dulles expo center will play host to the largest gun show on the east coast. 1,400 tables. 300 vendors. more than 15,000 people expected to come here. anwhile, just 20 miles east of here. president obama is expected to soon sign an executive order to change the way some people inside the building right now are doing business. going into his final year in office, president barack obama is motivated to finish unfinished business. president obama: 2016 i'm going to leave it all on the field. chris: this week he will meet with the top advisers to craft an executive order aimed at gun violence. >> unfortunately congress hasn't shown the courage to do so. that is why the president asked to look at what we can do administratively. chris: the order is expected to impart expand background checks to slow the so-called gun show loopholes. by law the gun dealers must do checks but private seller does not. gun shows increase the

likelihood of the private sales. >> it's not necessarily a gun show loophole. i may be a loophole in the gun transactions altogether. if you want to call at it loophole. chris: what would you call it? >> i call at it right to sell your personal property. chris: jerry cochran is one of virginia's largest gun dealers. in 35 years he has never sold a gun without a background check but he does not feel expanding background checks in this way would help stop fun violence or prevent shootings like those in sandy hook, san bernardino and charleston. >> it looks like we have unstable individuals that are taking actions. it is the slice effect. you take a slice, and a slice and eventually you have a loaf. you have everything. chris: the n.r.a. said president obama is doing what he always does when he doesn't get his way. he defies the american people with an executive order. live in chantilly, chris

papst, abc7 news. >> developing right now in hyattsville, a woman's body was found on a trail just about a hundred yards from the street. this is right along the northwest branch trail. she has not been identified. police say it looks like she was killed there or the body was left behind. police say there have been several incidents involving commuters who use the trails in the area. no potential suspect information has been released yet. jonathan: search efforts continue late in the afternoon on the chesapeake bay for a missing boater. maryland natural resources police say 48-year-old stephen reynolds flipped overboard while he was trying to tend to the sail on the 0-foot boat. a woman aboard the boat tried to help him and quickly lost sight of him and there has been no sight of him since. police are investigate a deadly hit-and-run on minnesota avenue southeast. the road has been reopened. this is the scene where the driver just took off after hitting and killing ian butts. there is no word on what might have called the crash. police have not passed along

information about who it is they are looking for or the type of car he is driving. kimberly: not far from minnesota avenue, in northwest, four people were hurt when a car jumped the curb. at 17 and l this morning. four people were on the sidewalk. taken to the hospital. everyone is expected to be okay. malik lloyd was arrested after that crash. he now faces hit-and-run as well as the d.u.i. charges. new developments tonight in a more than 4-year-old cold case. gas station clerk killed in october 2011. abc fighting back against crime investigator jennifer donelan has the big break in the case and why the suspect is not being charged as an adult. jennifer: 37-year-old mohammed abduselam was not supposed to be at work when he was killed. the family told the newspaper reporter after the 2011 murder he immigrated to the united states four years prior from

ethiopia. and said that particular october night he had stayed on at the gas station to help a coworker with a gas register. last night, the d.c. police reported they solved his murder. the person they say was holding the gun was a 14-year-old boy. >> i'm not surprised. jennifer: why not? >> because of the neighborhood. i lived around here for years. there has been a lot of good and bad. >> police say the 14-year-old walked in the gas station and wis to whipped an -- pistol whipped an employee. stole cash and fired the gun and the bullet struck abduselam, killing him. >> the investigators never stopped working. >> they credit the forensic evidence that led to the accused last night. he is now 18 years old but police say he will be charged as a juvenile because of the age at the time of his alleged deadly crime. >> that let us know the police is doing their job. >> the message should be

clear. jennifer: that is one less family left to wonder who killed their loved one. we learned 62% of the cases last year were closed. the chief of police expect more to close when the d.n.a. result are returned. i'm jennifer donelan, abc7 news. jonathan: attorneys for one of the officer charged in the death of freddie gray say he may have had back problems before he was arrested. caesar goodson's attorneys say that freddie gray complained of a bad back before the arrest. but the medical examiner found no evidence of a previous injury. goodson is next officer to go on trial in the case that begins january 11. coming up next at "abc7 news

jonathan: even after the sun came up, this hotel in dubai, you can still see it is still burning. pretty goodfire going there. it's an incredible story if you have not seen this. it is nearly an entire face of 1,000-foot tall building fully engulfed in flame last night. the fire raced up the side of the 60-plus story buildings. hours before new year's eve. they went on with the fireworks as planned around the city. you know that fewer than 20 people had to be taken to the hospital as they were rushing to evacuate. they were injured bud nobody was killed in the fire. kimberly: a nightmare. the towers are so tall. jonathan: massive. kimberly: the waters are receding in missouri and illinois along the mississippi. that is the good news. interstate 55, major highway

kimberly: we are learning more about a massive police response in silver spring. it was a drug deal gone bad. after a suspected deal a group started to chase the other. and at one point floyd of thisson pointed a gun at the other car in a chase that wound down new hampshire avenue. three other cars were hit. of thisson has been charge bud the montgomery -- thompson has been charged but montgomery county continue to work the case. shots fired in a bar at tel aviv. not sure what prompted the shooting. media reports said the shooter might have been israeli arab. two people were killed there. three others hurt. the gunman is still on the run. there were reports of police

going door to door. in search of him. jonathan: major shift in the polls. at one point dr. ben carson was at the top of the g.o.p. list. kimberly: in a matter of months the support he gained has seemingly disappeared. horace holmes reports there is a major shakeup in carson's campaign staff. horace: the new year starts with a big shakeup in the campaign of ben carson. >> i am looking at everything. no question. we are going to make sure we have the best possible organization. horace: yesterday, the shuffle began. out are three high-level staffers including campaign manager barry bennett and deputy campaign manager lisa cohen. move is more evidence of campaign in the crossroads. look at the number. in november he led now g.o.p. front-runner donald trump in a national poll 29 to 23%. latest poll number with the iwua caucus a month away show a drop. carson now with 10% support

among likely republican voters compared to trump's 39%. >> things are going well, we are at the top of the polls, nobody notices the deficiencies or the ineffectiveness in the organization. horace: this is the man at the center of the shakeup. carson long-time friend and adviser armstrong williams. williams admits he has no formal position in campaign but on the way out the door bennett took shots at williams. he told carson beknow the root of our problems. let's not pretend it's not armstrong williams. bennett complained that williams had too much influence over the candidate and williams dictated the changes. >> i did have a role in setting that up. this is the difference. if a business is not working you make a change. i pushed him to make that decision before 2016. it was his decision. horace: dr. carson chosen senior adviser ed brookover as
