federal holiday honoring the civil rights leader. the cold didn't stop some folks for honoring martin luther king. >> dozen of students came to the southeast today to clean up the area around the anacostia river. this is just one group. wind chill in single digits. this is freezing out here but they are on a mission to clean up anacostia park. this time last year, they cleaned up more than 9,000 pounds of garbage. they want to beat that goal. jimmy is a student here. what brought you out here? >> well, thank you for having us. we are with hab talent for humanity. they have a service here for

jeff: the fight started before 2:00 a.m. 15 to 25 shots fired. one bullet coming through the business here. 75 yards away from the theater and the bullet traveled through this door, through this wall here, through this office way and this wall here and coming to the other side. coming to a stop here at the bookcase. it happened in the middle of the night. thankfully no one was here at the time. this stems from the incident at a theater across the street in downtown falls church. last night they hosted a show featuring the rapper scarface and a go-go band ironically advertised on facebook as show of love, peace, unity. at the end of the show the fight broke out in the theater and filled to the street where a hundred people were in the crowd. one man fired 15 to 20 shots in 2 crowd with the two officers there trying to

contain the situation. one man was shot in the shoulder and transferred to inova fairfax hospital with non-life threatening injuries. two others drove themselves to frederick, maryland. their injuries are also non-life threatening. the suspect is still on the lupus. >> the witnesses have not given a lot of detail. it makes it hard to find the police. >> can you guarantee anywhere is safe these days? i don't think so. >> the police are looking for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward with information. they are looking for he from the public. at 5:00, we speak with the owner of the business and the chilling words he shared with us after seeing this damage early this morning. until then, live in falls church, jeff goldberg, abc7

michelle: new developments in the search for 12 missing marines. searchers found life rafts that were on board the two helicopters that collided off the coast of hawaii last week. three of the life rafts have been recovered. some were inflated but they

are not sure how it happened. one of the missing marine is the brother of miss d.c. haely jardas. jonathan: well, willing across the country honoring a ohio police officer shot to death in the line of duty on sunday. it was just before midnight that investigators say officer thomas cottrell was found dead behind the municipality building 60 miles northeast of columbus. the department has said that it received a phone call about 11:30 sunday night from a woman saying her ex-boyfriend was looking to kill a police officer. that match was later arrested in connection with the killing. michelle: former taco bell executive charged with hitting his uber driver is suing the same driver. in november, you remember this video, right? benjamin golden charged with misdemeanor assault and was sued for $25,000 for striking his driver. golden is suing the driver for recording the altercation without his concept and posting it on youtube. he said the viral video caused

him emotional distress and cost him his job. jonathan: he is not the only uber driver with problems. in budapest 100 taxis are blocking highways and demanding yubeer and all the uber apps and businesses be banned from operating. drivers say it takes 50 to 60% of the customers but they are not suspected to the same regulations they are. the budapest mayor says they agree but they have no way to ban uber. michelle: we know a lot of folks have today off from work. but holiday traffic can be an issue. jamie: we are seeing a few problems. >> that is why you see the traffic in the seens. this beginning before route 32. heading south, 95 is a better

jonathan: the australian open kicks off today but it comes as we learn about a scandal rocking the world of tennis. there are reports that there is wide-spread match-fixing amongst the top ranked players. alison starling has a look at the explosive allegations. alison: this is big. first day of the australian open and most people would be talking about the matches themselves but instead everyone is talking about the match-fixes. and an alleged cover up by the tennis goffing body. b -- governsing body. there is a report claims 16 player ranked in the top 50 told the governing body they have intentionally thrown matches. this is including wimbledon.

the players suspected of throwing them were all allowed to continue competing. eight of them are scheduled to play in the 2016 australian open happening right now. >> this is a growing problem. it's huge. the tennis integrity unit is not getting to grips with it. >> absolutely reject any suggestion that evidence of match fixing has been suppressed for any reason or isn't thoroughly investigated. while the bbc and buzz feed report, they refer to events from ten years ago we will investigate any new information. we always do. alison: the documents allegedly show gambling syndicates in russia and italy profited on the fixed matches. officials with pro tennis insist they take it seriously and the tennis integrity unit follows up.

after 42 years that was her last assignment with us here at abc7. leon: we talked about this for a day. i do it innocent whoa will miss her more, us or those folks there. they're family. alison: sam! leon: how many years were you together? >> 1998. acknowledging her retirement but celebrating that will walk out happy and healthy. >> i have met amazing people. >> amazing memories along the way. >> share some with us. >> one of the best memories is the night that obama was elected. sam and i were on yew street. behind the circle people were jumping up and down.

a person said i have a new president and he is black. everyone is jumping around. jonathan: check this video out. a woman barely missed being hit by a speeding car that crashes through gas station window in australia.

they caught the whole thing on surveillance camera. and the driver plowed in missing the woman just walking to the counter at the time. the store workers dragged two people inside the car out to safety. police are looking into what caused the crash and whether alcohol may have been a factor. you see something like that and you think holy cow. matter of inches. michelle: glad she was two steps behind. she is okay. failed landing attempt for space-x. dramatic video shows unmanned rocket attempting to land upright on platform sunday. jonathan: so close. michelle: it carried a sat late into orbit but failed the secondary goal which was to land on floating platform. tough to do. jonathan: they will do it again and get it. something more sug analysisful for astronauts on the international space station, scott kelly tweeted out this weekend of the first flower grown in space.

jonathan: students at the u.s. naval academy might not be midshipmen for long. not in name. maryland bureau chief brad bell looks at the push to change that phrasing. brad: women now serve in almost out places in the military and they the ended the naval academy in 1976. is it time to stop calling them "midshipmen?" some think it matters and they ordered a review of the titles to remove "man" from the titles. which means midshipmen could become a rank of the past. >> it's fair to change it. we have not just men doing things but women as well. >> though it is a general term, it doesn't fit in t times of today. >> midshipmen are not allowed
