in nashville, gusty winds threaten construction sites. and on the other side of the powerful storm system, bluster from a blizzard. >> it got bad quick. the roads were covered. snow was coming down pretty hard. >> reporter: whiteout conditions closing highways from colorado to the dakotas. businesses and schools closed in minnesota because of the dangerous conditions. trucks in the ditch and cars getting stuck. >> it was just obvious he wasn't familiar with driving in the deep snow and i knew it would be a little push. >> reporter: a foot of snow is expected in wisconsin, some areas getting 2 inches an hour. salt trucks in milwaukee and chicago preparing for the worst and from the roads to the skies. airline hubs from denver to chicago dealing with thousands of cancellations and delays. >> keep our fingers crossed and hope it's not delayed too much longer. >> reporter: before another storm system hits the west just days from now. michele franzen, abc news, new york. and before it's over, this unusual storm could impact up to 23 million americans. >> the system covers a broad

area and accuweather's paul williams is tracking it for us this morning. how is it looking? >> thanks, reena, kendis. snow-covered roads with the snow impacting a good portion of iowa going into wisconsin, will be a travel just disaster along i-35 and 80 till it gets the roads closed. that same storm on the warm side causing additional travel delays throughout the mississippi valley region and the ohio valley region because this is going to turn into yet another problem with the storm with 50 to 60-mile-per-hour gusts and heavy downpours. kendis, reena. >> turning now to our other top story. the race for 2016 and the battle for the white house now being fought in new hampshire after a stinging defeat to texas senator ted cruz, donald trump rallied supporters in the granite state and admitted that he may not have spent enough time in iowa and he even admitted that skipping the gop debate on fox

may have ever been a miss calculation. >> i think some people were disappointed i didn't go in the debate. if i had it to do again, i would have done the exact same thing. >> okay. >> well, florida senator marco rubio is also hitting the campaign trail in new hampshire, riding the crest of his unexpectedly strong third place showing in iowa. but ted cruz isn't wasting any time and he's already hopscotched his way down to south carolina. >> in the meantime, both democratic candidates are intensifying their efforts in new hampshire. bernie sanders with a double digit lead in the polls right there in his backyard is calling this a political revolution refusing to concede after hillary clinton as razor thin victory monday night, and clinton is sounding confident despite having won in iowa by just a fraction of a point. >> i feel really great being back in new hampshire after winning in iowa and having a chance to come here. >> well, still despite his double digit lead in the polls, the sanders campaign refusing to become overconfident with

sanders himself saying they're taking nothing for granted. the campaigns are now taking a look at what worked and what didn't in the iowa race. abc's jonathan karl looks at some of the voting trends. >> i loved you people. >> reporter: there are some real warning signs for donald trump. first, ted cruz has found a line of attack that stuck. >> donald trump, new york values. not ours. >> reporter: more than 40% of iowa voters said values was their most important issue. most of those voters went for cruz. only 5% went for trump. so, the new york values attack -- >> yeah. worked. >> here in iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, nevada, everyone knows what new york values are. >> reporter: and while trump is a billionaire businessman who famously promised -- >> i will be the greatest jobs president that god ever created. iowa republicans iowa republicans actually thought marco rubio would do a better job with the economy. and they bought rubio's argument that he has the best chance to get elected president.

♪ this land is your land ♪ >> reporter: in iowa, bernie sanders showed hillary clinton a whopping 84% went for sanders. just 14% for clinton. but part of clinton's message worked with voters. >> i am proud of the progress we've made under president obama. i stand with president obama. president obama. >> reporter: the clear majority of iowa democrats want to continue obama's policies. and the vast majority who care about electability voted for hillary clinton. >> but in the iowa results, also something of an ace in the hole for donald trump. nearly half of republican caucusgoers said they wanted an outsider, and of those 46% went for trump. so if you are a republican and you really want an outsider, chances are donald trump's your guy. jonathan karl, abc news, des moines. should be an interesting night on tuesday. moving on now to what will be a busy week for the poster child for pharmaceutical industry greed. talking about martin shkreli who is in court today as part of the securities fraud case against him. then it's a congressional

hearing tomorrow on drug price hikes at which he plans to plead the fifth. shkreli became famous last year when he hiked the price of a life saving drug by 4,000%. gloating that it was almost all for profit. searchers in the rocky mountains north of santa fe, new mexico still haven't found a man who went missing weeks ago while searching for a treasure chest. art dealer and author forrest fenn says he hid the chest in 2010. he says there's been $1 million and $3 million worth of gems rare coins and jewelry inside. fenn says when it comes to searching for the chest, he just wants people to enjoy the journey. >> i want to get the kids out of e game room and away from their little texting machines and out in the sunshine and the mountains and the trees. we're not doing that anymore. >> he's right. texting machines, i like that one. fenn also wants those looking for the chest to do so during

former district attorney bruce castor, explaining he did not believe there was a strong criminal case against the comedian back in 2004, citing red flags in the case including the fact that the accuser in the case first contacted lawyers, then waited a year after the alleged assault to go to police. so castor confirms a deal was made, an oral agreement that said cosby wouldn't be charged if he testified in a civil suit. but the current d.a. maintains because the deal was not in writ judge, that agreement is not binding. lawyer gloria allred in court in california for another civil case involving cosby calls the defense's arguments nonsense. >> i find it a bit ironic that mr. cosby would seek to exclude evidence that he, in fact, gave quaaludes to women when that was his testimony, does he want to exclude the truth?

>> reporter: it was last december, just days before the statute of limitations was set to expire the embattled comedian was charged with drugging and sexually assaulting former temple university employee andrea constand at his pennsylvania home. the prosecutors saying the charges stem from cosby's own deposition. cosby admitted he had a number of affairs, got quaaludes to give to women he wanted to have sex with and gave constand pills at his home. of the dozens of women accusing cosby of sexual assault, this is the only criminal case filed against him. that cosby has denied all the allegations and this hearing in the meantime resumes first thing later this morning. kendis and reena? >> elizabeth, thank you. should point out on the same day yesterday, some separate civil charges against cosby were dropped by the youngest person and most recent of his five dozen accusers. but no reason was given by either side. >> interesting. coming up, "e.r.'s" biggest
