closing more than 100 stores. prices at those stores, there are falling prices cut by 75%. shoppers in some small towns are furious saying the retail giant forced homegrown businesses outs and now wal-mart is leaving, as well. here's abc's steve osunsami. >> reporter: in the tiny coastal town of oriental, north carolina, they feel cheated by walmart. >> they don't care about rural america. >> the town depended on us. >> reporter: renee ireland smith took us to what's left of her family's grocery store that was forced to close in october after 45 years, because it couldn't compete with walmart's everyday low prices. she learned just two weeks ago that the walmart here is closing, too. >> we were fine as a town before they got here. but now we're broken. >> reporter: her anger is shared across america. 269 stores are closing for business reasons. more than 100 of them in our nation's smallest communities. that now have no nearby grocery stores or pharmacies. in fairfield, alabama, city leaders wonder how they'll pay the bills.
