during the morning hours, we were untrue a winter storm warning -- under a winter storm warning. that has been canceled. we have winter weather advisories across the area until late tonight. most of the accumulation has been to the north. the largest snow pile we could find was four inches in damascus. and we have a little snow moving now. temperatures are still well above freezing. it won't have any impact across the region. the areas in blue are where the snow is. this is the back edge. most of the precipitation is in

a very scattered area. there may be a light chance that later tonight we could have a band of snow moving in southern maryland. other than that, partly cloudy skies with a few flurries possible in the overnight hours. the next big weather story is this arctic blast that is coming our way. it will hang around for quite a while. the snow is causing slick spots in northern maryland. crews have been out all night treating the roads will into the morning hours. john gonzalez is monitoring the conditions in germantown. john: good afternoon. at times the snow has been heavy, but it has been coming down steady for the better part of eight hours. it started out as rain overnight. and wesitioned into snow

have been getting snow the rest of the morning. we have a few inches on the grassy areas here in germantown, maryland. the good news is it is well above freezing. we just have a lot of west pavement -- wet pavement. has gone up.re we are not seeing much of it sticking. let's talk to dave. he has been out all morning long. the pretreating really seems to help. >> absolutely. it is very effective. we can never anticipate what the temperature is going to be. john: how long will you be out? >> we will monitor the conditions throughout the day. we are expecting temperatures to drop later on. john: let's go over here and talk to mike. he was gassing up when we asked him to talk to us.

you have a car that obviously is not four-wheel-drive. have you had any problems? not lately. all the roads are pretty clear. the driveway is messy, but that's my problem. [laughter] john: that's really the headline. not a major snowstorm. a snow nuisance if you will. slushy. could get a bit the snow started falling fairly early this morning in loudoun county. schools canceled classes for the day. our team coverage continues with sam sweeney in leesburg. the snow has been falling since early this morning. it is a wet slushy snow causing a mess on the roadways. but it is perfect for making snowballs.

some places in the area only saw a rain. in loudoun county, it's the exact opposite. >> the roads are wet. sam: this morning, the snow was not sticking. loudoun county schools had already canceled for the day. by 6:00, it was a different story. >> if you are being careful it's fine. sam: trees were covered, but the roads remained mostly clear. >> overrated. it's not as bad as everyone thinks. than 1400 trucks across northern virginia started to treat the roads overnight. nobody wanted a repeat of the gridlock nightmare we had just before the big blizzard. >> i'm done with winter. i'm over it. sam: snow and rain will continue to fall throughout the area. crews will be out there treating the roads. slow down and give them some space. i'm sam sweeney. many other school

districts across the region are also closed or starting late because of the snow. you can get all those delays and cancellations sent to your cell phone. let's see how the roads are looking. angela foster is checking on the impact traffic is having. angela: you will have to deal with roads for a mostly. and the wintry mix that is coming down in some of the region. look out for slow-moving traffic. we are actually looking pretty good. on the beltway for the most part. we have just reopened lanes in pg county. on the outer loop, everything is moving at posted speed. a live look at fairfax county. no delays through the area of springfield and annandale.

we had bands of snow coming through sterling. route 7.ok at north of montgomery county is where we have the heavy snowfall. i-270, weavel into by are seeing snow as well. now to the final push in new hampshire. voters are lining up to cast their votes in the presidential primary. this is a critical moment in the race. there has been a scramble from one polling place to another in new hampshire. this morning, the candidates including hillary clinton were

out and about trying to influence those undecided voters. to keep working until the last vote is cast. >> so much crisscrossing, at one stop, clinton even ran into the husband of gop candidate carly fiorina. they put partisan differences aside for a picture. clinton is trailing bernie sanders. >> unbelievable. unbelievable. >> donald trump is also preparing for a victory party tonight. he posted a video on facebook to get out the vote, even mentioning tom brady. >> tom brady is a great friend of mine and he has said so many nice eggs about me and my ability to win. >> john kasich has already carried a small and historic precinct. >> they said i couldn't get in the race, i couldn't get to new hampshire. i hope they keep underestimating me. >> they have vowed to continue

on to upcoming contest. abc 7 is your vote 2016 authority. our national correspondent scott thuman is in new hampshire right now. he will have live reports on abc abc 7 newsat 4:00 -- at 4:00. naturally developing story. the death toll in that train collision in germany has risen to 9. at least 100 others were injured when the passenger trains crashed during the height of morning rush-hour about 40 miles south of munich. the german transport minister says the trains were on a curve and neither had time to brake before they hit head on. there is no word on why the safety system fail.

