affiliate in san francisco, they are reporting it is a southwest airlines plane that has been circling because of the landing gear problem. 7 was heading 254 to chicago. right now it is burning fuel before attempting to land. this is the information we are getting out of san francisco. here you can see another look from flight aware. you can see that neon green on your screen, i think that is the fly pattern it's been making. it has been circling the airport in oakland. we are trying to get more information for you right now as to what is going on. this is a southwest flight making its way either to or from the chicago area.

official trying to block the protest but a judge ruled that three organizers cannot demonstrate that the mall. the judge did say she could not wep others from attending are also following new developments from las vegas. the woman accused of intentionally driving onto a sidewalk and running over dozens of pedestrians is set to make her first court appearance today. killed onelloway person and injured nearly 40 others. she's been charged with one count of murder through the use of a deadly weapon. she is currently on suicide watch. still no word on a motive. closer to home, we are waiting on autopsy results after a body was found along the trail in montgomery county. police say the body was found last night in a creek off the northwest branch trail near the inner loop in silver spring. police are only calling it a death investigation but we plan to update you with more

information as it comes into the newsroom. today, the man accused in a deadly shooting at a holiday party is up for a bond review in montgomery county. facessco trujillo first-degree murder charges after allegedly opening fire at his own party, killing one person. it happened early monday morning on ridge road in damascus. the 35-year-old told police he acted in self-defense after being threatened by the victim. his bond hearing is set for 1:00 this afternoon. this couple is charged with attacking the wife and former boss. both are lawyers and she had been fired from a law firm. police say her husband forced their way into a couples home in mclean, tied them up, and stabbed them. when officers caught up with them, they say andrew was wearing nothing but an adult

diaper. news and the moro words is heating up between donald trump and hillary clinton. the presidential front-runners are firing back after comments made against each other. trump used vulgar terms to describe hillary clinton's loss to president obama in 2008. clinton responded by calling him a bully. >> you are looking at somebody that has had a lot of terrible thing said about me, so that is why it's important to stand up to bullies wherever they are. we should not let anyone bullied his way into the presidency. jummy: the latest poll has trumped still at the pop -- top of the gop pulls but 60% of women voters say they would be embarrassed to have trump as their commander in chief. coming up, up in flames. christmas tree dangers that you should know about this year. and there is still time but not a lot of it.

call. tree can go ups in flames in a matter of seconds, but artificial trees can be dangerous, too. jeannette reyes is in rockville where the fire department is offering a safety reminder. jeanette: there is a misconception that you have to have a real treat in order for there to be a fire danger, but it can happen with artificial trees. >> obviously, we have a major concern about rush trees, keeping them well hydrated. as they dry, they can go up. but as you can see, an artificial tree is a real danger as well. it's important to point out, it is not the actual tree, it is all the stuff around the tree. jeanette: you heard about the fire in annapolis. thats an artificial tree caused millions of dollars in damages. what should people know -- goodness, you can feel the heat radiating now.

what should people know if they have an artificial tree? >> inspect and maintain all of the lighting on your tree. that is the most dangerous part right now. if you have any candles or other ignition sources, keep them away. we like to have a barrier around. not near if you are the tv, come over and look. it started out very small but now it is smoking a lot. it is hard to breathe. this can happen so easily. >> it is the actual lights and the things that we are putting on and around the trees that pose the most danger to us. jeanette: thank you for this demonstration. you can see all the smoke around us. we are telling you this because it can really save lives. you don't want firefighters having to go into something like this unnecessarily. it is so simple to protect you and your family. hopefully you can share this

mall next. john: ok, keep moving. happy holidays. a lot of folks here inside kohl's have been doing their shopping. as a last week, 90% of shoppers said they still had some shopping to do. this store has been open 24/7 and will not be closing until christmas eve. jummy: they are finally close to closing. doug: this is the first time in decades that i have had everything done early. jummy: i am still waiting on one package that is supposed to arrive today. doug: with the weather like this, it can make it tough to get out. today is the rainiest day. slight chance of showers tomorrow, but much smaller chance. exterior one outside. looking at fairfax, va. not a pleasant day. 61 degrees right now.

check out the midday numbers. 61 at reagan national. 57 in frederick. through the afternoon, temperatures will continue to rise. lower 60's in the metro area. warmer farther to the south. all of this warm air coming our way because of the wind. plenty of rain on doppler radar. the heaviest rains showing of south of the maryland-pennsylvania line. moderate downpours in fredericksburg, across the river into charles county. that is moving northeast throughout the day. plenty of rain opportunity to the afternoon and evening as well as the rain stretches back to the southwest. a lot of rain to deal with for the remainder of the day. it will impact traffic. no delays on the east coast at the airport because of the rain, but perhaps because of the volume. another area of rain, another

storm system across lake michigan coming through chicago and wisconsin. those showers will continue. futurecast, looking at this afternoon, this big swath of rain continues. most of it should be eased of 81 and north of 95. showers will move offshore tomorrow. christmas eve, the rain will be fragmented. clearing skies farther north and west. a low chance for a shower through christmas eve and christmas day. warmig story is the temperatures tomorrow, in the 70's. today, low to mid 60's. we may see temperatures rise tonight. formally -- normally this time 60 is the high temperature in march.
