hurt after a stabbing at a northwest d.c. united club after midnight at the barcode. jeannette reyes explains what happened as d.c. police chief cathy lanier designs whether or not to take action against the club. jeannette: it is a parent a party ended abruptly after a man was stabbed to death at a popular d.c. bar and lounge, barcode. police tell me an investigation is underway and there are many unanswered questions. stabbed ato men were the popular barcode barred and lounge -- bar and lounge. shutting down the street for parts of morning rush-hour, then detectives focused on the inside of the club. no suspect or motive has been released. >> nothing like this happened. >> a lot of it is alcohol-related.

people get drunk and start pointing fingers at one another. jeannette: one thing that may help in this ongoing investigation is a surveillance camera, one of several in the area that may have captured what exactly happened in those moments leading up to the fatal stabbing. jeannette reyes, abc 7 news. jummy: cathy lanier has the power to shut down a nightclub for 72 hours after a violent crime and she has not indicated whether she will use that authority in this case. investigation underway into a fatal officer-involved shooting in northwest d.c. around 2:00 this morning on clay terrace. the officer shot a suspect after he pulled out a weapon following a fight and a chase. the weapon turned out to be a bb gun, and the officer was not hurt. the aim of the suspect was not released. leesburg police are investigating the first homicide of the year, and the location is a bit unusual.

someone ran inside the police station on plaza street to report a stabbing across the street, where a man died shortly after. so far police have not released any names in relation to this case. a water main break that snarled morning commutes will continue to bring headaches to drivers for hours to come. a water main burst rate last night near the intersection of university boulevard and piney branch road. john gonzalez has been there all morning. john: they are definitely moving quickly. they have had plenty of practice. in the last month, wssc has seen over 300 water main breaks. this the most recent one in the takoma park section of silver spring. that pipe that ruptured last night has been repaired. line, ite charged the means they are already running water through it.

no one lost water during this ordeal, and they are throwing the gravel into the whole to patch things up. the next project will be repaving, and that will be quite a challenge because university boulevard buckled in several spots so they are going to have to resurface the entire area. here is how the spokesperson for wssc describes the work. >> a lot of old material had to be cut out. they are cutting the pipe to fit, so a lot of work. cannot just put it in the hole and make it fit, we have to prep it so this is probably going to be an all-day affair. back your life, that is the section of pipe, a 12 inch pipe that ruptured last night. how old was this pipe? 1928, thetalled in year after the stock market crash.

official beginning of the race for the white house. why candidates are changing their focus in iowa. a big day in the investigation into last year's and trey -- amtrak derailment. doug: mid-sixties in fredericksburg, mid 40's in the mountains as the cold front takes its way west to east. temperatures will start to fall off as the rain for the cold front gets closer. it will leave rain through the area, clearing skies for tonight, back to sunshine tomorrow. look at the futurecast which will show the cold front coming through, the clear skies overnight and tomorrow, but keep an eye to the west because a bigger, more moisture laden cold front will be on the way. definitely spend more time in a minute talking about that and its implications.

>> abc 7 news at noon, on your side. jummy: a terrifying scene in san diego where a man was killed when a massive tree crashed his car. feetree was about eight wide and came down during severe weather yesterday. three other cars were damaged but no one was inside at the time. it took hours to clear away enough of the tree to remove the victim. the ntsb will release an update on last year's deadly amtrak crash in philadelphia. more than 2000 pages of documents will be made public. the train was heading from d.c. to new york when it crashed and

watch for scott's live reports from iowa. doug, you are saying they could get some snow? doug: it looks like in the southeastern part of the state, it will start with rain and then snow. overnight and through the day tomorrow, it will be a major storm, but they are hardy folks. they will get out and do their thing. we have rain coming this afternoon, but that staying -- same snow system that will bring snow to the plane states will bring rain on wednesday. a time lapse from woodbridge, virginia, we had some sunshine this morning but that has faded away ahead of cold front number one. the cloud cover now in prince william county is pretty widespread, with more clouds coming in ahead of the front. ,n the mid-60's in many areas 59 at reagan national, but

turning colder in cumberland, frostburg, because of the cold front. it is a quick moving cold front and there is some rain with it, but it is all rain. to warm even in the higher elevations for snow. we expect the rain to arrive in our area around 3:30, 4:00. it is part of a larger area of rain that stretches well southwest, so as the front stretches through we will have periods of rain. futurecast, our here's the rain at 4:30, and then south and east of town by 10:00 tonight. tomorrow, a nice day, cooler than today, but very pleasant. then comes the next run. sometimes cold fronts produce their own left and produce their own rain. sometimes when they are strong

enough, they start interacting with other forces, like this huge batch of moisture off the atlantic. have some flooding because of the run off and melting snow around the area. one computer estimate of how much rain we might have after midnight on thursday morning, just over an inch in some areas will have more than that. localized flooding certainly will be a possibility. here we go around on the merry-go-round of temperatures, 58 today with rain developing later. groundhog day tomorrow, 48 and partly cloudy. 64 with the front on wednesday, and thursday and friday it turns cooler but not colder. thursday through sunday look like a nice stretch of mild temperatures. ,y the time we hit the weekend except for the piles in the parking lots most of the snow will be gone from the metro area. it is just a guess. i cannot foresee the future

jummy: an incredible survival story near richmond, many are calling a miracle. fire engulfed this house in amelia county, trapping a blind man inside. the man called 911 when he's found his way to the back, out the door and too anxious neighbors. the house is likely a complete loss but no one was hurt. for jenna health officials have confirmed a second case -- virginia health officials have confirmed a second case of the zika virus. a student from wayman mary traveled to central america -- william & mary travel to central america over the winter break.