details anding new i did too disturbing allegations against a school volunteer in pg county. he is accused of not just possessing child pornography but producing it with county children. brad bell is live in glenarden. you spoke with the suspect's brother this morning. what did he have to say? wehe didn't have much, but will play that coming up for you in a little bit. this is a horrifying story and we still just don't know how far it's going to reach, just how many victims police will find. this is one of the locations, the glenarden community center. police say some of the abuse took place. this is where the man, deonte carraway, worked as a youth choir director. we also had an opportunity to speak by telephone with the mother of one of the victims. she says she never saw anything like this coming. she is horrified, certainly not ready to speak on camera.

this entire neighborhood is horrified. carraway sits in jail, police at this hour continue to conduct interviews with parents and children across glenarden. the fear that more young victims will be found. and now a first look at charging documents detailing the allegations police described as vile. in bathrooms at sylvania elementary school, carraway made cell phone videos of boys and girls ages nine and 10 engaging in sex acts with his voice audible directing the scenes. it is also alleged that carraway himself assaulted one boy. the crimes coming to light only because 19-year-old's uncle caught the child sending a nude image of himself to carraway the the kik messenger app.

we knock on his door today. a man who says he is carraway's brother answers. >> it's pretty horrifying. we're trying. >> we're going to stay on this story. we have questions for the school system. they have only released a statement saying they are cooperating with authorities. hear frompect to police about their ongoing efforts to find out if there are any more of it was. we will those reports coming up this afternoon on abc 7 news. on abc seven up news at new, it's one of the fastest growing epidemics in the u.s. new details on the white house plan to combat the heroine addiction crisis in the retailer they are teaming up with to do it. father of 13-year-old nicole lovell is speaking out about his daughter's death and what he knew about her relationships with older men.

jummy: the white house is teaming up with walgreens to tackle the prescription drug epidemic. they revealed a multistate plan to combat opioid abuse this morning. jeannette reyes is live with details. jeannette: this is a major announcement in the fight against drug overdose deaths. that number has been rising every year for the past several years. this is a two-part program led

by the white house and walgreens that helps to address the growing epidemic that is -- in a way that is practical and convenient. the prescription medication part of this is one of the bigger concerns. often leads to heroin use. they will install these kiosks at more than 500 stores and 39 states. they will be available 24 hours a day. the second part of the program will make the life-saving opioid naloxone available with a prescription. take a listen to what one official had to say about this. has been in many of our communities for a very long time and this issue hasn't been adequately addressed for a long time. we asked officials

oxone and whether it will lead to more deaths. they are partnering to make it more available to patients who need treatment. they are hoping other retailers will join in on this effort and e thousands of lives. jummy: muriel bowser is pushing forward with a plan to shut down d.c.'s largest homeless shelter. the plan is to replace d.c. general with small short-term housing facilities throughout the city. mayor bowser will detail the final stages of her plan at a mayor council meeting. last fall, the d.c. council voted to close d.c. general. this noon we are following new developments in a murder case.

the father of 13-year-old nicole lovell is speaking out for the first time since his daughter's death. says he tried to stop her from going down the road past. he told dr. phil that her family tried to step in after finding out she was talking to older men online. >> my daughter in ohio had dug around in her instagram account and she screen shotted me. showed sheaccount was chatting with a man named david. david eisenhower and natalie keepers are accused of plotting to murder the 13-year-old for weeks. now we will talk about the forecast. some of you woke up with rain. doug: the area that we thought would have the biggest impact was to the north. but it was in the low end of the

range of snow. the rest of the area, kind of a miserable day, but no impact. the national weather service has dropped the winter storm warning. many areas just west of the metro are not even under a winter weather advisory. the advisory areas are northeast and east of the district. snow oreas of light rain. we have a time lapse. the snow was really heavy and wet when it started this morning. it stuck to the camera lens. notice the roadways remain dry. are's because temperatures above freezing.

it is 35 degrees in damascus. county, 5.5 inches of snow. they hold first place in the snowfall derby. everybody else is under three inches. we could hit 40 degrees. we may see the sun try to burn through. doppler radar shows patches of snow. this is the back edge. it will eventually work its way through this afternoon. one thing we're going to watch it later tonight, maybe a final band of snow could move across southern maryland. with temperatures above freezing, it is a mess to look at, but everything should melt.
