the weekend in the district, the investigation into the first homicide of the year. the news at 11:00 starts right now. >> from abc 7 news, this is a breaking news alert. kimberly: the police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident on crain highway and pennsylvania avenue in upper marlboro. roz plater is there. what can you tell us? roz: not a lot of information about this tragedy. we are right along the side of 301 southbound, near the route for overpass. that is where the flashing lights and arrows are, the northbound lanes. that is where this tragedy happened. about an hour or so ago, a person was struck by a vehicle and killed. we do not have any more information on the person's age or gender. we also do not know how this happened. i can tell you there has been treacherous driving conditions because of the rain coming down

the complete outlook in just a minutes. kimberly: a crime alert in the district after a violent start to the weekend. five different shootings totaling eight victims, including d.c.'s first murder of the new year. diane cho explains. took: the first shooting place last night on martin luther king jr. avenue southeast, where the victim was shot but conscious and breathing when officers arrived. less than an hour later, the police were called to hays street northeast, where they found a 31-year-old unconscious for stop he was later pronounced dead at the area hospital. before 10:00, three juveniles and an adult were shot off east capitol street northeast. they suffered non-life-threatening injuries. at 11:30, another man was shot in southeast, conscious and breathing at the time. just after midnight, about a

block away from the homicide earlier that night, another man is found shot and still conscious. while responding to that scene, they found another man shot in the same area as the homicide same. >> it's sad. i'm sad to say him not surprised it's going on, but i would love to see it get better. diane: diane cho, abc 7 news. an suv rolls up the steps and smashes into a shop at union market. earlier,r was there and this is not the first time on this block. after ahappened just 3:00 in the afternoon. somehow, the driver of this mercedes suv lost control and smashed into the front door of a in coffee shop in the union market area. the manager next door her the crash and ran outside. >> there was a gentleman in the car. the airbag deployed.
