minnesota avenue police asking anyone with information who may have seen something or been in the area this morning to give police a call. reporting live, brianne carter, abc7 news. >> thanks. >> police working to identify a woman's body found on a pop already trail. the discovery came a few hours on the northwest branch trail on hyattsville a few hours ago. that is where stephen tschida joins us live with the latest on the case. >> a man jogging at 7:30 spotted a woman's body on the trail and called 911. we have video of what went down after the call went out. the investigators descended on the zane. they determined a woman's body on the trail who appears to be in her 20's. hispanic woman. we understand there were injuries about her upper body.

this section of the trail is popular with the bikers and the hikers and the commuters walking through the metro station. it didn't appear she had been sexual assaulted. it appeared she was killed here and her body dumped here. park police trying to keep people away. the investigation is underway. the victim did not have any identification on her. stephen tschida, abc7 news. kimberly: a tragic way to start the year. president obama returns to washington for the start of the final year in office. monday he is going to meet with the attorney general and as we explain the two will discuss new executive actions

manhunt is underway at tel aviv. a shooting at a bar leaves two dead. the gunman was smiling at the time he pulled the trigger. seven others were wounded. they have not said if it was a criminal or a terrorist act but it comes after the shooting and the stabbing attacks against the israelis in the past few months. jonathan: soldier and a worshiper at a mosque in southern france recovering tonight. they were hurt when a man tried to ram the building with the car. the driver was seriously wounded when the soldiers opened fire on him. elderly worshiper was hit by a stray bullet but is expected to recover. bench soldiers have been protecting the religious sites since the attacks in paris. kimberly: trains are running through two of the main train stations tonight. news broke last night in "abc7 news at 5:00" that the stations were evacuated due to concrete indications of a terror threat.

jonathan: there was a fire in the due buy hotel. it started with curtains on the 14th floor. they had to evacuate the 63-story building but it raced up the entire side of the structure. that is called the address hotel and it is blocks from the world's tallest building. kimberly: wow! kimberly: a difference between this friday and the last one. jonathan: this is like winter. >> a different year and a different year. change it around. it's feeling more like wintertime. take a look at what is going on outside the belfort furniture weather center. this is the camera. the skies are clearing.

resources police stephen reynolds left the safety of the cockpit last night to tend to the sail when he slipped overboard. the water not icy a cold 50 degrees. >> if you go in, the body's first response is to inhale. so that is how they get water in their lungs. that is when they start to go down. >> a female friend aboard the boat tells the rescuers she tries to help and loses sight of reynolds not wearing a flotation device. in the dark, his calls for help also soon go silent. today the natural resources police send a fire boat zigzag waters off the sandy point state park searching for a body in full view of members of a kite club on an outing. >> it's sad to think someone would be in this weather. i can't imagine how cold it is. >> they searched the sailboat this afternoon before towing it to inbound area across the

bay. reynolds once ran for office in carroll county. police say he is an experienced sailor who had been living on the boat his plan yesterday a winter weekend cruise. other boaters here say it is not unusual. this time of year you have to be careful. >> you don't have time. you don't get out you will be in trouble. >> with the sun setting the search on the water north of the bay bridge have been suspended for the day. we are told the natural resources pli will be on the water tomorrow morning. sandy point state park brad bell abc7 news. kimberly: 25-year-old man who plunged to his death in a falling elevator is being remembered as a hero tonight. listen to this story. teach hewitt brown was trying to escape a stalled elevator when it fell. he didn't even live in the billing. he was attending a new year's

center. 13.8 upses. -- ounces. all doing great. kimberly: beautiful. jonathan: the first baby of the year at the shady grove made a late entrance coming in the world 90 minutes in the start of 2016. kimberly: joce sterman has more on the motional gomry county mom who has her -- montgomery county mom who has her hands full. joce: started with a bang. she was expecting the baby but a week later. tiny heart to love and watch out for. bringing home a second baby is a challenge but this mom says she is in for it. now she has two boys.

>> i think my house is going to be upside down. hopefully big brother lucas when he is not stealing the spotlight with the pinchable cheeks will pimple in for help for baby nay thon. they also got a welcome basket from the hospital staff. this baby is not ready to commit to trying for another new year's baby anytime soon. >> maybe not. too much work already. kimberly: a great mom for just giving birth. good stuff. life appears to be getting better for a polar bear cub abandoned by her mother after birth. that is real. wow! the mother stopped caring for the cub when she was a week old so the staff decided to raise the cub themselves. great shot. they have been bottle feeding her and letting her snuggle

with a stuffed bear who looks almost exactly like her. the cub weighs over six bounds and doesn't have a name. the zoo staff are pleased with the progress but taking things day-by-day. jonathan: i got to imagine the crew are having so much fun being part of raising that little guy. kimberly: that is the age you cuddle and hold them. when they get to be two years old not so much. jonathan: coming up for us at "abc7 news at 5:00" -- some start a new year with the fitness goals. what about leadership goals? here are some of d.c. mayor muriel bowser's in a few minutes. >> but first the role bill cosby's wife will play in at least one lawsuit against him

sam: after the 5k run bowser finished the run with a smile. bowser held the first run on new year's last year one day before she was sworn in as mayor. how does she think she has done? >> i'm in excitement about d.c. and the region. the nation and the world is just growing. >> the mayor today was touting everything from the economic development which is still booming in the city to her expanded jobs program for young adults. >> we look back on the promises we made. we are delivering on them. starting with jobs for young people up to the age of 24. >> on the downside 2015 saw d.c. homicide rate soar 50% over the previous year. the mayor's program for dealing with it booed as she called for allow police to search home of parolees. mayor today. >> we get rid of illegal guns on the street. put officers in places. where we have the most

kimberly: cab in arlington will cost you a little more. the price per mile has gone up 6 cents in the first fairhike in four years. but the fairs in arlington are still among the lowest in the region and if you compare them to some other car riding companies when they triple the price, at the peak times cab rides can be a good deal. jonathan: no question. the roads could be full of cars this holiday weekend as people head back from get-aways. many will be crossing over the bridges. but as jeff barnes found the number of the u.s. bridges in need of repairs is growing at an alarming rate. millions of motorists use the

more than 610000 bridges in the united states. most drivers are unaware of the frightening state some of the spans are currently in above and below the structure. >> you have more traffic going over bridges today than you used to. >> they have taken a pounding through the years. experts say many u.s. bridges are danger dilapidated. >> a function of government is maintain infrastructure. the road and the bridges. >> lawmakers assessed the damage to the bridges from 2005-2014. the g.a.o. report found nearly 25% of the nation's bridges are considered deficient. 10% are considered structurally deficient. this means they are in poor condition. nearly 15% are considered functionally obsolete so that means the design is no longer up to date with the heavy traffic pattern. >> they are in poor condition in some way or another. so a lot of bridges. we are talking about 150

traffic watch tonight. i shouldn't too bad. >> you got it. a quiet new year's day. 95 here in virginia. a little heavy northbound. past the prince william parkway. heavy out of dale city. occoquan and route 23 for a little while. it's a minor delay. southbound of 123 nearby at times is heavy but for the most part clearing out for now. 295 in the district northbound past eastern avenue. looking pretty good coming toward the screen. if you stick to the baltimore-washington parkway this is the main concern for the evening. northbound possibly blocked for a crash at powder mill road. traffic will be diverted off the parkway. expect delays on 295 north of the beltway. that is the big concern while the beltway so far is unaffected. so that is going to be a really tough ride northbound. that is all i've got for now. send it back to kimberly. kimberly: thank you. tonight at 6:00 -- response to president expected executive action on
