a big night in the race for the white house. ted cruz in first for the republicans come at a dead heat between hillary clinton and bernie sanders. martin o'malley is reportedly suspending his campaign. sources say he did not register in the iowa caucuses. republican mike also suspending his campaign. alison: the latest numbers between clinton and sanders, right now it is clinton by less than 1%. on the republican side, ted cruz came out on top, barely edging out donald trump and marco rubio. jonathan: the results of the caucus do not shed light on the candidates, but it does give an indication of momentum. alison: scott thuman is in des moines. a big night. what can you tell us? scott: what i can tell you is you don't have to be a political

junkie to be excited by what we are seeing in iowa. it is as competitive as i can get. just the idea that hillary , it has hadmpaign all this time to build member structure, the ground game, just a half percent lead over bernie sanders suez had a huge rally. nobody could have predicted that six months ago. and then on the right, the republican side, ted cruz declared the winner. what is fascinating about this race it is what's happening in second and third place, donald trump a few points behind, but nipping at his heels is marco rubio. a lot of people predicted he would come in third place, but not with this small margin between he and donald trump. that has to be uncomfortable news for donald trump. we will listen to the republican candidates who have responded so

the abduction and murder about the 13-year-old girl from blacksburg. two virginia tech students appear in court for the death of nicole lovell. teenager wasthe connected to her killer through social media, but they are still coming through clues to figure out how the meet up turn to murder. roz plater has the latest. roz: investigators are not commenting about the nature of the relationship between the victim and suspect, but they say he used the relationship to abduct and murder her. investigators are working to piece together the hours leading up to the death, the murder of 13-year-old nicole lovell. medias active on social and her mother said she may have met her accused killer online, calling it, "an off-the-wall site i have never heard of." autopsy results have not been released, but her accused killer did not use a gun. 18-year-old david eisenhau
