two breaking stories right now, a pedestrian killed by a car in prince george's county. alison: but we start in northwest where there are injuries after a fire at the top of a building on m street. richard reeve is there now. rich, what can you tell us? richard: alison, d.c. fire and the atf are investigating to figure out what happened at the clare richard parkman's on m street. d.c. fire tweeted dramatic video shortly after the fire broke out this evening after 9:30 p.m. a lot of units were out here responding to this. it now appears the fire started on the top floor of this building. they managed to get it quickly under control, but one firefighter was injured. a lot of terrified residents inside. we spoke to one as she came out of the building. >> the alarm went off, there was

a lot of smoke, and we all came down. if it was not for me checking my mail box, i would not have known about the serious fire. richard: why do you say that? >> i never would have known. the bell rung, i smelled smoke and i came down the steps. i'm in a wheelchair. i cannot walk at all. thank god i made it down. richard: frightening moments. this is an assisted living facility, a lot of handicapped folks, elderly folks. the top floor window, that is where they believed the fire began. they are still looking for the cause. richard reeve, abc 7 news. leon: the other breaking news tonight come a pedestrian dead after being struck by a car in prince george's county. tom roussey is live along piscataway road in clinton with the investigation happening now. tom? tom: this is west of the center

of clinton, piscataway road behind me. the car was heading westbound. the pedestrian was out in the roadway, near where you are looking at the moment, and the pedestrian was hit. this is video of the van that hit the pedestrian. the shattered windshield, it was totally about 15 minutes ago. the driver stayed on scene and was cooperative with the police. it's too early to talk about charges. the police also do not know what the pedestrian was doing in the road when he was struck. it was an adult ma;e hit just a little -- it was an adult male hit just a little before 9:00 near's arrest high school, but it was not a student, -- near sorrento bilurratsville high school,

but it was not a student, it was an adult male. this happened right near piscataway road, which is shut down right now. live in clinton, prince george's county, tom roussey, abc 7 news. leon: also breaking right, d.c. police are on the scene where four people were shot, two of them juveniles on butler street southeast. the injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. stay with us on abc 7 and we will have breaking updates. alison: dangerous dog attacks in d.c. a secret service agent and his dog were injured by a loose pit bull, and tonight he is speaking out. richard reeve reports. >> two bites caused probably a dozen separate lacerations. richard: this secret service agent is still bandaged after an

attack by the neighbor's pit bull. his italian mastiff was also bitten multiple times. it happened during a walk. >> i stuck my hand out in the biting dog's mouth. richard: for 10 minutes it went on. >> i was punching it, screaming for help. >> there are a lot of kids now who cannot even play in their front yard because they are afraid of these dogs. richard: marjorie goldberg says a similar attack occurred last july. she wish shocked to learn that d.c. animal control officers don't have the right to seize a dog after a biting incident. >> you can go to somebody's house and arrest them for doing something violent, but -- it seems preposterous. >> this is not a pit bull

problem, this is a nurturing problem. richard: they say that rules need to be put in place to hold dog owners accountable. >> i have nightmares in broad daylight. alison: richard was not able to get hold of animal control tonight. officers told the community that dogs are considered property and under d.c. rules cannot be seized from my home. the city is working on regulations to give animal control officers more room to act. leon: the police have arrested a woman in connection with a deadly shooting in capitol heights over the weekend. she was arrested today. they say that she shot gilbert hall iii on addison road. the police say the motive may have been tied to drugs. alison: kicked in punched -- and punched on a metro train, last week we told you about random attacks on riders by groups of young people. tonight, metro's top cop faced

growing concerns and questions on how to ensure safety. one person asked what it would take to get officers on every metro platform. >> in a perfect world i would like a cop in every station, on every bus, but that is not reality. i tried to use the crime data and get the best bang for our buck. alison: metro has shifted officers to some areas on the red line that have had the most problems. leon: the rain has shifted out of year, but the fog is moving in. steve rudin is standing by with the outlook. steve: we are looking at conditions deteriorating in the stormwatch 7 forecast especially with dense fog north and west of town. the rain is long gone, shifting to the east, but visibility is practically nothing in frederick county, northern montgomery

bernie sanders in the iowa caucuses. now the focus is on new hampshire. both candidates spoke to voters in a town hall on cnn tonight to discuss national security and the economy. the new hampshire primary is tuesday. stay with abc seven for continuing coverage. leon: vincent gray is getting back into politics. he plans to run for the d.c. council, but we do not know for which seat yet. gray lost his bid for mayor when he was facing charges, but no charges have been filed. alison: tonight buzzard point where officials plan to build a new stadium for d.c. united. they hope to build a new vibrant community around the anacostia river site, but residents and southwest have concerns. they say there may be transportation and public safety implications with no guarantee it will reach its final goals.

the fog is to beginning to develop. the dense fault will continue as we head through the overnight. the temperatures right now, into the 50's. 54 degrees leesburg and reagan national 54 manassas. the temperatures out there right now will likely be the daytime highs tomorrow. that will happen a little after midnight, then the temperatures fall. behind the cold front, cooler air, 30's detroit and columbus 43 pittsburgh in state college. behind the frontal system, a lot cooler. that is what we will feel tomorrow afternoon. the heavy rain we had earlier moves off to the east. no problems there. it stays dry overnight, but we are on the lookout for dense fog, visibility practically nothing in frederick 1/8 of a mile ind making sense.
