with a fresh link it of snow out there. we don't expect to see anything like this in the washington area. and then things will slowly warm up, but it's a change in the pattern. 37 degrees at reagan national and 37 in leesburg. this may shape up to be the coldest day we have had since early march. a bonus thrown in at no extra charge driving the wind chills into the 20's. willnchester, temperatures climb quite a bit and temperatures falling well below the freezing point. chesapeakeockets of bay snow and relatively warm bay water temperatures. let's talk traffic and see how people are doing with jamie sullivan. reporter: we are starting to get

back to normal. we see a lot of normal congestion out there this afternoon which is normally not too much but you have some on the side streets and side roads. let's start with virginia -- in brown on 66, there was an earlier accident and that is gone. 95, in the 50's in both directions. let's switch gears and move to maryland. said, a little out there but not causing delays. have: at noon, d.c. police reopened several blocks in downtown d.c.. an overnight shooting shut down the street during the height of the rush-hour commute.

thousands of workers were forced to find a new way into their office buildings. reporter: this is one of the d.c.,t areas of downtown and it was shut down for hours to cars and pedestrians. police and investigators canvassed this area foot by foot all the way from k street to m street as they searched for evidence. the first 911 call came in at 2:50 this morning. when police showed up there was no shooting victim but later, a man suffering from gunshot wounds turned up three miles away. thece won't say why he left scene, but they say he suffered nonlife threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital. whohe sun came up, folks headed to work had to navigate the crime scene. officers turned people away for more than six hours. employees had to find alternate entrances to their building.

>> i guess i will have to find another way into the building. it's annoying. reporter: police say the investigation is a standard operating procedure when dealing with such a large crime scene. right now they have to figure out who did the shooting and what their motive might have been. it was a rocky start for commuters in alexandria this morning -- a water main break left duke street closed in both directions and has left some residents without water. workter: now is when the begins on this water main break that happened overnight. officials say fluctuating temperatures could be to blame. it was reported this morning down the street of another water main break on christmas eve. closed off alice portion of duke street until about 7:30 this morning when they opened up one lane in each

direction. the main is about eight inches and although the cause is under investigation, fluctuating temperatures are the likely culprit. the water will be turned off during repairs and about 100 customers will be impacted. >> that's a lot for her because she has to get out and go to virginia hospital. hopefully i will be able to get a shower when i get back in the house. reporter: this is the first of many water rained rakes we will see throughout the winter. it could take between six and eight hours and is likely to go into the evening rush hour. police have arrested two to thes in connection second homicide this year. james baskins and tyron taylor

are charged with first and m#dnd degree murder and other charges. a man's body was found early sunday morning in fort washington. the victim was identified as larry ellis junior. the investigation reveals the motive was likely robbery. firefighters are looking for hot spots and the cause of this house fire here. chopper seven, you see crews battling the flame this morning. they house is completely gone. the two people inside the home made it out safely. it is a site that has become too familiar to residents in one montgomery neighborhood. a fatal accident on 198. a 42-year-old died when his motorcycle hit a car as he was trying to pass. saydents in this area accidents like this happen twice a month as residents bead down this way to avoid the tollway. >> this is nothing new to find an accident in front of my
